Subject: The Battle of Vercuso Bay - Naval Battle Report Thu 10 Dec 2009 - 20:06
The Battle of Vercuso Bay
The green seas pitched violently around as two fleets jockeyed for position; orders were variously shouted, signaled and transmitted by the Orcish boot-applied-to-backside method and the battle lines were drawn.
The Naval Alliance fleet:
Le Sanglier
Ironprow II
The Belly
The Pirate Fleet:
Da Jaw
Da Hogwasha and the red cutter
The Inferno
Deployment:
Initial moves:
The Naval Alliance fail to follow their own plan and get a little tangled up!
The Pirates form up in Line Abeam.
First Broadside!
Chaos reigns, much shouting, cursing and swearing in Bretonnian and Reiklander ensues...
The Royal Air Force sail through the air and hide, majestically, behind The Belly.
The red cutter sneaks out...
...and the Belly heads right for them!
but they get a broadside from The Hogwasha!
The Inferno's Vampire captain and Necromancer first mate fill the wrecked Scythe of Ra with a "fresh" Zombie Crew!
Da Jaw starts a long chase of Ironprow II, round the rugged rocks...
The fleets come into pistol-shot and all hell breaks loose!
Da Jaw tries a precarious ram in the teeth of the rocks!
But Ironprow II escapes
The Belly grinds ever closer to Hogwasha and the cry of "Prepare to Repel Boarders!" goes out from the Orc ship's quarter deck
Boarders are repelled! The Ogres are beaten back by the ferocity of Kap'n Mogrum Da Butcha:
The Pegasus Knights attack the Inferno
A second ram is attempted by Da Jaw in the teeth of hellish gunfire!
The Zombie-crewed Scythe follows suit but the single zombie that gets aboard Le Sanglier is quickly dealt-with
Hogwasha takes the opportunity to re-crew the red cutter - this is a mistake!
The bow-fire reply for the insult is swift and brutal
The Ogres clamber back aboard the uncontested Belly and once more attack the depleted crew of Hogwasha
The red cutter's new crew is slaughtered by the Pegasus Knights
While the deck of Da Jaw is swept clear by the murderously efficient broadsides of Ironprow II
The Pirate fleet limp away and concede the engagement to the Naval Alliance - One ship is fair shape but two ships and a cutter almost devoid of crew, two ships leaking badly and on the verge of sinking, verses the Le Sanglier's very strong crew and two still-sturdy ships and of course the Hogwasha captured.
Huzzah for the Naval Alliance!!

That's lulling them Land Lubbers into a false sense of security, Adm'rul! WELL DONE! COOL PHOTOS!AND some new ships to Ogle. I hadn't seen Da Jaws, the Inferno, Irornprow II or Belly before...ELEGANT ships & an appropriately sturdy looking Barge.

The Belly reminds me of a Higgin's boat. GREAT STUFF!
Hehehe - she was designed as a landing craft, so that works! It was being borrowed by Tim as he hadn't started his Dark Elf ship yet but the ramp became very effective in boarding actions, so we may see a bit more of it in our future games.

AND a trip down Memory Lane: when as a Lad I became hooked on war games, THE scale was 54mm minis; SO...about the only place large enough for a game was the floor. If I had to do that now, I'd be crippled for a week.
My steam driven Goblin vessel, The Wicked Wanda, has a spiked boarding ramp that, when lowered, releases the Squigs that are stored/imprisoned in the fo'castle...the HEIGHT of Goblin-tech.
