| Your captain seems like an inspiring fellow indeed! Really good colour use; each "material" on the mini stands out, with good shading and highlight. Bravo! | |

| I noticed that you prime your models with black. Don't you think you would save a lot of time and paint if you prime them white? From white you can go both to dark, or straightly to a light color. If you prime black you have to paint areas white, or use many layers to get a lighter hue. I mean, obvious your result doesn't suffer from this, they look really nice I must say. | |

I think I´m just too much a creature of habit, I paint with black priming for over 10 years now and I did never try the white one.....Maybe I should Ok, here some more pics: Just to show that he´s really done now! ....And some group shots! With this, my starting warband is finally completed. But there´ll surely follow more models for them, I´m planning to do some swordsmen and a tilean marksmen in the future. Maybe this is gonna take some time, as I join my brother in building more terrain for our gaming group, this terrain will be posted of course! Looking forward to seeing more as the warband progresses. I completely agree with you about how inspiring and encouraging this place is!

| Glad to hear you'll be sticking around...you're a FINE addition to the Fellowship. AND, the War Band turned out TERRIFIC; the group shot in their natural environment REALLY show them off to advantage... BEAUTIFUL terrain. VERY WELL DONE! On the priming thingy: I start with a thin black base coat followed by a white drybrush. This gives the benefit of the black for shadows, the white enhances the highlights, AND the combination lets my tired old eye focus on all the little nuances. | |

| Hey there! It´s been a while since the last activity here.... One reason for that is, that my Reikländers got beaten up very often and very badly in our current campaign, so I never came over the starting size of my warband (sometimes I was even at just 8 members). But yesterday, I finally managed to steal enough wyrdstone from the walking dead to finance one swordman! Here´s a little WIP: Well, that was the first time I used white priming......and I´m not really satisfied yet. Ok, but what do you think? Any tipps for painting with white priming? For my next swordman, I might try out DeafNalas method then: | |

| Sorry to hear that Fortune has not smiled on your Band of Heroes...otherwise there would be a HORDE of COOL new minis to drool over. The new Lad turned out SUPER...the green & off-white looks GREAT! With priming/base coat it's a matter of the effect you're trying for. The black base yields muted colors & deep shadowing. White produces more vibrant shades, but requires more washes to deepen the shadowed ares. The drybrush of white over black has the strengths & weakness of both. The two factor that lead me to using the latter are that it fits with the effect I'm trying for AND it's easier for my tired old eyes to pick out the details. | |

| @Svenn: Thanks for the friendly comment and the PM, I completely forgot to do that You guys do an amazing job on tabletopgeeks.com! Edit: Ok, but I´m to dumb to get the link working in my signature.... @DeafNala: Yeah, my start in the campaign was indeed rather bad I think the only Hero that didn´t die so far is my captain, all the other´s died at least once Thanks for the advice with the priming. I´ll experiment with that a bit, but it seems like my skills with the black coat are absolutely ok for what I try to achieve on my miniatures. | |

| Finally some progress on the Swordman: I know, those are pretty bad shots, but at that time of the year, we don´t have so much daylight here in Gladbeck Hope you like him. For me he was quite challenging and not-at-all-fun to paint, because of the white priming.... C&C please! | |

| Thanks guys! The next one on my list is going to be this young gentleman: http://www.freebooterminiatures.de/en/catalog/30Gonna use him as a duelist I guess.... The other mini that is still waiting for it´s paint is the swordman you see some posts above. And both will be painted with black priming!! | |

| Hey! As I´m sitting in front of my duelist model right now......I think I´m gonna need some help How do you guys make a black cloak look realistic? I usually mix Chaos Black and Codex Grey for 3-4 different layers, but I got the impression that this won´t be enough on such a big, irregular surface as the cloak has. Anybody got some advice? | |

| HA! Don't got much advice with cloaks/capes; however, if you want a cool look, try and get some vinyl and pulling off the fabric backing makes a great cloak/coat/cape/robe. Trust me; I do this all the time. Just remember not to lay in on too thick otherwise it looks shiny. | |

| Since I don't use G.W. colors, I'm always hesitant to offer painting tips, but, since no one else has chimed in yet, here goes: my base coat is black with a white dry brush; this might effect the final result. For black, I do a dry brush of charcoal (brownish dark gray) followed by a black wash (thinned black paint] & re-highlight with the charcoal while the black is still wet & again once dry. The result is a nice dusty black. The colors I use are normally Americana craft paints. | |

| Thx guys! I tried a few possibilities now and this is the result I liked the most: As you can obiously see, everything is WIP except to the cloak. The colour scheme I used was ~ like this: Black priming 3/4 Chaos Black, 1/4 Codex Grey 1/2 Chaos Black, 1/2 Codex Grey Babac Black Wash all over the cloak 3/4 Codex Grey, 1/4 Chaos Black Babac Black Wash all over the coat I tried out the Gw washes as you can see Like the result so far, gives the whole thing a look of black leather because of the slight glaze.... How do you guys like it? | |
