Before "my first serious scenery making adventure" (The Arena), I already had in mind to build some kind of large/huge building with 3 or 4 flours and a lot of manoeuvrability inside. Enter: The City Guards Bastion (or whatever works for you My 2nd serious scenery adventure: The City Guards Bastion Icon_tongue ). Like the Arena I just let the polystyrene packaging inspire me and I started working from there. Since I plan on adding a few floors I'll have to make and paint each level consecutively. I just made the first ground floor and basecoated it. A few pictures (any form of critisism is welcome: I want to learn after all My 2nd serious scenery adventure: The City Guards Bastion Icon_bounce ):

VERY NICE! You seem to have stumbled on a TREASURE TROVE of cool & usable packing foam. It REALLY rings true as a barracks. EXCELLENT WIP...if I come up with anything to critique, I'll let you know.My 2nd serious scenery adventure: The City Guards Bastion 544694

Nice! I really like the inclusion of stables, since you rarely see that modeled.

Is there going to be an upper story on the stables? Does the tower detach?
A walkway behind those arches would be nice. Otherwise that side of the building has less defensive use. Actually a little tower in the corner by the main entrance would be very useful...

I like the attention to detail with things like the sword in the rubble.
will you completly finish and paint this floor before moving onto the next or will you get all the floors made and undercoated then paint them all at once?

It's as if you read my mind! My 2nd serious scenery adventure: The City Guards Bastion Drunken_smilie I indeed added a walkway and tower (not finished yet though, as is obvious from the pictures...). There will be an extra level and an attic on top of the already existent level above the stables. The tower will be on the same base, and will be connected to the main building with twe bridges at two different levels. The opposite side will only have one extra level, probably...

Like you see, I painted most of the ground floor, since it would be harder afterwards. Will to the final things and some "repair painting" later. I think I'll have another paint stage soon, and then build the last things on top, and have a third and final painting session at the end.

I find it amazing how much hours one can spend on making scenery... My 2nd serious scenery adventure: The City Guards Bastion Affraid

I love the different textures on the floors, gives it a much less uniform more "real" feel.

Far more patience than me with the brick work too.

I like the horse stables on the bottom. You should put in a "house rule" if a model is walking around in the stables on a roll of a 1 they stepped in some "horse manure" and slipped and fell. My 2nd serious scenery adventure: The City Guards Bastion Icon_eek

My plan exactly : )

Da Bank wrote:

LOL! Good idea! : p I'd add an extra rule: if you roll a '1', you have to make an initiative test or you fall down (i.e. knicked down) when you fail it : )

meerkat wrote:

Well... Durable enought to serve as a fighting ground for plastic miniature... : )
No, I don't know... It's OK I guess. Most of the polystirene is reinforced wih toothpicks.

DeafNala wrote:

Indeed... :'( ...

Thanks for are the positive reactions! Although critisism is still more then welcome
Hopefully the next update will be the final result : )

edit: picture under artificial light, so lightening is not to good...

Looks quality mate, can't wait to see the 'pond' finished.

With the different levels and detail is almost an entire Mordheim table in one piece of scenery!

Hope you have fun playing on it, I would.

VERY, VERY NICE PROGRESS! This is turning into something SPECTACULAR! There's just TOO MANY cool little details to comment on them all. I had my doubt as to how well the hanging tower would turn out, but it looks GREAT. The shots through the arched portal are a REALLY nice touch to the presentation. EXCELLENTLY DONE! My 2nd serious scenery adventure: The City Guards Bastion 544694

On the Horse Plop Rule: you could have the now aromatic hero's opponents suffer a -1 To Hit due the fragrance...& the flies.

If you want to add YET MORE things to do to the project, you might give the place some eerie looking faces coming out of the walls like this:

Thanks, Trulsa. The Faces have become a regular thing on my Mordheim buildings for a touch of Haunted House feel. They're made out of plumber's epoxy [similar to Milliput]. The rest of the building, which I made for matt, can be seen here: https://boringmordheimforum.forumieren.com/scenery-f13/building-by-deafnala-t1237.htm .
