Here are some pictures of my skaven I bought in england .
I don't use the WYSIWYG rule, because I don't want to convert my miniatures everytime I change their weapons.

Aaaah Stinka's long expected pics are here!

First off: good job. I like your unconventional choice of colours. Red and blue are usually hard to pull off on skaven, but you chose dark shades, which makes it look good (Ashton did the same if I remember correctly).

Now the constructive criticism

Metal: It would be great idea to brush the metal parts in Tin Bitz first and THEN in Boltgun Metal. It is an extremely easy and effective technique to give your weapons some "depth". Try it, you won't be dissapointed. If you dont like drybrushing (which would be hard to believe: long live the drybrush!) you could apply a thick layer of Devlan Mud wash over the brightly painted blades.

Layering: You did the right thing, you built up layers from the darkest to the brightest. The only thing you have to work on is a tiny bit more neatness. For this 2 things are crucial. First, practice (but that will come in time, so no worries, after 20 minis you'll be world champion) and secondly a GOOD BRUSH. I have seen beginners all upset because they could not paint a neat line with a brush that looked more like the one you use to brush your teeth. So get a good brush, with a nice tip and try never to dip the brush into paint so that it goes up to the metal part. By the same occasio i would like to vividly recommend Vallejo Model Colour and Vallejo Game Colour paints, which contain more, come in handy tubes (no more dipping required) and are perfectly mixable with all other acrylic model paints.

VERY NICE START to what should be a cool Warband! Keep up the GOOD WORK!

I haven't until recently been much of a Skaven Fan.; then zelophahad posted his Chaos Space Rats (Marines), AND they suddenly had a charm all their own.

The WYSIWYG rule is VERY useful in providing an excuse to do up YET another mini each time your mini NEEDS a weapon upgrade; AND the only amount of minis a man can have is NOT ENOUGH!

The problem is I have only 10 different colours here (Blood Red, Goblin Green, Enchanted Blue, Sunburst Yellow, Bronzed Flesh, Vomit Brown, another brown, Mithriel Silver, Chaos Black and Skull White). I think I'll drybrush them with a mix of Chaos Black and my brown.

Well, maybe I'll use the rule, when I tried the game, these miniatures are just to get into the game.

I wanted to change their coat colours and the armor of some special miniatures (leader, sorcerer, maybe black skaven)
Nightrunners get a blue coat
The leader gets a red / brown coat
Black skaven get a black / grey coat

For a beginner this is really good! You're gonna be awesome soon enough mate! I recommend watering down your paints a bit, I never used to but I went into GW for some advice on painting and the guy there really impressed upon me the need to water down and I haven't looked back since lol! Makes layering so much more effective!

Well, I'm sorry that I dissappeared here without saying a word.
The reason was, that I thought I would never finish my Skaven, but I couldn't stand having so many unpainted minis on my desk, and I wanted to paint at least 1 warband.

So after christmas, when my sister gets a good camera I will show you my finished warband. Well after the long break I am even worse in painting minis than before ~.~.
And I HATE Skaven , I'm glad that I don't have to paint them anymore.

When I bought the minis in England, I also bought Human warriors.
I painted the first today and now I am really interrested in painting again...
I hope my motivation will hold at least so long, that I can try a game (I was too lazy to read that rulebook... It's not so easy for me, I'm german)

Good to see you back around here, Stinka! When I saw that you posted I was like "Oh, Stinka's back!". It sure's been a little while.

Welcome back! I understand about alot of unpainted Minis laying around. Im feverishly painting my 40K Orks for my WAAAGH Campaign at our shop, so Its slowed down my painting of my Dwarfs.
That will just give me more time to get some more Dwarfs in and come up with some unique ideas for them.
Cant wait to see more pics soon

Hey Stinka,

I like them. The hook on the fellow's hand is a nice touch, for sure. The Skaven are probably my favorite though.

My biggest problem is that I don't have much time at home to go online - so I don't tend to comment in the evenings. And then here at work, it seems about 90% of the photos are blocked by my company, so it makes it very difficult for me to comment.

But please, keep posting. I for one love seeing other people's stuff (miniatures, I mean). I just don't always have time to comment on them unfortunately.

SO... COOL STUFF!

The latest batch of photos REALLY show off the Lads/Thingys VERY nicely. The Skaven are IMPRESSIVE not merely for their numbers but the splendid way you did them up. The only thing they lack is a bit of attention to the bases; otherwise they ARE beautiful [for Rats that is ].
I LOVE the way the Reiklanders have come out. They are nicely positioned, well painted, mounted on great bases [your Skaven are getting jealous ], AND show a considerable amount of personality. The Pistol weilding chap in the last group of pics is my personal favorite. WELL DONE, Amigo!
