| Hi,
I was really scared of your answer, von Kurst, because I thought perhaps we played another campagn wrong ;-)
As for the painting of my warband I thought of opening another "Hobby-Thread".
Actually I have painted:
2 Gors 2 Bestigors Chieftain (only last highlights missing) 1 Gor (only base colors and washed) 2 Warhounds
Next there would be finishing the Gor and the chieftain and paint the next / last two gors. For my shaman I would try to convert another model (made of white metal), which I never did before. Then there would be giving my centigor another head and painting him again. And there would be the minotaur, which won't be used soon, but has to be painted, though... and because in the next game, I have a hired sword (not sure if getting the cursed hillman or the witch, yet) for free, I would have to work on that, too...
So I have at least some more weeks to work on.
But the next army would also be ready, but I have to get a nice idea for basing first (which should be different than my Beastmen's bases).

| Hi,
Very cool battle report and I love your scenery.
I just realized that Wertheim is not so far away from me here in Weiterstadt ( near Darmstadt).

| Hi SerialMoM,
that's nice. I supposed most people here weren't even from germany, so I didn't think of looking, where they are from.
In Wertheim there is a tabletop-club, but our gaming group just plays in private. If you would be interested, you should come by and visit us?

Maybe we can find a date. I am also more of a private group gamer. I was once a tabletop club executive and organised tournaments etc, but you know with family the hobby time decreases and it is more important to play with people you like and game with the same mindset. We stay in contact maybe we find a date in summer. I will also follow your campaign.

| Because my wife is out of town, we had the chance to make two new games this afternoon.
But actually I don't have enough time and joy writing this long battle reports with the amount of pictures as before. Another reason is, that we have two new players and I really lose the overview.
New players are Christian with Marienburgers and Erik with Outlaws of Stirwood Forest.
My first game was against the Reiklander Player with the scenario street fight. I don't think we made everything right, but it was okay.
Nobody tried to flee, we tried to kill.
Unfortunately ONLY my Chieftain killed one enemy henchmen who was out of action. All of the other kills were made by henchmen, not by my heroes.
After getting killed one warhound and having killed two enemy wardogs, one youngblood and one warrior-henchmen, he fled.
After the game we rolled for everything. My warhound was alive, his youngblood dies.
My Bestigor Vargo got a new skill (I chose mighty blow), my Centigor +1 I and two of my gors got +1 attack each. Pretty nice ;-)
When rolling for exploration I found 5 wyrdstones, a straggler and 8 gold. For a total of 74 gold I bought one familiar for my shaman and five lucky charms for all of my heroes. 8 gold left! I dismissed my witch for being able buying lucky charms for everybody. Not sure, if that was a big mistake.
The next game was against pirates. He had (using merc-names) his captain, two champs, two other heroes and some marksmen, one with a swivel gun. I had a rating of 159, he 86 or so. So he got an underdog bonus.
Easy going game... at least I thought it.
He ran on top of a building with ladders, so my centigor and my warhounds were completely useless the whole game.
I charged from two sides, which was pretty good. But I had bad luck, really bad dice luck, for god's sake.
So I lost, not being able to take my rout test after turn 6. If I didn't rout, I might have changed the game.
I took OOA his swivel gunner, one heroe and one henchmen. Unfortunately also only with henchmen, not a single xp for my heroes.
He killed my two last gors (having 2 attacks each!) and my bestigor Vargo. You sure remember: He had mighty blow, WS5, Clubs, shield, helmet, lucky charm and rabbits foot.
When rolling for injuries, my henchmen survived. Then I rolled for my Vargo:
First dice: 6
Yes, can only be good.
Second dice: 1.
Captured.
f**k!
So the pirate refused to take 70 gold for my bestigor and took him as a crew member. At least not as swabbie, so he lost all his equipment, his stats and his REALLY nice skills.
When rolling after the game the Reiklander has now a hero with W3, which will really be hard.
My two first gors advanced, one getting +1 WS (not bad), one getting +1 T (really nice!). My shaman Soltar got a new skill. Because now he has Dodge and a familiar I really think of getting him a second spell. What do you think??
So I bought a new bestigor with two clubs, a shield and a helmet. And new stats.
My new warband rating is 161 or something like that.
The other warbands really evolved, the skaven has now a lot of verminkin and a LOT of slings. Marienburger and Outlaws really dont bother me, as they are kind of unexperienced and have a low rating. Next game probably will be against skaven.
So now I have a brand new Bestigor (yay oO?) and am looking forward to the next game... Not really happy at the moment....

Ja, writing everything up takes a bit of time. And when we have more than four players I lose track of everything quite often. Pity about your Bestigor, although I think the pirates are missing a good thing by making him crew. That Bestigor was tough. (Of course its always nice to have a potential non-human LGT, too.) At least it is early in the campaign, so your replacement can grow into a killer.

| Hi,
yeah, I really didn't understand, why the bestigor becomes a Crew-Member, when the pirate is "winning" the dice roll. He would be more useful as swabbie?
Also because our house rules don't allow to flee, so a swabbie is imho better than a crew... But good luck for that.
I just forgot, that he counts as a beastmen having their max stats... Have to talk with the pirate player...
All in all the second game yesterday really sucked. Bad luck with the dice is really a killer, but I really have no idea how to better play that scenario (skirmish, by the way).
The opponent with a lot of pistols, swivel gun and handguns climbs a building and camps there, trying to push down all the ladders.
So at least Centigor and warhounds are completely useless in such a scenario. And with my other beastmen climbing walls and attacking models I didn’t see, I had to roll iniative for attacking, initiative for climbing, initiative for diving attack… Of course, one of them fails.
I really think of starting with the dwarfs right ahead. Going to make them heavy shooters being able to hide and camp, too. And only some CC-hard hitters for protection, if the enemy should break through….

