How to use green stuff ??

Well..

I'd like to modify some miniatures, I'd even like to carve some ( I've a photographic memory and what I see is cool).
But I have no talent for those kind of things. I s*ck at hand works.

I mean ? Where do you start ? What do you use as tools ? How many years of tries and failure before getting something ''decent'' ?

Is there any hopes for me ?

Tools? I've asked some to my dentist...but theoneiuse the most is gw's sculpting tool.

How could you start sculpting? Asking, reading, looking for tutorials in internet...and trying...trying...trying.
This is my fifteenth year of hobby. I've started sculpring little details from the beginning but it's only few years i'm trying with sculptures from zero. What's my level? Just look my works in this section and decide.

Oh...don't forgetto buy a whole "jar of patience"...the most important tool you could have.

I would suggest a few basic things to get started:

1. Just do it. Don't be afraid of ruining models. Do it on ones you are a bit less concerned about first. It is way easier to add stuff to a model than to scratch sculpt. It takes a lot of practice and patience to use.

2. Use a lubricant. Spit (from your mouth) will help to stop your tools from sticking. Different people use different things. I use chap stick and wash it off in between layers.

3. Only mix small amounts of greenstuff at a time. It cures fairly fast and you don't need much.

4. Wash your hands after mixing it as it will irritate your skin a bit and can dry it out.


I would suggest starting with some easy things like making cobblestone bases or adding hoods, pouches, armour, etc. to a model. Show us what you get done and we can give you tips and ideas to keep progressing.

When you're trying to scultp something look at real life examples first before diving in.
There's also plenty of tutorials around the interwebz
