Question about hired swords + misc questions Empty
PostSubject: Question about hired swords + misc questions   Question about hired swords + misc questions Icon_minitimeThu 23 Feb 2012 - 12:07

I'm playing mordheim for the first time, and thus far have played 6 games. We have incoorporated a few house rules ( mainly armour so far )

After my second game I hired the following hired swords ( I am playing a Middenheim warband )

* Beggar : for 5 gc upkeep this guy is bargain right? He's never done anything, except in the ' find the treasure' scenario he looked into buildings for the treasure. I gave him medical knowledge for his first upgrade. His second upgrade was +1 wound. I guess I could give him shield ( 5+As house rule ) and let him advance in front of a swordsmen/warrior to take that first hit from shooting?

* A wood elf ranger also was recruited after game 2. Him having played 4 games he also is at two experience levels, and has gotten two skjll increases : quick shot & heavy pull. I also bought him Hunting arrows. Now this guy is an absolute killer. Even before with only S3 bowfire he usually was good for taking out 2-3 enemy warriors per battle. Can't imagine what it will be with S4 and +1 on injury rolls.
I initially got him for his seeker ability, the doubles on income are a very fun thing. I can imagine it gets less exiting over time, but for now it's pretty sweet.
What other equipment do you guys see fit for the Ranger? A shield pherhaps? Rabbit's foot? Lucky charm? And if I'm lucky enough to get another skill increase in two games from now, what skill to choose?

Question 1) : Can I divide bowfire among two targets?

Question 2) : I have a hero with the 'moneymaker' skill : do I roll his two dice seperatly and then remove one of the two, or do I just add them to the pile of dice and discard any one from the pile?[/i]

Question 3) : Can I have the same skill twice on two different heroes/hired swords? I'm guessing so but just checking. Also can hired swords choose skills from the common skill table?

Question 4) : Can you re roll a dice result more then once? ( I'm inclined to think not )

Question 5) : Isn't an undead warband a bit boring, almoast no equipment and all? Any non overpowering way to ' fix ' this?

Question 6) : Any place here I can post my current warband? I didn't saw a sticky thread for warbands in progress at first sight.

Many thanks, and hopefully many more questions will follow.

P.S I have scanned through and read topics where I though I would see answers for my question in the first 25 pages of this forum, but It's practically impossible to get everything out of old topics.

1: Yes you can as far as I know. I can't quote any rules or think of any that don't allow it.

2: all extra dice are added to your exploration roll together and then you remove any that you need too. So yes you could roll 12 dice at once then remove 6.

3: Yes more then one hero can have the same skill(s). Also Hired Swords should list the skill list they can pull from. So it may say "shooting, speed, special"

4: no

5: Play style, some people love them for there style. I agree but it's all about taste.

6: here you will find it.

1. Only problem with this is they both have the be legal targets. So if you are above your enemies then sure. But if at same level they will probably have to go to same target. We play that you declare both shots before rolling to hit.

I have never heard of "heavy pull" before, sounds really cheesy imo =)
Also you cannot buy weapons or equipment for your hired swords afaik.

1) If the rules for who's a legal target allow it sure. We play that you declare targets first.

2) Never heard of moneymaker lol. If you're just starting out with Mordheim, I recommend mordheimer.com for warbands, rules, skills, equipment etc. Lots of the things you find elsewhere is player made, not that well tested etc and sure its fine if thats the direction you want to go after playing "original mordheim" til you're bored.

3) Yes. Hired swords can only pick from the lists specified on each hired sword entry.

4) afaik, No.

5) I have no opinion. All heroes can still have gear and thats usually where ppl go nuts with gear anyways. Its not like ghouls and zombies cant have gear on the model. They just do dont anything.

Edit: I recommend you play vanilla mordheim for starters and then form your own opinion on whats lacking and which direction you want to take it with house rules etc. Lots of ideas out there are great but its mostly player made and often lack restraint and objectivity.

Base Mordheim:

When attacking at range, you attack the nearest target. (The greatest threat.)

The exception to this is if another target is easier to hit (ie: not behind cover.)

This is in the original rulebook.

Thanks everyone!

I have those things like ' moneymaker ' from a rullesbook I found on line. I don't remember where but it was the only full book I could find after searching for a while. Maybe it's some older version? 99% of the stuff inthere resembles what people are talking about here. I did notice differences compared to mordheimer web-site. for example in ' my ' book the elf ranger starts with seeker and exellent sight.

Again thanks.

1) One more question pops to my mind : I had an archer LGT, I could have had him choose shooting as one of his two skill sets right? ( being middenheimers and all )

2) And the second question : what happens if a henchmen/hero reaches his/her full experience allowance?

He can pick shooting if one of your heroes had that list. (I don't recall off hand if middies did.)

If you hit full XP? Thank sigmar they're still alive. But then you gain no further XP.

middenheimers, ya shooting skills are not a problem as all Merc Captians start with accsess to all skill sets.
but say your playing Possessed then no shooting skills for any one as they can't get them.

at the games workshop under specialist games in Mordheim at the bottome of there side bar is "resources" you will find downloads of many offical resources, one (or rather 3) is the rule book.
here it is.

The 'Complete Rulebook' is not an official GW product nor is it meant to be. It is the compiled house rules for a gaming group posted online because they could. It is not an older edition or a newer edition of the again quote "official rules". Its just a bunch of guys who thought their rules were worth sharing. The official rules for the game of Mordheim published by GW can be found on thier website and downloaded for free as mentioned above.

If you are having fun with the Complete rules fine, but it would be a good idea to get a copy of the actual rules.

Edit: To echo a previous poster, I have no idea what is allowed by the 'Complete' rules, but under the rules most of us play by, you may not buy equipment for Hired Swords unless the HS's specific rules say you can (Imperial Assassin).
