Dr. J's World: Update 07/12/14

Well my old friend & patron, Dr J(ustin Sipla) has succumbed to the lure(?) of 40K, AND asked me to do some terrain for his gaming group. Dr. J & the Siplans are campaigning on a Desert/Mad Max-style World. SO the first batch of thingies are Southwestern rock pillars:



There seems to be an Ork Infestation here (for size comparison):






Dwellings, ruins, fuel tanks, & slapped together fortifications are all on the agenda. Comments as always would be welcome.

Thanks, Ben! I'm knocking out some irregular rock formations, scree, & such...all of which is giving me ideas for the underground sections connecting to the Graveyard & Shanty Town. It's a matter of one idea feeding another.

The next part will be Man(?) Made Thingies: intact & ruined buildings, storage tanks, & such. Until then your comments & critiques would be most welcome...mostly.   

No critique from my part, this terrain turned out really nice.

Next on the agenda will be ruins, debris, make-shift shelter & barricades. THEN back to my own silliness...OH BABY!   

I have the first of the Man-Made pieces primed & ready for some painting. The top section of the soda can tower is an ArmorCast resin piece; all the rest is miscellaneous junk. SO here you go:





I'm not sure where I going from here, but that adds to the excitement. Be that as it may, your comments would be appreciated.   

I like both the new rocks and the tower. The tower for now is a little "grey" and clean imo. It could use some inks and such here and there for a weathering-effect.

Please don't take offense, Grim...I always get this reaction. I haven't started the paint job on the tower/fuel tank pieces; the dry brushed white over black is just the way I prime all my pieces. That aside, I'm glad you like the rocks, which are finished, & the towers/tanks, which aren't. Thanks for the reply!

Thanks, Ben! It's coming along, although, now that I've come up with some ideas for my own Project, all too slowly.   

I added a couple more bunker like pieces to the desert industrial scene. They're all primed white on black awaiting some color:

Once I get the go ahead, a couple more bunkers may be added along with some general junk. Then paint.

Beautiful terrain as always. Top notch. . Do you find it a bit more challenging to do sci-fi terrain as oppose to fantasy/wilderness terrain? I do. Mind you, I cut my teeth with terrain building with making sc-fi terrain for Necromunda. It made the fantasy/ mordheim terrain a bit easier to make.

I would agree; i.e., SciFi terrain is decidedly more difficult to make, harder to paint, & color schemes don't some to mind as readily. I have no idea why this is, but it seems to be the case. However, I would love to do a Necromunda &/or Post Apocalypse board or two.
All things considered I'm looking forward to getting back to my own strange Project...I miss the Mushrooms & working on all this stuff has given me time to come up with some fresh ideas for The Project.   

OMG! A post apocalypse gaming board is a great idea. Mostly piles of junk and mashed up cars plus a small mad max style shady town. Maybe for roads, have abandon car pile ups on them. Hmmm....I'll have to try that out when I have a bigger place to live to store all of it. . Could use it as a warhammer 40k gamming table. That would be a fun project to do.

AND the first three...possibly the last three...bunkers are done...OH BABY! (the standard reaction to the completion of a commission piece otherwise known as "that release from Hell feeling). SO here are some almost adequate photos of the pieces:

There you have it. The two tanks & shed will be next; then off they go to the Bleak, Dark World that is 40K Iowa...insert a blood curdling scream here. Once the package is sent & until I here what Himself wants next, I'm free to do whatever I want...within the constraints of my present physical condition that is.
