| I'm thinking like the kinds I see in medieval French towns. Mostly stone, stone and timber. I want to stay away from half timbered tudor style, just because I've done it so much already. Just because of the sixe restrictions on the island, they will end up being tall and skinny. I think I'm going to have to build at least one with an interior, just to get the dimensions right. Maybe all of them, who knows. That's a ton of work. However, each building will have to be removable from it's foundations, just because the project can't be any taller than the door to this room is wide. Which is 28 inches. I'm thinking of having all of the buildings mount to foundations with magnets. | |

| Ah, cool. That makes sense. I like the way you push yourself to try new grounds (literally), so yes, new style makes sense for this new project. If you make detachable buildings, how are you going to make them realistic in terms of having clutter around them when you do put them on the board? When you did your Dunbrough board, all the buildings were based, which helped having clutter and vegetation around them. How with that work with Gripenhem houses?

| I'm going to be keeping the first two or three rows of blocks on the island, and make everything above detached. So I should still be able to detail the base. These won't be individually based like I did before. The limit of individual basing is that it's tough to get the buildings really close or touching, which they would have to be on an island of this size. | |

OK, getting the best of both worlds then. Good stuff! - theomar pius wrote:

That's true. I'm having the same issues with my town buildings and respective bases. Your solution seems to be the most adequate for this scenario. Joao

| Thanks for the shots of your progress. I really like the level of detail on the gate.
I also like the idea of a date as part of a signing a project. I used to do that with minis, but after a hundred or so I no longer cared. Right now I'm refurbishing some old buildings and it would be nice to know when I started them at least...

| Hi there!. I put this post in your topic in there https://boringmordheimforum.forumieren.com/t6313p125-the-city-of-dunbrough. But what I didn't know there is a whole section of this forum hidden for non registered users . I was watching this site for few months now, and I finally decided to sign up myself. yesterday I spend quite few hours just reading and watching part of this site that are now available to me. I decided to re post my questions in here, well its after all WIP section. OK this is my original post: First of all, your work is amazing. I kept couple (well most of them to be honest :)of your pictures on my HDD for future inspiration, and I hope you don't mind . When I saw how much do you use grass, bushes, shrubs etc. and how all that adds "life" to a terrain piece I said to my self - this is something that I can copy into my terrain. So now I in the process of updating my my creations. I have some question. Please if you're still here can u explain to me, how did you make this shrubs? I have marked them on your pictures. More specifically what did you use? Is this made by you or can you buy them somewhere? Second question is about this. On this pic this looks so real. I have tried different techniques, but your is best I ever seen. How did you make them, what material did you use? | |

| Cool, I'm glad you decided to join! Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I've been out of town. The shrubs in the first two pics are Woodland Scenics fine leaf foliage. Usually in a package of this stuff you can get a few good saplings, and a few good bushes, but a bit of waste too. The detail is really good though, so it's worth the price.
The vines and ivy are made from Woodland Scenics foliage, which you can twist into vines, spread really thin for ivy. It's also the stuff used as the canopy on those taller trees in those pics.

| I've been taking a bit of a break from Gripenhem for a while, but I think I might be coming back pretty soon. Too many rocks to carve to make it fun, but I've got some ideas. Now all I need is freetime:scratch: | |

| Ok, so yeah, Gripenhem. The main gate is mostly done for now. It will get a roof once the surrounding buildings come into play, but I can’t put a roof on until after paint anyhow. I’ve been holding off on Gripenhem for a while. It’s just countless hours of carving rocks and cliffs, and was just getting burned out. Plus I was taking some time to work on some airplane models, flying RC, and going on vacation. I’ve also been coming to the realization that the base I made for this project really isn’t going to be big enough. It will probably need to be 8-12 inches wider, if I want to detail the river banks. So yeah, that’ll be coming too. Pretty happy with the gate so far though. | |

| And more Gripenhem! While on vacation, I sketched out some ideas for the church, and think I’ve got it all figured out. I picked up this cardboard bauble last winter, and figured it would make a cool onion dome church. I’ve been struggling with how to come up with something original, but man, onion domes are weird. So I figure I’ll make it from the top down, rather than the bottom up. I’ll also add one of the world famous juice lids, which are just dying to be put into some terrain bits. Will probably make an 8 sided tower, lots of stained glass, towering over the rest of the city. | |

| Welcome back, man. The main gate is looking beautiful!
You're pushing yourself forwards with the onion dome idea. That seems very challenging, so I;ll be paying close attention and see what you come up with.
Love the use of the lid. I hadn't noticed the arches adorning the rim. Definitely will look into a way of using lids myself in the future.

| The Spire is a thing of BEAUTY...a lovely, graceful, & exotic structure. GREAT WORK! However, from my biased view point, using one of Confrontation's Fiannas as an ornamental roof statue is wasting a classic miniature...for shame. | |

| The smaller juice lids make nice bases for statues too. That is what I did for this modified chess pawn. Still a WIP | |
