The dark depths of madness caves: Part 1

Today saw Dr Frank.N.Stein and his merry band of monsters skulking around underground tunnels.

The tunnels were old and dangerous with cave ins constantly blocking paths and battering zombies with rocks however the promise of treasures and excitement were worth the risk of tunnels falling in around them. The warband split up into 3 groups searching around the tunnels, the mad scientist gleefully following his flesh monstrosity through the tunnels until a group of giant snarling rats with mottled fur and hideous fangs appear from the darkness. With a great roar the flesh construct charged into them swinging his mighty fists and tearing a rat apart as a zombie charged into another and the hunchback assistant Dr E.Gor charged into another thrusting his electrically charged trident at the rat.

Meanwhile Count Drake Youla the vampiric thrall alongside another zombie and the wolfman were breaking through the fallen rubble of a cave in as the other hunchback assistant Fritz and his two zombie escorts began exploring other tunnels heading towards echoing voices who spoke like the humans from the lands of marienburg.

Exploring and fighting continued as the great Doctor Stein fought with the final giant rat but although it had stuck back out of fear until now it managed to shrug off the blows of his chainsaw sword and lept at him quick as a flash its claws and teeth managing to critically wound the resiliant doctor knocking him to the ground unconcious, Dr Gor charged into the rat alongside their zombie and the flesh construct intent on getting revenge for his doctor but his trident zapping with electrical energy only managed to knock the rat down however the powerful flesh construct stomped its head to mush. With the doctor now avenged the zombie was sent to scout further along the tunnel as groans were heard and zombies not belonging to the doctor stumbled out of the dark depths. Overcome by fear Dr Gor could do nothing but watch helplessly as his zombie and the flesh construct charged against these zombies managing to take out one but being mercilessly cut down in the process.

As he continue to watch in fear sure he would be killed and eaten the Count charged in past him and began fighting the zombies but became locked in a stalemate battle. Meanwhile Fritz had discovered an old pistol and a set of leather armour as a loud gunshot followed by the thud of a zombie falling over assured him that the marienburgers had found them, he was in a small group and the foes had gunpowder so he knew it would be best to regroup if they were to take the fight to the enemy. As he sprinted back down the tunnels he heard the marienburgers yelling about an exit, he hoped the humans would leave shortly and not try to chase him down.

With the losses already sustained and the count beginning to be swarmed by zombies the warband turned tail and fled deeper into the tunnels waiting until the marienburgers had left before slipping out of the cave under the cover of night.

End of game result:
Loss for the Masters of horror due to a failed rout test leaving the default victory to the marienburg mercenaries who unfortunately did not manage to uncover any treasure but gained experience from slaying proper denizens.

Dr Stein suffered nerve damage resulting in losing 1 leadership, the zombie survived but the flesh construct had to be repaired for 25 gold, thankfully 60 gold was recovered in exploration and the pistol, unable to be used was sold for 8 gold.

All in all a very fun game and certainly worrying losing my warband leader so early on to a giant rat of all things, got a +5 underdog bonus due to the marienburgers being over 301 warband rating higher than me meaning good experience all round for heroes and henchman

The next battle shall probably see a bitten added to the ranks of henchman and stein shall hopefully be brewing potions for hopefully good results. It is aliiiive!

Doing these ones gives me a bit of practice and it was fun to write Very Happy

I'm hoping next game to see if i can get the warband more stuck in with fights and exploring

The dark depths of madness caves: Part 2: The shallow cave

Dr Frank.N.Stein and his band were not lost in this cave, with the exit being only a small bit to the north they had their way out should it be needed but the hopes of treasure drew them in, they travelled eastwards through the cave and very quickly arrived at a cavern the glow of their torches illuminated three skeletons standing amongst tattered boxes and supplies of previous expeditions.

Picture:

Two of the zombies and the Flesh Golem charged into the skeletons limbs flailing as they failed to do any real damage and the skeletons failed to attack back. One skeleton archer was stood back but alas stein forgot to use his bow as he moved into position to see it. The skeleton shot at Dr E.Gor but failed to do anything as the undead slapfest continued. Steins arrow failed to damage the skeleton archer but progress was finally made with the flesh golem smashing his way through skeletons. The team eventually managed to dispatch all the skeletons but alas only found a hook and rope.

Pictures:

Meanwhile in another nearby tunnel a warband of night goblins were searching around as they came upon a vampire in a cavern, many of them let fear overcome them and hid against the cavern walls but the squigs and a brave few warriors managed to eventually overcome and defeat the vampire.

The dark depths of madness caves: Part 3: The Squig Tunnels

The caves echoed with the snarls of monsters and the shouts of men, the marienburgers were back within the caves with Stein and his band. They'd had an encounter with these humans before and almost lost one of his undead creations to their gunfire, they were better armed than Steins band and much more numerous. Stein hoped they would not come across the main group of this band. Stein had managed to craft himself an Aberrantius Vigortia potion boosting his strength and toughness.

A zombie shambled to the east revealing a cavern, there was nought within the cavern but rubble and a small trap that almost claimed the zombie, a hook and rope was obtained amongst the rubble as the rest of the warband rushed north. A band of squig riders lept out of the darkness at them but the combined efforts of Fritz, the Wolfman and two zombies began to pile into the riders and dispatched 3 with ease. Dr E.Gor charged ahead past the fighting but was knocked flat off his back by a cave-in close to the fighting. The rest of the warband began to head to the fray.

