| A very nice warband! The marksman with the blunderbuss could have a slightly flashier outfit but apart from that i like them very much. From a gameplay perspective i have to say that you have chosen too many 2H weapons for my liking, i really don´t like to strike last each and every turn. But do look nice and menacing . | |

| Thanks too all of you for the kind words. I hope to have my Elf Ranger completed sometime this week. He is coming along nicely and I am eager to show him off.
@ Horatius: My choice of models was intentional. Young recruits within the Averlander ranks are disallowed from wearing the flamboyant uniforms worn by the veterans. Hence, both my youngblood and marksman wear more simple attire. Moreover, my Bergjaegers, not being professional soldiers, but instead rangers and woodsmen, will also forgo the frill for more practical garb.
My choice of 2H weapons is informed by two factors. First and foremost, in order to encourage a wider variety of weapon choices, the rules of the series of campaigns I have been playing in have been changed. One of those changes is to allow 2H weapons to strike first on the charge -as in WFB. Second, it has been my experience that the high strength of these weapons becomes very useful in the latter stages of the campaign when fighting against armored and T4+ models becomes more common. | |

| It is my gaming group's opinion that it is too easy to inflict a critical hit -particularly when a missile weapon may ricochet and hit 2+ targets. Consequently, according to our house rules when a player rolls a 6 to wound the critical hit must be confirmed by a second die roll. The target number for the second die roll is what the attacker would need in that instance to wound his target. If the target number is rolled, the wound inflicts a critical hit. If the target number is not rolled, the hit wounds normally. Thus any weapon that increases the strength of the attacker is more likely to inflict a critical hit and is therefore more desirable. Also, since the current rules makes 2 hand weapons the optimum CC weapon combination, in order to encourage players to use different CC weapons, our house rules penalize weapons in the "off hand" with a -1 to hit penalty. To encourage the hand weapon and shield combination, a model armed with a hand weapon and shield receives a +2 armor save bonus from CC attacks instead of the normal +1 for the shield alone -again like WFB. Lastly, as mentioned above, great weapons strike first when the model wielding the weapon charges -as per WFB. Admittedly, these rules do not make the halberd that much more desirable than it is in the core rules, but it looks cool, so I am going to include at least a couple in my warband. | |

| I don't support allowing two handed weapons to strike first on a charge because it makes flails relatively weaker. I've actually found flails to be a strong counter for 2handers because they strike first and if you manage to hit you will have a very strong chance to wound and deny a counter attack. | The Elf Ranger is done. Of course, like all of my models, I am waiting to give it a proper base until after the rest of my warband has been painted. My first instinct was to use or at least include colors that would tie this model in with the Averlander warband, but I decided that since I may use this model in one of my other warbands as well, the tie-in is not necessary. I reasoned that greys and browns would provide a ranger the best camouflage in the City of the Damned and thus represent the ranger's elven cloak. Moreover, since the color scheme does not match that of either your typical High Elf or Wood Elf, it emphasizes his status as an outcast or wanderer. | |

In my Blood Angels thread on Bolter and Chainsword my painting style was described as "cartoon-like"... ...So of course, I could not resist responding in the following manner:

| Those are really sweet minis. I have always wanted to make an Averland Warband, rules wise they are probably my favorite of the mercenary list. Your warband is an excellent source of inspiration (in the event I ever build an Averland warband) | |

| Now that I have painted all of my henchmen, time to work on my heroes. Next on the painting bench, two Bergjaegers. As I mentioned above, since these guys are not soldiers, they do not wear flamboyant uniforms. And while the dominant colors on these models will be various shades of brown, unlike the Elf Ranger, I will use some yellow and black to tie them in with the rest of the warband. | |