| As I realized today, I forgot my camera at work. So the next battle reports aren't pic-heavy... not even one picture, I'm afraid. And that's pretty sad, because it was the first game ever I played with a fully painted warband!
We played two games today. While the first was lost during bad luck (but with no negative aspects nontheless), the second was a bloody mess for my opponent.
At first I played Treasure Hunt against skaven. He found the chest in his first round, 13 inches from his side. Though I attacked him heavily in my last turn, I didn't manage to kill anything, so he escaped. I was in 7 h-t-h-combats and knocked 6 rats down, but I could't kill anything. On the other table was pirates against reiklanders and here was the chest near the pirates table edge, so he won this game!
After the game, my gor Thoros rolled tlgt and +1 Str, so I have all six heroes now!, my Bestigor Drog-Tarr got a new skill, I chose shaggy hide.
I bought for my new hero lucky charm, rabbit's foot, light armor, helmet and shield and that was it.
The second game really was hard. We played surprise attack. I was the defender against reikland. I got two gors and my shaman on the table, nothing else.
The attacker attacked and in his first turn he shot one of my gors. He got in range for my shaman with his two dogs, but couldn't attack, because he couldn't see anything. So in the next turn I charged and killed one of the dogs. Unfortunately he got his chieftain in this combat, his other dog and one more hero and slayed my shaman! With his dog ;-)
His shooting wasn't effective though his marksmen now have long bows AND crossbows, because wounding with str 3 against all of my T4 minis really sucked ;-)
In one turn I charged his youngblood and one of his champions with 2 bestigors, one gor and one dog. He wanted to attack one of my gors with a jumping attack with hies Chieftain, but he fell and was injured and lay in charge range for my Chieftain ;-) One of my bestigors killed his champion.
In my last turn everything charged in front. In this turned I killed his chieftain, his other dogs and his youngblood.
After all: Markman kills gor Shaman kills dog other dog kills shaman Bestigor kills dog Bestigor kills champion Bestigor 2 kills youngblood Chieftain kills reikland boss!
When rolling for injuries my gor survived and my shaman was sold to the pits. In a short fight with me charging i killed the pit fighter in the first round.
After this game (the seventh afaik) ALL of my heroes and two of my henchmen advanced.
To cut a long story short: Here is my actual warband:
Heroes:
Kal-Torak: Chieftain Stats: M5, WS4, BS3, S4, T4, W1, I5, A2, LD7 Equipment: light armor, helmet, sword, mace, shield, rabbit's foot, lucky charm, rope&hook unholy relic Skills: Dodge XP: 33

Drog-Tarr, Bestigor Stats: M5, WS4, BS3, S4, T4, W1, I4, A1, LD7 Equipment: 2x mace, shield, rabbit's foot, rope&hook, lucky charm Skills: Immune to fear, shaggy hide, step aside XP: 17

Zerfetzer/Zerfleischer (2x warhound) Stats: M7, WS4, BS0, S4, T3, W1, I3, A1, LD5
Total warband rating: 190 Gold left: 62 WS left: 0
Not sure, what to buy next. The reikland-player has some heroes with three wounds, I'm not sure, how good the minotaur will be. Reiklandplayer has every henchmen with bs5 and the mino would be also a large target...
Any good hints for me?
Edit: The opponents now also use more hired swords. Pirate has a bounty hunter, reikland a warlock, who is able to cast the flying spell, the fireball and the silver arrows. And of course he is so behind, that i can't reach him...

| The warband is coming along nicely. A warhorn would be a good investment. Saving for the Minotaur never hurts, but a couple of more bodies now might be a help. | |

| Thanks for your tipps!
I'm not sure, if the warhorn is THAT good? I really like the unholy relic better..?
I'm also not sure, how to get "more bodies" in my army.
I though of mercs. But I only have the fluffwise choice of warlock, witch and cursed hillman. With the ranged attacks only the first ones would really help (being a lot cheaper, is a nice side effect). But with the enemys having an high amount of shooting attacks, I'm not sure, how long they survive. But I think, the warlock really is hard, especially when having the right spells!
When buying more Beastmen: Which? Not sure about ungors, because they not really can shine in hth. On the other hands I would have three more warhounds to paint, but I really hate having models, which are unable to climb ladders... =/

OK. Not sure why the relic precludes the warhorn in your opinion since they are separate items. The warhorn is an additional option, not a either or option. It is an option that increases your chances of passing a break test, but that's all it is. - Quote :

First does it matter how long they survive? Compared to replacing a Marksman or a gor, replacing a hired sword is easy and cheap. In addition any shots that hit a hired sword are not hitting your heroes. Second, using hired swords requires the same tactics that your warband uses. Keep to cover, limit the number of shots your opponent can take at one model. If you are only making frontal assaults, you are throwing the game away. More troops. After hired swords, you only have three choices. The thing that tickles me about the ungors suck lament is that ungors are no worse than a human's or skaven's standard choice. They have the same potential for S4, WS 4 and 2 Attacks. They are the same T. I don't bother with ungors to start because they can't become heroes. But after they are relatively cheap and can perform the same role that hounds do for Centigors with the Bestigors.

| Okay, thank you!
I know that warhorn and relic are seperate items, but I wasn't sure, if to buy the warhorn, it didn't seem that good to me.
So I'm going to have to buy a set of ungors. Or perhaps I could even convince my gaming group that I could use short bows on them, which would be kind of nice ;-)