Pictures:

Meanwhile the Marienburgers had problems of their own, two search parties had each run into denizens the eastern party facing squig riders and the western party facing dangerous zombies however their superior experience and equipment allowed them to make quick work of the dangerous foes

Pictures:

As Steins band thought the squig riders one of the bitten discovered a snake pit blocking the next eastern passage, it would require fast and athletic warriors to traverse. Thankfully Dr Stein had come prepared with a hook and rope and the bitten and Count Drake Youla were stood by ready to pull the Doctor back up should he fall. Thankfully the good doctor managed to make it across quickly followed by the Count and the Bitten. The Bitten ran ahead to check the next room but yet more squig riders pounced out of nowhere! They bounced with lightning speed and the poor Bitten was quickly taken out of the battle, meanwhile the wolfman had managed to get across with the doctor and the count on standby with their rope.

Pictures:

As the three heroes rushed forward to engage the squig riders the warbands resident idiot zombies attempted to cross the pit of venemous snakes, one of them lept across without difficulty in a feat of astonishing athleticism however the next zombie and the flesh golemn stumbled and fell into the pit of snakes however with the undead monsters not caring about the petty snake venom they struck at the snakes and began stomping and squishing them apart.

Picture:

Meanwhile the marienburgers had encountered a bigger and more terrifying threat... an ancient vampire! Guns blaring and swords shining in the torchlight the marienburgers engaged the vampire but it held its own until the mercenary captain stormed into the fight and cleaved the vampire asunder with his mighty greatsword.

Picture:

Stein and his fellow subservient monsters began to quickly take out the squig riders with ease however more of the other warband members were struggling with the pit two more zombies and a bitten had also fallen in! Dr Gor unfortunately missed his jump and slammed down into the pit being knocked out by the fall but thankfully the undead and infected henchman managed to slaughter the pesky snakes without further injury.

Pictures:

The fighting was about to get a whole lot harder as they heard a terrible cackle in the distance as the wolfman entered into the next cave section and a vampire swooped down upon him. The vampire dispatched the wolfman as the count charged in against him but the doctor was overcome by his fear for a moment. As the count and the evil vampire duelled it out stein managed to rush in alongside a zombie but the good count was defeated by this vampire, seeing its horrible power stein opted to grab the bodies and flee the caves getting as far from the vampire as humanly possible

Picture:

End of match outcomes:
Noone died (Noone important at least, cant remember if any henchman were lots) however E.Gor sustained an old battle wound and the majority of henchman got lads got talent resulting in 2 zombie medics, a zombie animal handler and a bitten animal handler. A pistol and hook and rope were retrieved, the pistol was sold and a good score of loot obtained. Unfortunately stein rolled the one addictive potion that game when it was my first time ever rolling potions for him, and then he got addicted to it... my my the one time i dont want high dice rolls

UnDeath in the Streets!: Part 1: The Green Menace
Steins band walked through the streets looking for spots to scavenge when arrows flew past them, they were not alone! Goblin archers peppered the warband getting lucky arrows managing to take out bitten and the wolfman! Unfortunately Dr E.Gor's old battle wound caused him to miss this battle so they were already lacking in numbers especially now more had been taken out by archers. Stein had managed to create his Vigortia potion before the battle so had his fix and was ready to battle! He proceeded to charge up with the rest of his band. Zombies and humans alike charged into the ork lines however steins henchman were quickly and ruthlessly cut down as he, Fritz and the count also charged in alongside his golem. Alas luck was still favouring the orks more than Steins band as fritz missed with his trident and the electricity went out of control frying him, froth drooled out of his mouth and blood poured from his eyes as his brain and many of his internal organs were rendered to mush by the strong electrical current.

Picture:

Several orks were taken out of action but soon it was down to just Dr Stein, Count Youla, the flesh golem and a single zombie all trying to fight back against this green tide. All but the zombie were engaged with the ork boss and were fighting well but the ork had lucky charms and rabbits feet on his side allowing him to miraculously ignore the hits. Eventually even the count was taken out of action and with only 3 of them left and no chance in hell of breaking through the ork lines Stein was forced to flee and suffer yet another humiliating defeat.

Pictures:

End of battle report: The count would have died if it wasn't for the combined efforts of the medical zombie who wasn't out of action and Dr Stein. Fritz was unfortunately slain by his trident and there was no way to cure a brain that had been fried into pure mush. Thankfully stein managed to call in Fritz's brother Franz to join the band as his new hunchback assistant however after seeing his brothers fate Franz opted to arm himself with duel maces and strayed far away from any electrical tridents for now. Only 30 gold was obtained unfortunately due to all but one hero being taken out of action or not participating.

The amount of losses are disheartening but due to the nature of a lot of the battles its not too bad, denizens in the caves are designed to be hard for newer warbands and the orks and goblins got very lucky with criticals in the city fight which is why he managed to win so easily. It also doesn't help in cave fights that i'm very good at rolling criticals for the denizens attacks and not my own, also im pretty sure in that last match fritz scored a critical against himself when he was killed with his trident. Lady luck is not my friend right now unfortunately.

Sorry about picture quality they're from a phone and apologies for the delay in writing up these last 2 reports but they're here now which is good and steins not done yet! So look out for further adventures from him around early june!
