| I am building my first ever warband, some Marienburgers. This is also my first foray into a GW-based product, so I am pretty unfamiliar as to what bits come in what boxes. Currently, I am working with:
1. Empire Militia 2. Empire Archers (I liked the bodies on these) 3. Mordheim boxset accessory sprue.
Specifically, I am looking for a couple capes (for my three main heros), some bucklers and maybe eventually some shields.
The Mordheim box has some capes and bucklers, but they have 'northman', 'wolf' designs on them. I could file/greenstuff these off I guess, but I would still like to find some other options.
Any bits ideas from you vets would be great. Thanks!

| There are some interesting capes/coats in the outriders box. The empire general set has a cape but it's modelled for a knight on horse. | |

| I'd recommend hitting ebay and searching for things like "warhammer bits" you can usually get alot of pieces for cheap. | |

| Wow, thanks for the advice--sorry for my ignorance about all things GW. I'll definitely hit up e-bay--and I may be making a sweet deal on B'town too. | |

| If you go to www.bitzbox.co.uk you can see pictures of all the bits from all of the plastic kits, and buy individual bits. | |

| My starting Marienburg warband is built, getting ready for their first foray into the madness of Mordheim (I have a game planned for Tuesday, so I am not sure how much paint they'll get by then). They will be fighting a Vampire and her undead henchmen!! I figure I will turn this thread into a WIP thing, as comments from the community usually jazz me up enough to paint. They don't have names yet, but without further ado: 11 men entered the fray: A corpulent leader: A champ, taking aim: A champ, charging forth: Youngbuck, scoping out the situation: Youngbuck, looking sort of "duh": Swordsman, fighting mad: Swordsman, just looking to shank ya: Marksman, firing away: Marksman, reloading: Marksman, with dinner!!: Marksman, with the big boomer: These were a blast to put together. I kit bashed the Empire Archers and the Militia. I found myself making excruciating choices down to the last details of facial expression, pose to personality ratio, etc. Only my heros got fluffy sleeves and feathers for their hats, the x-bowmen even have matching hats and I found the best, young dummy heads for my Youngbloods. The only converting I had to do, if you can call it that, was making a left handed pistol for my Champ. Everthing is WYSIWYG--a lot of hammers hanging from belts... I chose the archer bodies because I am going for an "emo" trenchcoat look mixed with the bright colors of Marienburg. I still have some mold lines to take care of and some GSing to do, but the look is coming together slowly... C&C is welcome, more when they get some paint on them... | |

| I love putting together Empire guys - there are so many options to choose from, you can make an endless number of fellows, all different and unique.
As Folketsfiende mentioned, the outriders box is a great place for some capes. It also has lots of pistol arms (with more slender pistols than the Empire militia/Mordheim spures).
smokezombie's recommendation of the Great Swords box is also a good one - great kit - although they are unfortunately pricey.
Your guys are coming together nicely. Good poses, and good choices for heads (both youngbloods do look young and nervous).
Fun, isn't it? | |

| Well done! Great poses, lots of character. Do remember to take care of the mould lines before painting - would be a shame if they ruined such promising minis...
My favourites are the first youngblood, the running champ, and the swordsmen.
Little tip: make an opening in the end of the barrel of the blunderbuss (excuse my limited English vocabulary), it will look alot better that way

| Yeah, I'm scraping mouldlines now. I also want to GS a little on my captain, so it looks like a shirt instead of heavy armor--not too hard. Every member of the band will also get hit with some GS, to smooth out lines between different kits. Great fun though--and thanks for the comments!
And thanks Folksfiende, for the blunderbuss tip--will do.

| very cool stuff! just promise me one thing: cover up the ridiculous "toes" on the pistol wielding champion's shoes. i dont know WHAT they were thinking when they made those models... But other than that, you have a very nice looking warband! | |

| Nice kitbashing so far. Is it possible that the arms on the two swordsmen are a little off? Especially on the first one? Other than that, I'm really looking forward to see them painted and how the armour-to-shirt conversion on your captain will look like. | |

| @Moffe: Man, thanks for pointing that out. I don't know how such a strange and ugly detail slipped by me. Consider the "toes", or whatever they are (there are only four appendages...) gone.
@Grimscull: The Swordsmen arms were both a bit off, but I didn't like where they sat otherwise. I did a little GS buildup on the shoulders and that seemed to work. I'll post some more pics in the next few days and then let me know what you think? Thanks!
@ all: Well, GSing and mouldlines are done. Primer is next, then to paint!!
In the meantime, I'm going to go get my ass kicked in Mordheim for the first time at the LGS tomorrow. Wish me luck!

| Sorry, my WIP thread has been dead for quite awhile. I have been hard at work, however--got paint on my warband, assembled and based two sets of the old cardboard terrain, I converted my buddy a Norse warband and I have been assembling and painting a couple GW plastic terrain sets. Whew! I go for a quick, tabletop + look, but even that takes so much freaking time!! It's funny how much the story of a group comes alive while one paints it. Armed with a new philosophy and some new names, may I present Captain Amerigo's Sons of Marienburg: A group shot (Captain Amerigo is at the top, waiting for some paint): The champs, Angry Nick and Samuelson: The youngbucks, Bucky and Jax Munny: The swordsmen, Dirty Drew and McGrew, aka The Feagals: X-bowmen, the Hawkeyes: 2 more marksmen, Curly Tinhat and Bart Clinton: Pit Fighter, Maxwell: | |

| I like how the brown, red and blue work together. They are Marienburger all right, but in a dirty kind of way which suits MH nicely. Still no fan of the arms on the swordmen, but maybe this is just me. | |

| That's a fine looking gang! If you want a brighter appearance, some highlighting on the cloth might be the way to go, but they do look good the way they are. Well done! Post some pics of the captain when he's finished, I think that's a wonderful mini... | |

| A FINE LOOKING Gang of Ne'er-do-wells! The subdued colors don't quite fit with my view of Marienburgers, but that's just my like of things garish chiming in...subdued is the current chic in minis. The brown shades are really well done & make the areas of brighter colors stand out. VERY NICELY DONE! | |
