| I just bought my first failcast miniature from games workshop, the Goblin warboss on gigantic spider. First, I dont see much of a quality upgrade in that... the casting is pretty much the same as their plastic...BUT...
This is fragile as hell...I broke two parts by removing them from the sprues!! And the hell to assemble them! First, normal polystyrene glue doesn't work so I have only 2 other alternatives I know : Cyanoacrylate and Epoxy.
I hate working with epoxy. It's ''fat'' and create some defects on the miniatures... its also shitty as you have to hold the miniature for 5 minutes for each piece then mix another bunch of glue for the next piece...
Cyanoacrylate is good but its not strong enough and as soon as the miniature have a little hit it crumbles to pieces.
So thanks you Games workshop for this ''superb'' material (I'm sarcastic here). I feel like I bought a 60$ piece of shit ...
PS: Do you know any other glues that would work please???

| Can only agree. Finecast is probably the worst thing ever. I got some human sorcerer in finecast and I too broke small parts on him. My roomie got one as well and it ended up breaking something on him as well. Haven't brought it since. We use the Citadel Super Thin glue, works fine with it. | |

| I have had some not so good models, but most of mine were fine. The metal models converted to Finecast seem to have the most problems. Superglue works just fine since the material is so light and I haven't needed to pin anything like I have to do with metal. Epoxy would be overkill.
The one bad thing about Finecast is that you need to fill in the small bubbles, liquid green stuff works. It is a shame GW did not do enough research before releasing it, as I prefer working on resin models over metal.
Still nothing beats, IMHO, plastic for the variety of poses and conversions.

| I have no idea what Cyanoacrylate is but GW say to use superglue. Plastic glue (polystyrene cement) won't work as it isn't polystyrene.
I really like FINEcast (and I am a bit bored of all the Failcast (etc) "jokes"). It paints really nicely as the surface texture is much nicer than metal or plastic.
Anyway, I get the impression Finecast is only a stopgap between removing metal and releasing everything in plastic. The rumours say that Forge World and Games Workshop are going to be brought closer together and all resin models will be made by FW in their resin or something inbetween FW resin and Finecast. They say the websites will be merged next month.

| CA glue (cyanoacrylate) is superglue.
I agree, all the Failcast jokes have gotten old.

I hope you're wrong with forge world/games workshop merging...
Do I smell a prices raise...??? Yess.. and here in Canada we already pay near 30%-40% higher prices than Europ... a raise is not welcome at all....

| I haven't tried the G.W. resin pieces myself. I do, however, have some experience with Armorcast resin minis, accessories, & terrain. Some of the flack the Whatever-you-care-to-call-them Casts have more to do with the nature of the resin than any mishandling by G.W.. Bubbles, miscasts, & a certain delicacy to the thinner parts are the weak side of resins. Generally speaking I've enjoyed painting the Armorcast pieces I've purchased. They've held up well. AND were somewhat less expensive than similar metal pieces; I have noticed this is not the case with G.W. or Forge World, but as they say "you pay the price & take your choice". | |

| I guess you can always go to the black market (a.k.a. eBay) and get the metal equivalents to the finecrap (sorry Warboss, couldn't miss the opportunity) that GW is currently casting.
Anyway, I have some of them (Ogre maneaters) and generally they look ok (not brilliant, as some of the detail tends to be missing) and superglue (Loctite precision) works perfectly with them.
Of course, there are other companies out there that make genuine finecast models in resin and for lower prices too.
