| I can't remember a Dwarf warband that didn't shoot at me in the first game. Any idea who your opponents are?
With the house rules it looks feasible.

| we are in the planning stages, so no idea for most warbands. One will be doing carnival of chaos, and there will be at least a skaven player and (I guess) a Sigmarite warband. No idea about the rest. There are 6-8 interested people. We will see how many of them move to be "real" gamers Cheers Xavi

| Hi,
I'm planning to play Clan Skryre in our next campaign, but need some help with my starting warband. I made to lists, one with ratling gun, another without it. During the first game I will keep the gun and the pump out of the game, because without warpsone tokens it seems not to be very useful. The warband with more miniatures are more likely to get that +1BS advance for a future gun, but i miss slings in that list...

| This warband is so rare that hardly anyone had heard of it let alone played it. Can't you start with warpstone tokens? | |

I was going to suggest the same if starting with the ratling gun, keep it out of the fight until you have accumulated enough warpstone and advances to make it worth fielding. Sadly you cannot start with tokens, they are refined from wyrdstone at a rate of d3 as a post game action for an apprentice. I'm not an expert on warband creation so i cant say whether it is better to take the ratling gun or wait and search for it later. Upside of buying at the start is you don't have to search with it, downside is a smaller starting warband. Since i too am planning of using this rare warband, i'll see if i can find the preliminary list i made a few months ago when i started the project for comparisons... Looking at your lists, i would drop the gas masks on any models not throwing globes (unless your playing strict wysiwyg, I'd argue their just broken until you can afford to fix them!) I tend to arm my heroes all differently based on what models i have available and what looks good, so i cringe when i see "youngblood" types all armed identically, but when gold is as tight as it is in this warband, i can tolerate it! Although it looks like we think alike when it comes to henchmen, cheap slaves and as many specialists as you can afford to maximize that BS advance potential!. Remember, specialists should be organized into groups of two (i asked the creator, he said the same group can be equipped differently to facilitate the loader and the firer). I'm not sure if it's beardy to take six groups of one as opposed to three groups of two... I do know it takes up a lot of space on the warband list. I'm undecided how I'll handle these groups Once you get the ratling gun into the action do you plan on saving up for another weapon? I was going to dedicate the remaining specialists to poison wind globe duty until i can afford a warp fore thrower or jezzial.

| Hey all.
I'm starting Beastmen in my first campaign in a long time. Here's what I'm thinking:
Chief - Hammer, free Dagger - 68 Shaman - Hammer, free Dagger - 48 Centigor - Hammer, free Dagger - 83 Bestigor - Hammer, free Dagger - 48 Bestigor - Hammer, free Dagger - 48
4x Gor - Hammer, free Dagger - 152 (Split up into groups of 1) 3x Warhounds - 45
TOTAL 492 gold
It's 12 total models so can voluntarily rout at 3 OoA which is also exactly how many hounds I have for fodder. I figure I rush the Hounds forward, if things are going well, I keep pressing, if not, take my exp and fight another day. It's got 4 of 5 possible Henchman slots filled that can roll TLGT. My first priority will be to hire a Cursed Hillman. He'll push me to needing 4 models OoA in order to rout, but keep me in the 9-12 bracket for Wyrdstone Selling. After that, I'll probably save for the Big guy.
Comments? Problems? I know it's pretty boring, but it seems most effective.

| I think the above list will serve you well.
I'd never heard of the Cursed Hillman until this week and now he's come up twice.
Depending on your opponents I like to go with the Minotaur from the first. Its a bit of a gamble, but the Minotaur is so good in hand to hand and fast. So I run the Centigor and the Minotaur right at them. Most often that's all it takes. Since my warband has so few models to start I can hire gors after most every game.
Just a thought. | |

| Yeah, I saw the Beastmen rule about Hired Swords then started searching for Hired Swords that meet the description. I may have just read the other thread he was brought up in, lol. Anyway, I downloaded the pdf to check him out and he seems really good for beastmen. BS 4 with a Long Bow. Has the chance to turn into a werewolf when wounded (like a pumped up version of a chaos hound).
I thought of the Minotaur right away, but getting all 5 heroes, the Minotaur, and 1 club for each costs 498 gold. Best way I could figure to include him was:
Chief - Hammer, free Dagger - 68 Shaman - Hammer, free Dagger - 48 Bestigor - Hammer, free Dagger - 48 Bestigor - Hammer, free Dagger - 48
Minotaur - Hammer, free Dagger - 203 Gor - Hammer, free Dagger - 38 2x Hounds - 30
TOTAL 483
It keeps the Warband in the 5-8 income bracket, includes one shot at TLGT after 2 games (assuming he lives), only has two fodder but only requires two fodder to voluntarily rout. Not that I would puposely rout, but if the first turn is complete, my band is still over half the table away from my opponent, and both my dogs are already down, I would fight another day. If my boys are in charge range before the last dog bites the bullet, then I'd (hopefully) stay to the end. Obviously, my first priority would be to get my Centigor in this set up. Then probably more Gors to get my 6th hero.

| We are a little free with the Hired Swords for Beasts, allowing the Ogre and the warlock, for example. I will have to check out the Hillman for future reference.
I can't remember how I did it when I started with the Minotaur. I've done it twice but since then others have picked up the Beasts and we spend a lot of time in Sartosa where there isn't much call. I either left out a Bestigor or just bit the bullet and started 5 heroes and a Minotaur.
Its a risky road and no mistake. I just have no luck at all with late game big guys.

