| Subject: How to make books Fri 10 Oct 2008 - 0:05 | |
| Greetings all. I am a 40 year old guy who have been playing RPGs for well over 20 years. I first started out playing Warhammer about 20 years ago. Actually we already modified the rules somewhat back then and played it much like Mordheim. In my civilian life I am a teacher. I teach children with autism. Been in special education for about 15 years now. I teach all subjects but at the teacherscollege I specialized in biology and art. I hope having some basic knowledge from our artlessons back then might pay off I have a son who is 3 and a nephew who is 10 who I have corrupted with Warhammer since he was 8 . I am the one assisting Alex on his building projects. Since I am a total rookie when it comes to modelbuilding, Alex is supervising my work. I think we are a good team since I am alot into details and might get some crazy ideas to what I want to do on the models and Alex is much more experienced and knows what is doable and will actually last for more than one gamesetting. Also Alex knows alot about workprocess. When I due to lack of experience tend to do some stuff the hard way, Alex can share from his experience and teach me how to do things easier and more effective. Currently we have the Windmill on stand by since I am on vacation diving on Cayman Islands. Alex started the windmillproject like 7 years ago but had kept it in the basement since then. I sorta dusted it off and started to work on it under his supervision. Alex had already made the base of the model in foamboard. For details on the Windmill, I have been thinking about some wheatsacks stashed and some knocked over. I want some flour to be poured out on the floor and a rat or two scurrying in the flour. Had some difficulty finding rats of the right size but think the problem can be solved with rats from the boardgame Hero Quest. Maybe if possible and if they will be visible adding some bats under the roof. I already found the bats. On the ground and on the base of the Windmill, I want to have a horsecart half turned over with a broken wheel and some sacks on it. Tried to look some carts up but couldnt really find any, I could use. Thought about some carts I had when I was a kid (thats well over 30 years ago) and played with some plastic western figures. Couldnt find any though. Guess I will have to build one from scratch out of balsawood when I get back. On the gallows and chopblock area, I wanted to add a raven or two. Already found one that will fit, I think. Under the gallows, I think it would be neat to have another scurrying rat (if Alex will allow it ) I actually like how the whole weatherbeaten woodplank look is turning out. I think it will be cool when it gets painted. For details on that piece, Alex also have some very neat ideas, but I will let it be up to him to reveal in due time. To Oldcastle and Ezekiel: Alex explained in post 6 on this thread how he made the books. Also Ashton politely supplemented the info with some very usefull link to bookmaking. I hope that answers your question. Sincerly Jan | |

| Welcome to the Forum Jan! It's great to have you. Thanks for the introduction. It sounds like you'll fit in nicely. The internet is a great place to collect ideas and experience . I don't know what you're doing cruising around the Cayman Islands when you could be working on a windmill, but I guess it takes all kinds... (Or maybe I should say, I don't know what you're doing posting an introduction on TBMF when your diving in the Cayman Islands...) Enjoy Your stay. =] | |

| Having had a rahter productive saturday and sunday (as I didn't go to town neither on friday or saturday ) I figured it was time for a small update on the scenery side. First its the gallows - they are almost done - All I need to do is the chopping-block, "head-bucket" and the corpse that is going to hang from the gallows. The second thing is roads - My current gameboard is a sanded MDF painted brown. In order to add some mood to the game, I made some roads years ago, when I first started playing. Now I have finally finished the pieces of cardboard I cut out several years ago. Anyway the roads are not just for show - whenever we play the game, first we place the objective building - if there is one. Then we take turns placing the roads (3 sections at a time - two of which must be connected to existing roads - ie. the first player must place all three sections as one road) After this is done we place the buildings - this way the roads limit where you place the buildings without knowing how it will actually influence the game. Anyway let me know your thoughts what you think so far. The library in this thread is almost done - its painted and all I need to finish is the topline of rooftiles and the shelves and the books on the bottom floor - they are currently drying after their first layer of paint. The builiding needs to be finished for the game on friday. | |

| The Gallows are really cool. They came out great! The first thing I thought when I saw the street tiles is that they are perfect for the Horrors of the Underground scenario from the Border Town Burning supplement. They are exactly like the the tiles needed for that. Sounds like an interesting idea for the street set-up, by the way. | |

| WELCOME ABOARD, Jan! I hope you enjoy your stay at the Forum as much as we enjoy having you here. You & your buddy, Alex, are putting out some outstanding pieces. The gallows ROCKS, although your ideas on embellishments WOULD only make it that much better. The street tiles are a VERY cool idea. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK [or else ] ! | |

| I think that's a fantastic idea. How does it play? (How many times have you tried it?) If I ever get into a group of Terrain Hogs, I'll look into these roads - cianty wrote:

| We have used it quite a few times (its not always we bothered to use the roads)
It works out quite fine - it actually worked out really great last friday, where we had an excellent set-up with small alleys and some cool intersections.
I wil take some pictures on friday (when we have out next session) and post them afterwards.

| fan-freaking-tastic That is great. I love the piles of rubble, boxes and the siding (are those really stirring sticks? they look too thin.)
That first shot is totally an optical illusion. It took me 30 seconds to get everything turned around the right way. lol
Keep em coming. | |

| VERY NICE! The interior details are REALLY cool! Is that a rat poking its head out of a barrel? Nice touch; rats & grain definitely go together. LOOKIN' GOOD! | |

| Hahah Nice eyesight there, DeafNala..... yeah its a rat poking its head out of the barrel. There will be alot more details like that when the piece comes together.
The planks on the side of the mill is balsawood. Not stirring sticks. It came fairly cheap at our local hobbystore.

Where would that be exactly? Where did you get the balsa wood and where did you get the styrofoam?

| Hiya Drud.
If you go from Nørreport station towards Søerne on Frederiksborggade then you will see a hobbystore in the basement of the building on your left just before you cross Nørre Farimagsgade.
This is the hobbystore we use to stock up on all sort of stuff and to get inspiration. The store is mainly specialized towards trains and planemodels but you can find some neat stuff to fit into Mordheim too if you are somewhat creative.
Kind regards Jan | |

| Jan and I did some painting today. The mill is almost done. Still needs some touching up, and the base needs paint. Also I need to figure out some way of gluing the mill on to keep it stabil (it breaks of fairly easily now). Anyway here are some pics (Macro was on - but what the heck - when its done, I will post some nicer pics) Inside the mill Thats it for now - hopefully it will be done before christmas | |

| I figured it was time for a small update. Windmill is almost done - needs a little touching up with paint at the stonebase and some sacks of grain needs to be put on the cart. Also a few more rats might be placed somewhere and a few arrows and bolts here and there The pictures are without flash - it does give a better picture Also another small update with the gallows - also almost done (there pictures are not the best - I will post better ones, when its completely finished) All I need here is a few birds of prey (vulture) and a raven or two - and perhaps another rat (I bought them - I just need to paint them). There you go - now its time to do some cool radical painting | |

| As I have posted a few finished works today, I thought a few WIPs would be in order as well. Its the Tabletopworld Ruined Inn (its quite large), a Forgeworld well and ruined bridge. I put them all together in one big picture
I figure that I will use the ruined bridge for my next modular gaming table (canals and/or harbor area) - untill then I can still finish the paintjob.
