Battle for the treasures of the undead ship Empty
PostSubject: Battle for the treasures of the undead ship   Battle for the treasures of the undead ship Icon_minitimeSun 26 Aug 2012 - 16:16

Yesterday i played the second game of our campaign with my two nephews.

The contestants were:

A pistol heavy pirate warband

A Bowmen heavy Brettonian warband and last but not least

The Slayer pirates.

In the first game the three warbands met in a wyrdstone hunt scenario and met some zombies at this battle. After the battle the leaders heard some rumors about a huge ship in the port of Mordheim, which came in the night. Nobody has seen a crew member and it is rumored that huge treasures can be found.

The aim of this mission was to get to the undead ship, and to capture most of the three treasure chests on the ship and bring them a) from the map or b) capture then, bring them off the ship and hold them until round ten is finished. After round ten the ship leaves the port and everybody on board flees from the ship The winner was the warband with the most captured treasures. In a tie the warband wins which was the first warband on the ship.

Battle for the treasures of the undead ship SDC17728

What the leaders did not know is that the ship is a trap. After the turn, when the first player touches the ship immediatly roll each for the three hatches on the ship. On a 4+ an opponent appears:

Roll again: 1-3: It is a zombie
4: It is a ghoul

Battle for the treasures of the undead ship SDC17733

5:roll again 1-3 it is a death wolf or 4-6 a wight hero

6: roll again, 1-2 it is the vampire captain, 3-4 the necromancer with two spells, 5-6 it is the hired ogre

Battle for the treasures of the undead ship SDC17732

The winner of the positioning roll choose the middel position with the hill and the direct route to the ship. He also had the superior range combat position.

The slayer pirates came second ans chose the right flank with a row boat as alterrnative route

Battle for the treasures of the undead ship SDC17729

The pirates went over the left flank (there was also a raft) and shot back at the Bretonnians with ther handgun and swiverl gun.

Finally the three warbands met at the ship. The first undead which appeared were the pirate captain and a death wolf. So the Bretonnian lost its brave bowmen due to the attak of these evil undeads

Battle for the treasures of the undead ship SDC17735

The first treasure was secured by the pirates who used the raft climbed on board and threw the first treasure down on the raft and went off the map. In meantime he lost some members due to the range combat of the brettonians and one pistol shot of the slayer captain. And finally he routed with his first test

The Bretonnians never got hold on the ship, they were driven back two times by the undead vampire captain and started to rout early, but they were able to stay on baord until round 9. The slayers boarded the ship in round 6 and were able to get a hold on ship and to throe two tresures off board on their row boat. The also killed several zombies two ghould the, two death wolves the vampire an the ogre and lost the master gunner in these fights.

It was a good day for the slayers who won the fight with two captured chests. Unfortunately the master gunner Malakai with his double barreled blunderbus found his doom in the ogre.

The captured treasure and the found wyrd stone nearly was enough to hire an new master gunner with blunderbus.

The pirates lost two members which they also were able to replace.

The Bretonnains did not loose any fighter and were able to increase their warband.

Great battle, which hopefully infected my two nephews more with the Mordheim virus.

Oh WOWZA! SerialMoM, my good friend, I am so going to steal this sceanrio idea! Playtable never brings out the BIG ships anymore and I've been dithering around trying to write a scenario for the undead pirates Deafnala sent me. Problem solved.

Lovely table useful for SO many settings. I hope your nephews had a great time.

Thanks, i am very happy that you like it.

We really had a great time, with this scenario.

It forces you to move forward, you have to play it offensively or you lose.

You can win although you routed before. And you only get the treasure if you captured it ( no last man standing gets all the goodies)

Important is the distance to the ship.

Each warband was around 30" away.

Have fun.

Did you take more photos of the table? It looks like a great set up.

I'm thinking of a high seas version where our heroes come upon a drifting hulk... Maybe by the light of the Karibbean moon.

The Flying Dutchman is so big you can have a really good fight aboard it.

Unfortunately i showed already the best pictures, i made a lot of blurry ones.

On the bottom and botom left of the first picture we had one or two more ruins and some dead trees.

I can image that a high sea version would also work, but you need a round limit that everyone is really motivated to enter the wreck as fast as possible.

One mor hint. Our undeads appeared and attacked immediately. So also a zombie or ghoul was quite dangerous.

like the scenario a lot.
Question with the "trap"
Do the undead roll to show up every time some one new shows up on the boat or is it every turn regardless if anyone is on the ship?

Also were the Brettonian's Chapel Guard or normal?

The Undead show up immediately after the first victim entered the ship and then every turn. These spawn in the later rounds are then independent, if anyone is on board or not.(For example the first victim went OOA and nobody boards the ship in the next rounds, the undead will appear nevertheless)
I hope this makes it clear now.

The Brettonians were the normal ones, my nephew wanted them. I like the chapel guard much more of course.
