| Ohoy!
So, anyone here knows if the warbands Sorcerous Society and Mage Warband ever had any relation to GW in any way, form or shape? Or are the warband rules fan made?
And... the second question is, anyone here that have ever tried to play them? I have a awakening interest to try out the Sorcerous Society.

| They are all fan made.
There is one for the Khemri setting that appeared in one of our Khemri campaigns. It fit there as far as I could tell. I believe there are others including one or two that have been proposed in this forum since I joined.

| I've played against several different people who had Sorcerous Society warbands. I think it is a great warband and lots of fun.
I don't have any experience playing with or against the Mage warband (I don't know if I've even heard of it before).

| GW Affiliated: I'm sad to say, other than the core rulebook, there are very few warbands that really ARE GW official. My local GW shop, for example, refuses to play with any of the warbands from Town Cryer (many of which are considered "canon" by fans and people on this site.) Mage warband: http://grafixgibs.tripod.com/Khemri/mages.htmby the makers of Khemri. Khemri is a "semi-GW-accepted" supplement... however, the Mage warband wasn't one of the warbands they recognized or printed (I don't know if was balance or space.) Sorcerous Society: Released in Letters of the Damned, Brahm's fanzine http://tabletopgeeks.com/wp-content/downloads/supplements/LOD4.pdfBrahm cowrote the warband, claiming it "a balance/update" of the Khemri mage band. That was his opinion, however, so take with a grain of salt. (I haven't played any of his bands, but they always look balanced on paper, and he's a nice guy to boot.) If you like magical warbands, keep your eyes on the "Storm of Magic" threads I've been working on... I'm nearly done with it, and will post rules to a Storm of Magic campaign, overflowing with monsters, fulcrums, and alternative spell lists. | |

| I have played a Sorcerous society warband, and I think it's well balanced. You get three magicians from start, but the warband as a whole is weak in cc, and average in normal ranged combat. | |

| It seems like the warband will perform a bit like I thought it would do. Hmm, I just ordered miniatures for a full Sorcerous Society Warband from Freebooter Miniatures, so they just better be fun - Quote :

Now that is just crap, but alas, its nothing new. In our GW shop there is a girl who is trying to tell me about what to play and not, and I just told her that I had played GW games since before she was borne, that sort of put a lid on things. But... one got to remember that they are employees, and have to follow rules and regulations stipulated by their company, it is seldom their own oppinion. On the contrary, I find that most of the guys that I know from GW are just as open minded as the rest of us, and play several other games in private. When it comes to no allowing TC Warbands, that is silly, truelly silly. It really doesnt need to be a lengthy discussion, its just silly I am looking forward to both painting, building and playing with this warband when I have the miniautures. However I have a few other projects in the pipe that needs some attention. But... thats miniature wargaming for ya, new ideas and new miniatures... new projects and... the loop continues, but its something that I enjoy, so I will just keep spinning that wheel

You're a real people person, easing the mood like that! In fact, whenever I tell the employees there about my ongoing Necromunda or Mordheim projects, they're interested, so it's just gw store policy... Good luck with your sorcerers! Give me a call for an in-depth strategy discussion!

| Ah well, most of the guys in our local GW store are really nice people, and I even used to share an appartment with one of them before. Some of them are about to join our gaming club, and will perhaps join us for Mordheim and whatnot, however as allways, there will allways be one rotten apple in the basket. I am so happy with the miniatures that I got for my upcoming warband, and I have allready made commission arrangements for them as well. With that in mind I have 4 warbands forming and one new fantasy battle army, fantastic! | |

| Sorry for the tread necromancy... but I am looking to start a Sorcerous Soiety warband and I have a few questions.
Familiars: can you take multiple copies of the same Familiar in your warband? For example: give all your Wizards a Dog Familiar?
Cat Familiar: the text reads: "If both attacks successfully wounnd..." - But a Cat Familiar has only one attack? Does it mean "both the Cat Familiar's Attack and the attack from Wizard it's connected to"?
Mind Focus (TC 7/2002): "When using a spell or prayer the warrior with this skill may re-roll one dice used in the difficulty roll". - Does this mean you get to re-roll both dice? Or does it mean you can pick one of both dice and re-roll just that one dice?

The cat has two attacks according to LOTD4. Mind focus: you get to reroll one die, which is ace - keep the better one and blast your enemies!

The Cat Familiar must be a typo, my pdf copy has only one attack listed. Yep, folketsfiende answered everything as I would. I recall that there was a typo with the Attack characteristic for the Cat originally. It definitely has 2 Attacks. I don't know where you can find LotD now. It was originally found on Red Claw Gaming but I'm not sure if it is still there. It is too big to email unfortunately (LotD4 Lite is 14MB).
