| Hi .. im just getting into mordheim and Im already a bit stuck on the rules ... my question is..
when you buy henchmen you have to buy them in groups yes? .. does this mean that later on you can never add a henchman to that group as the experience levels would be different! also can you only have one group of each henchmen type ? or is multiple groups of one type of henchman type ok? .. if so could you effectivly split all of the same type of your henchmen individually into thier own single groups? im confused :(
heh thanks in advance

| Hi, henchmen are bought in groups of 1-5. You can have more than one group of the same henchmen but for some warbands therer is a limit on the total number of henchmmen of a certain type. For example an Undead warband can have any number of zombies but only 5 dire wolves. If you had dire wolves, you coudl split them into any groupings you liekd so long as you had no more than 5 of them (e.g. 5 groups of one; a group of 2 and a group of 3). See pages 64 and 65 in the rulebook. Henchmen are often split into small groups to allow them separate advance rolls and to increase the chance of rolling "the lad's got talent". That doesn't apply to dire wolves or zombies since neither can earn experience! You can add new hencmen to a group that has already earned experience but you must roll to see if you can recruit them and must pay 2 gc for every experience point they have. See page 144 in the rulebook. | |

| Everything Wyrdstone Davesaid is 100% correct. Sometimes there are advantages to stacking henchmen into groups, and/or splitting them-up as much as possible. I can tell you that I personally try to keep as many henchmen in the same group as possible. There is nothing that bogs a game down more then when you are trying to figure-out which group that henchman belongs to. In the game I am playing now I had 2 henchment groups that have maxed-out and only have 1 guy each. Most of their upgrades were the same, but sometimes it can get confusing when you are trying to figure-out which group they are with. | |

| If they can earn advances, then I split them initially. Later, after the first advance, I start buying clones of some henchmen. Generally I am familiar enough with my models that I don't have to pause before knowing who is who. When that is a problem - say, with ghouls - I simply put those little label colored dots on their stands. | |

| You're right there are pages missing form the pdfs from the GW site. I hadn't noticed! Does anyone have a link to the whole rulebook? If not I'm happy to send you the missing pages. | |

| The GW U.S. site, under "Mordheim Resources", has the rulebook broken down into three separate PDF files. I won't swear it is complete, but I think it probably is. It has the rules referenced above - but with very different pagination.
Rules on henchmen groups: Part 2 (warbands), pp. 2-3.
Adding new henchmen to an existing group: Part 3 (campaigns), p. 102
Hope that helps. By the way - although I love my well-thumbed copies of the rules, the pdfs contain a fair number of corrections and rules revisions, and are thus more up-to-date. | |
