| So here we go: 1st: Cut out a 15x2 cm piece of thin cardboard. Put some glue on one side and roll it. (I use a roll out of many layers because it's more stable and will remain in form when pressing the staves on it) Then you will get something that looks like this: 2nd: Next take a stripe of Cardboard about 5-7 mm broad and wrap it around your roll 2 or 3 times. (the more layers you take, the merrier roundly your barrel will be) 3rd: Now it's time for the heads of the barrel. Use the Roll as model and draw two circles on the cardboard. Cut them out and glue them on both sides of your Barrel. 4th: Glue the Staves one by one on your Roll. (Cut one long cardboard-stripe, about 3 mm broad. Put the Glue on the roll, one point on each end and one in the middle. Then put the stripe on it. At last cut off the stripe. Thats how I think it's the easyes way to make the staves) Half the Staves ready: Ready for the last few steps: 5th: At last you cut a very slender stripe for the barrel hoops and stick it around the barrel. For the plugs cut off two tiny pieces of a toothpick and glue them on the barrel. ( don't forget that the plug on the head ist on the oposed side of the plug on the staves) Ready to get painted...it has taken about 45 minutes. I hope this tutorial is useable for some of you. When someone has ideas to produce a barrel faster or give it a better look, I would be pleased for some tips. | |

| Thanks for the tutorial!! I made my first barrel when I saw it in your earlier post and made it a bit big so I've decided to make it more of a cask. Now that I have dimensions, I will try again. | |

| You can make barrels in various dimensions, big ones and small ones. In my chieldhood I saw barrels that was about 3 or 4 meters in diameter. They where used in a big winery. you can also make barrels with oval heads...so dont worry about the sice of your barrels.... I think one of my next projects will be a winery or a brewery with a lot of barrels... | |

| When I finished the first one, the first thing that came to mind was a wine cask. Thanks again, these are a great addition to my scenery shelf and Mordheim table. | |

| That works & looks GREAT! I had some PVC I used for the core, which cut down the fabrication time a little. You're in line for the DeafNala Improv Award.

| Thanks @ all.
@Deaf: what is PCV?
Has anyone an idea how to build open or damaged barrels? I was thinking about some broken ones for my winery project...

@Deaf: what is PCV? PVC is that white plastic like pipe plumbers use nowadays. I had some short lengths of 1/4" kicking around. I REFUSE to waste ANYTHING.

| Oh, I see... it was ounly a little bit disturbing because you wrote PCV in your last comment. You're right, I'm hoarding every little pice of things that might be usefull. And ervery time I decide to throw something away, it will take only a few days and I regret my foolish deed. The ?PVC-pipe? is a very good idea, i will try it the next time when making a barrel. | |

| Plastic pipes are maybe the best solution for broken barrels. Barrels made this way will be more durable than the papper ones. If you want you can make that the vine is out of the barel by using melted candle, and then paint it red. But you have to be extra careful with melted candles (they can make a big mess!) | |

| I think it can be useful creating this barrels with paper, but maybe if you make a mold later for creating a nice copy of green stuff or so | |

| Very nice tutorial!
Yes, it should be PVC, not PCV. Poly Vinyl Chloride.

| Wich glue do you use? It looks like PVA-glue..? I prefere all-purpose-glue like UHU-Alleskleber, because it drys not to fast so you can adjust the pieces if necessary. And don't use too much glue. The less you use the better. | |

| Second test (the barrel on the middle). I think it looks better. I use coil of yarn Sewing (i don't know if it's the good word in English : "bobine de fil à coudre"). You can see it on the right. | |
