| Von Kurst is right though cannon are the best option in naval games as bolt throwers just don't have the required punch to hurt an enemy ship. Frog would be voluntarily throwing the game if he didn't use them with the rules we use (as they are free for a start!)
I use my deck cannon as "counts as Rock Lobbers" but my ship is still armed with cannon broadsides. I like the idea of "Elfing-up" the cannon, I'm sure you'll be able to come up with some pretty cool looking evil Dark Elven magical weapons that work like cannon Tim!

| Hey guys! and awesome work frog! In that book Bloodstorm: A tale of Malus Darkblade, dark elves corsairs used an special type of bolts for his naval bolt throwers called "Dragon's breath". It's like an explosive bolt with magic warp fire (yes with wyrdstone). I imagine something like this: It could be an idea to 'count as' cannon more druchii ^^ | |

| OH! OH! how about dragonheaded bolt throwers that belch fire?! (now thats a long sentance!) The dragonbreathheartballbolter from mantic is kinda enough for count-as-cannon and it would stop all of us fluff monkeys b*tching. (and by the look of their two piece elves and skellies they look cheap...sorry anyone from mantik if you are google botting us right now.) on the upside they seem to include wardogs with their elves 0_o (even if this isn't news well you know , ' if its news to me..') | |

| Mantic Miniatures have been around for a couple of months now.
Actually as an introductory promotion, at TMP they made an offer hard to resist a couple of weeks ago: you just had to send them an e-mail with your name and address and they send you a FREE SPRUE with 2 elves, anywere in the world. Yep, FREE (including S&H).
I got mine and must say they are well detailed, but VERY THIN (they say elves are supposed to be frail, so it's their concept).
The miniatures are very well sculpted and about the right height to GW minis.
And yes, THEY ARE CHEAP.
I may preorder some of their skellies too.
Best wishes. | |

| It looks really neat, though you should replace the cannon for some bolt-throwers, more elfish somehow. | |

| So I thought it was time for an update! Ive been working hard on many little things across the boat, lots of little details Much sadly you cant see till its painted. But i've added several models to give you an idea of what its going to be like. (I can fit 2 heroes, 20 Crossbow men & 20 Corsairs on-board. about 1500pts of ship n Crew) Now on the topic of Cannons, i know its been much the sadness of many people that ive decided to have Cannons in the first place. But i hope you like what ive done with them, ive still got two more to go, smaller lighter ones. And yes i have a repeater cross-bolt thrower as any dark elf ship should have! The Back view: The Cannons have Cold one heads for the Malus Darkblade model. You can see the most detail of the boat: My fav photo: (i like the shadowing) | |

| Wow that's a really nice ship, I can't wait to see it finished. Now you guys got me wanting to build ships when I can barely scrape up the time to work on Mordheim ruins.
What material do you plan on using for your sails?

What material do you plan on using for your sails? the same thing happened to me, i just had to build one! the plan is that the sails will be made from normal "purple" Cloth. but with a wire mesh to give it a dragon wing shape, and coated in PVA. The sails are also removable, (ive not glued the cross/top beams in)

| Fantastic looking ship, mate - cannons or otherwise. This whole thread has been a fantastic tutorial on how to make a boat from scratch and you can be sure I'll be checking back on it when the time comes to make my own High Elf, Viking inspired Dragonships. :3 | |

| So i though it was time for an update on how im getting on! Ive not done much work on the boat its self, but lots of work on the sails! What are they made of?A) I started with a wire frame, to get the "dragon wing" outline. B) the fabric is made out of fabric snifter! C) I then used purple silk paint, to get it to the colour it is! D) Ive then that to sow it on! man that took ages!Next: E) i plan to use "Spray Glue" to get it to hold the shape. F) then i may cut the wire away( the cross bit that looks poo!) Well here is how it went: Down sideSadly it seems that the sails are to low. so im not sure how to work out how to get them men standing on deck and to be able to see! but im sure i will work something out! | |

| I've never seen hand stitched sails on a model boat before... although i haven't really looked at a lot of model boats! Regardless, it is looking great! | |
