| These are a couple of the better places I part with my bucks: http://www.thewarstore.com/ : this is a very well stocked, somewhate bizzare store. It's predominately a mail order outfit with a flat rate shipping charge [USA] of $4.95 on all orders. Neal, the owner, runs it out of the rear half of his parents' green house; it's like a minis warehouse. Check out the Celebrities Reccommendations for a good chuckle. Highly reccommended. http://www.armorcast.com/ :these folks have a nice selection of good quality, reasonably priced resin scenery, & some nice minis both in resin & metal. Their forum is heavily scenery oriented and populated by some very nice folks. Another source of inspiraion; recommended. http://www.wyrd-games.net/ :another favorite hangout for moi, these folks have an unusal line of kind of steam punky, kind of western, totally unique minis. Their forum is super cool, very international, very friendly, & uber helpful. They run on-line painting competitions that attract folks with quite a wide variety of talents AND minis from any manufacturer you fancy are welcome to both the forum & competitions unlike a certain unnamed Mega Manufacturer of dubious business ethics. Very highly recommended, very. I'll add a few more when & if the fog lifts from my ancient semifunctional old mind.

| I remembered a couple of more: Micro-Mark carries a mind boggling variety of tools specifically geared for modelers along with quite a variety of scenery & scratch modeling items. They are not he most inexpensive of shops, although their sales are usually worth the wait, & they carry thing that are difficult to impossible to find elsewhere. Recommended http://www.micromark.comWalthers is The source of all things for model railroads; a truly fantastic source of scenery, * scratch building supplies. Highly recommended. http://www.walthers.com The Hot Wire Foam Factory as the name suggests manufacture & sell foam cutting/sculpting tools, supplies useful in foam work, video instruction, etc.. Their gallery is a fine source of inspiration. Recommended. http://www.hotwirefoamfactory.com/customer/home.phpThere now, that should keep you impoverished for awhile.

| I'm hoping that this is the place for this one, but if it's not, feel free to move it, Tom. I have a question about the little leaves that I see on some of the excellent pieces of terrain in the gallery. I'd love to track them down, both for basing models, and for adding that little something to terrain pieces. However, I just can't seem to find them - and I need to find an American supplier, which may or may not complicate things. Thanks in advance for any help on this one! | |

HEY Hawkeye, I've been searching around for the stuff for you. The closest I came was Cool Mini Or Not, who has a picture of the stuff as the header for their Tools & Accessories Section, but don't list it as an item for sale [ PRETTY UNCOOL ]. I have a bag of Hudson & Allen Forest Litter I'm not going to be using; you can have it, if you'd like. PM me if interested. Dried Herbs from the Floral section of a good Craft store is a decent alternatative.

| @DeafNala - thanks for the reply on this one. Yes, you know the ones I mean, then - for all the world they look like tiny little maple leaves, or maybe sycamore. Can't find them anywhere, though.
I've used dried herbs on bases in the past. They haven't looked bad (in fact, they've looked pretty good), and have of course resulted in the hilarity of our gaming group sniffing the bases trying to guess the herbs. 'There's oregano, and basil, of course, and parsley, and...I'm getting just a hint of mint.' They tend to rub off quite easily, though.
Hudson and Allen Forest Litter, you say? I might try to find pics online somewhere to get an idea of what it looks like - and that's very kind of you, thank you. I'll let you know. It's still a bit premature on my part, as I'm still putting together the models. Sisters of Sigmar (as they've been lying around since forever), and I like the look of that wizarding warband in Legends of the Damned.
Thanks again! | |

| @ Hawkeye: You are MOST welcome, Buddy; we ARE, afterall, ALL in this together. Hudson & Allen make quite a variety of VERY good scenicing items geared toward the military modeler [their Slush is GREAT mixed with regular Snow for a sparkly effect]; as such it's a bit difficult finding their stuff [my local hobby shop carries a LIMITED selection periodically ]. For more general scenic stuff Walthers [ www.walthers.com ] is THE BEST source in the states. | |

Isn't 28mm more like 1/65? Actually I thought it was 1:60, but then I found some cool tanks with some GW IG next to them showing them to be a very nice matchup scalewise, AND they claimed the models to be 1:56. BTW S scale is 1:64, & buildings in this scale look a bit too small next to a 28mm mini.

| Measuring up an older Citadel, which I suppose would be considered a true 28 mm mini, he came in at 1 1/4"; an O gauge mini at 1:48 scale is 1 5/16" a difference of 1/16", so 1/56 seems close. Also scalewise what does the 28mm represent? Some folks say it's 6', but an actual man from the Middle Ages/Renaissance would come in at 5'4" or less. If you think about it enough, you'll get a full scale migraine. | |