| here's my Skaven starting list:
Assassin Adept: weeping blades, brace of warplock pistols
Eshin Sorcerer: free dagger, Spell: Black Fury
Black Skaven: Fighting Claws
Black Skaven: weeping blades, brace of warplock pistols
Night Runner: free dagger
Night Runner: free dagger
Models: 6, 500 gc
I know it's very tight as 3 models come into the game completely naked. But the reasoning behind this list is the following:
Buying expensive equipment now (especially warplock pistols) means I don't need to roll for rarity 11 later. So i only have to somehow survive the first (few) game(s) with some heroes not going ooA and will hopefully generate enough money to stock up in numbers soon.
Plan is to buy fighting claws for the eshin sorcerer and for the night runners a sling / club each. Apart from this stock up in numbers as soon and quickly as possible.
What do you think?
(btw, the reason that I indicate the spell already is because we houseruled that each spellcaster my CHOOSE the starting spell.)

Do you think that this warband is okay, for being Ostlanders? Welcome caratacos. Do you have house rules for spears or double handed swords? Or perhaps dual wielding? If not the weapons are a waste of money for a starting warband, but you have already survived your first game (and probably more.) Is there a reason to upgrade to handguns? Again do you have house rules that would support handguns over bows? Unless you are trying to wound some high T targets, bows win the battle with handguns in this game every time. @Dahag--my reaction to your list is that you have ignored the strengths of Skaven and played to their weakness. I think you can pull it off if you can avoid combat with your expensive heroes and roll well with your expendable ones. But instead of being strong to start your warband is weak and must wait to become stronger. Usually Skaven start strong and become weaker as other warbands catch up.

| Welcome aboard Von Krimson! As to the warband it depends on whether you are playing with other noobs or if you are playing with veterans. With laid back vets or pure noobs its a fun experiment. Otherwise your warband is not a viable warband for a campaign because you are ignoring how Mordheim works. You need to start with as many of your hero slots filled as you can. In this case you should take all 3 Dregs because heroes=income in the campaign. Income=survival. No income, no replacements for lost warriors and no new equipment or warriors. Since attrition can be quite high, no income or low income is a bad thing. Also your warband includes no ghouls which are the only warriors that can gain the coveted Lads Got Talent advance. A LGT means a new hero and MORE income. More income is good. A ghoul hero is good. Ghouls are good. Zombies are pure crap. I only take them for fluff reasons and I only take a couple. Unless you know you have a spell that will benefit a zombie, there is no reason to spend resources on them. (You can get them for free occasionally through the Exploration table.) Having lots of zombies just means your opponents will thank you for all the experience they got by taking them OOA. (Although this is harder for beginning warbands, I admit.) Weapons and armor. You may be going for WYSIWYG with your vampire, but starting with a 2-handed sword means you will strike last until you get the skill Strong Man. Not a bad gamble with a vampire, but an unnecessary one. He starts with S4 so he can wound most things he fights. Depending on House Rules having more attacks (2 hand weapons, a sword or club and his free dagger) is better. A helmet--this is an oft repeated mistake. A helmet only protects a model against being stunned. A vampire may not be stunned, so giving one a helmet is a waste of resources. A helmet for a dreg is a good investment, but helmets are also something that show up for free from time to time. Light Armor for the necromancer. A necromancer can wear armor he just can't cast spells while wearing it unless he has the appropriate skill (Warrior Wizard). Getting the skill warrior wizard is a waste of a skill unless the necromancer already has a great spell, but its generally the last thing to get, because armor in general and light armor specifically is a waste of resources if you are playing with the rules as written. If not then it might not be depending on your house rules. You have made the same mistakes we all made at one time or another, but now with the internet I can tell you not to make them in a game before you play. I just played lots of games and got beat as I learned. | |

| Well then my good Sir,
Thank you for the advice and I do appreciate your willingness to play all those games and give me/us a heads up as towards what works and doesn't work. I will retool the list now that I have read your response and see what I can come up with. My inclination will be to go with something a little quicker then while still having some Zombies in for "FLuFF"
Thanks again and stay tuned

| OK - after some thought and readjustments this is my next attempt to come up with a list that will allow some variety and fluffy flexibility to my undead gang,... LOL - I just hope Rigor Mortus hasn't set in as that would be a bad thing. Any Way - Da List Vamp w/ 2Handed Weapon, Heavy Armor & Bow Necro w/ Bow Dreg w/ Bow 2x Dregs w/ Sword & Sheild 2x Dire WolvesGHouL2x ZombiesSo this build allows for all hero slots to be used and still carries the undead fluff I wanted,.... Thoughts? | |

| also you still have the doublehanded weapon on the vampire. I'd also strongly commend you to skip that until you can give him strongman. Vampires have high I and already 2 Attacks and S4. So you want him to hit FIRST btw. I like to give a halberd to the vampire until strongman. two attacks at S5 is quite pretty to start with... and he thus still strikes first against most opponents (maybe apart from skaven)... if you drop the heavy armor (which makes sense without houserules), you could buy another ghoul. they make great heroes. and if you have 2 you double the chance of getting a sixth hero, which you want to achieve as quickly as possible, as heroes mean money | |

I know that there will be 3x Reiklander Gangs in our campaign as well, thus alot of shooting at yours truly. If I do opt to drop the 2 handed weapon from the vamp that could allow for the other Ghoul or,.... do I get it to where I can have another Direwolf for the speed - Again - your comments are apprecoated.
