Marienburg - City of Islands, Bridges & Secret Deals

ow, excellent looking bridges indeed! though, are they different heights? that's gonna mean quite the intricate system of roads and bridges! nice!

Currently I'm facing a similar problem, so I'm anxious to see what you'll come up with to rule out the different level problem when connecting bridges...

and of course I want to see a whole bunch of islands soon!

@Ezekiel - Gotta have some 1" and 2" deep bridges to match up with the set of island foundations I'm running with. It all lines up pretty flush after I bumped a few items up with foam-card/plasti-card. I haven't laid it all out yet! Was thinking it would be fun to reserve that activity for when I have my gaming buddies around. Hopefully this will top laying out scalextric for fun-factor.

@Phreck - The 'dry' board sections are modular blocks. Meaning canal width is variable to account for watercraft of all sizes sir! You'll need a fairly narrow boat like a skiff to ferry warriors moving contraband under any of my bridge. These have been designed to create winding networks where you might locate private lagoons ideal for smuggling! 1.5" wide boats will navigate hidden back channels while 2.5-3" wide vessels are also being accommodated for in Core Scenarios. Forums pals are welcome to sail or swim over, roll dice, row boats, swing cutlasses, hurl belaying pins, drink rum or Albion whiskey.

@Deafnala - Pretty clueless about your thread-protocol matey. I started off by posting a sneak peek at the finished terrain board and decided to work my way back through everything I've already been working on before arriving at the checkered flag.

This was intended to be a 'WIP + Finished Works' thread. To that effect I was copying what Cianty did with his BTB terrain.

I could post more completed work now but that seemingly defeats the object of the retrospective joyride! Saying that I might have to show you guys a completed bridge or something now that I've explained my warp-tainted way of thinking.

You will call this stringing it out! I call it building anticipation.

@werekin: There's no problem leaving the Thread here if you'd prefer. It has been my observation, however, that W.I.P. pieces in the Scenery Section tends to draw greater attention than the Gallery; I guess most of us like to pick up "how to do" ideas more than seeing finished pieces...strange but true.
If you'd like it moved ,say the word; otherwise, I'll leave it here.

That said, I'm really looking forward to seeing how your islands tie together. Your work thus far is both impressively done & very creative. Keep up the FINE WORK!

EXCELLENT fog effect in the photos...the muted images almost hide what a FINE job you did on the bridge. WELL DONE!

I can relate. Although it's been fairly cooperative of late, my Camera of Continuous Contrariness normally produces photos of ASTOUNDING MEDIOCRITY. You have my sympathy...for whatever that's worth.

well, besides a kickass camera, maybe try a bit more light from different sides, so you've got a bit of global lights, keep your camera at a bit of a distance and zoom in to the details.
if you've got a fancy enough camera, set the iso low to prevent rastering, and try to keep your shutter time as low as possible (though low iso prevents low shutter time, and vice versa)
a bit of experimenting, and you're good... otherwise, just photoshop the whole city, and we'll still be in awe! haha

... Compensating for less than optimal lighting with longer exposure times (which are often necessary, as Ezekiel pointed out), on the other hand, gets infinitely and unbelievably easier by using a small tripod or other means of stabilisation (just placing the camera on the table, for example), and using the self-timer function, so the camera does not jerk (blurring the picture) like it does when you press the release manually.

The self-timer also helps with cell-phone pictures (which often do not tell you how long of an exposure time to expect), if you manage to stabilise the phone itself somehow.

I don't care a squit for photography. Luckily one of my best mates is a professional. He took a few shots for the BTB annual. I will get him round shortly as I need some ecclesiastical shots in relation to an imminent article release...

@Deafnala - LoL mate. Rolling fog, coming in off the Reik Estuary. If only that was the plan... I just hold steady and click the button.

Again, I shall leave the matter of lighting etc to the professionals while I concentrate on dry-brushing brickwork and maintaining as much mastery of the lore as I can muster!

You can't, because you wouldn't pay. And no rich sucker contacted us to celebrate all things border-like through an hard copy release. Not yet anyway.

Have you checked any print on demand options? Might be workable without getting any rich suckers involved

Unless we can pay for the print production and give them away for free then for legal reasons we cannot be producing hard copies. Hopefully everyone is happy to make do with printable PDF versions because I don't buy lottery tickets.

As I am about to spend part of my Easter holiday getting some varnish on all the Marienburg terrain cluttering my front room, I remembered that photography is better during daylight hours. It is daytime, I am not at work. Here is a sneaky peek at some of the finished components from my set-up.



Damn, I really want to lay all the stuff out on my polyester sea-board. Varnish time first! Don't want all my terrain getting beaten to sh!t.
