| LOOKIN' GOOD! The metalwork is EXCELLENT; the checks & the spots of red enhance & break up the large areas of armor. VERY WELL DONE...even with the base yet to be finished! | |

| To be honest, while I was painting him, I was worried because I didn't know what to do with the shield, but it just kind of fell together and I think it came out ok. No spectacular freehand but I think it works from a design perspective (which I'm supposedly trained in). Spent the day at GW again today and was able to paint this guy in about four hours (sorry for the bad lighting). He's the start of a new warband I'm working on based on the Fellowship of the Shroud, a more militant variant on the Cult of Morr. They'll be mostly purple and black with lots of skulls. I'm planning to do the black lacquered armour with gold trim look on all or at least most of them. | |

| The black armor & purple cloak fit nicely with a Servant of Morr...righteously sinister. The battle axe looks TERRIFIC...nice wood effect & metalwork. VERY WELL DONE! | |

| Looks great. Do you do anything special to get the black lacquer look? I've tried a couple of time, and I just couldn't get it to look right. | |

| Hey, so I know it's been a while, but I haven't been idle. I'm back with more conversions, paintjobs and terrain. I'll be posting it as articles on my site, The Remaining Wizards, and I'll try to throw most of the pictures into the thread here as well. CD Base Terrain - IIIThe third entry in an ongoing series, this article exhibits some of my finished CD base terrain, as well as some WIP pieces. While I do like building larger terrain sometimes, I'm a huge fan of using old CDs for terrain bases. In a previous article I describe my process with step-by-step photos. - Quote :
- Sir Gavin is a classic GW sculpt. One of the first miniatures I ever bought, he has been painted and repainted a few times over the last 12 or so years. The latest iteration has a hammer, crest, shield and a sword in scabbard added from my collection of bits.
- Quote :
- I used my usual ground texture method of mixing wood filler, wood glue, and water or thin scenic cement. On top of this I sprinkle Woodland Scenics fine ballast, but any sand or fine gravel will work. I seal it all with a mixture of wood or white glue, water or scenic cement, and brown paint. If you plan on using pre-made grass tufts, which I use in addition to patches of static grass and shrubs made from foliage, try to leave some smoother spots without gravel.
- Quote :
- I built this ruined building out of foamboard, and found it was easy to sharpen matchsticks (bought by the bagful at the dollar store) and stick them in the wall to represent broken joists and beams and that.
Check out the article for the rest. Hope you like it. Cheers, Gavin

| WELCOME BACK! You've created some VERY STRIKING minis & terrain pieces in your absence...time well spent I'd say. The Knight's shield is a particularly nice touch to a FINELY painted mini. While all the Lads are LOOKING GOOD, the Halfling Scout is my favorite. AND thanks for the review of the Perry War of the Roses minis; I had wondered how they would match up to G.W.'s stuff. I see that quite a few Folks go for the CD bases. Standard size terrain pieces is an excellent idea...they make nice little vignettes with the added bonus of being games worthy. GREAT WORK ALL AROUND! | |

| Vary nice and thank you for the review. I have been trying to figure out how to build a guy loading his Crossbow like that and have yet to figure it out so this is a good option for me.
Love the knight on the bridge.

| Thanks for the replies guys. Writing the review was an interesting challenge. I found it hard to keep an even, impartial tone when describing a kit that impressed me so much. I'm working on reviews of Warlord's Celtic Warriors kit and the Samurai and ranged Ashigaru kits from Wargames Factory, so look for those at some point in the future. Pervavita, in addition to the two-handed crank pictured above, the Perry European Mercenaries set also includes a one-handed horizontal cranequin. | |

| I posted a new article today for the warband I'm starting: Introducing Clan Deepfist of Altdorf - Quote :
- From the streets of Altdorf come a slightly unexpected group of alt-dwarves. The Deepfist clan long ago abandoned their ancestral mines and passages in the mountains and followed the smell of gold to the great city of Altdorf, where they established themselves as a mining outfit and mercenary company. Over the decades, the fortunes of the Deepfist clan have risen and fallen repeatedly, their prosperity hinging on the latest gold strike or military success. As a result, the dwarves of Clan Deepfist are gifted with a knack for thinking outside the box that deeper-dwelling clans may not.
Check out the blog post for individual character bios and many more photos. Cheers, Gavin

I would like to see more of these dwarfs, they look promising.
