It looks awesome Very Happy
There is just one little thing I would have done different ^^"
That is the space between the strips on the side - I would have made that space smaller i.e. have made the strips sitting closer to one another Smile

Cool idea using a spool. Gotta try that out myself.
Made a barrel and it turned out pretty okay I guess. And it sure beats the hell out of spewing money at GW for pre-made barrels.

Maikcir you're right for the space. I hope the space will be a little hide with painting.

The space between the staves will vanish when the barrel is painted. But when not, fill in some PVA-glue with an injection.

The idea with the spool is very nice! I think it will cut down the buildingtime about 5 minutes. I use little round pieces of wooden sticks with a diameter about 15-20 mm. You can get them in every "doityourself"store. I use different sices because I want different dimensions of barrels.

very good tutorial! Very Happy

i suppose you could do open casks as water butts too.

just paint the top like water, add a drain pipe and add PVA glue to give a liquid look.

larger ones could even be water towers on a wooden frame.

how about using wine corks? you could just draw the lines into the cork and add the metal straps?

When painted, you can still see most of the "crumbly parts" that cork is made of, through the paint..

Oh man I was reading this at first as if that ruler was in inches and I was thinking "that is a huge barrel." Hats off to the metric system.

One in situation behind the dwarf and one on the middle of the screen but a little in the dark :

I think you can make a better result but it's just right for table top.

A nice little tutorial but looking at this i remembered one thing i´ve seen sometimes long ago, but may be it will help to close the gap between the staves. I´ve tryed it and as you can see it works really good.
Paper-Barrel: How2do in five easy steps - Page 2 Cimg1017
I just cut off a little bit at the ends of the staves.
Paper-Barrel: How2do in five easy steps - Page 2 Cimg1126
As you can see the gap is smaller than without it.
