The Road to Riches

So I was going trough my bitz-boxes and thinking about all the different kinds of models I wanted to do but couldn't fit into a warband when ideas started to fall into place: The merchant caravan!

Among other things this would finaly let me make a wagon and put it to good use, also i've always enjoyed thoose little interludes between scenarios were you buy and sell and try to make a buck. This will be perfect, I thought and started planing things out. So far not much has happened (But I only made the deccison three or four days ago =)

First of all i decided I wanted a short, fat merchant with fancy clothes. I looked at the new one GW made, but he looked to useless so I figured I'd have to do him from scratch. I also decided I'd use the black guard henchmen to represent hired Norsemen, as this would let me use a couple of minitures I've already started working on (also, I like Norse =). So far, this is what I got:





The merchant will mostly be sculpted in greenstuff, with a few bits here and there.

The finished Norse is a pit fighter body with a marauder head and militia arms. The other one is based on a catachan jungle fighter (head, torso, legs and arms) with militia hands and weapon. The cloak and hair is green stuff. These guys were going to be the start of a Norse Gang, but I couldn't come up with any more model ideas I realy liked, so the ended up on in the "to be continued" pile. I'm glad they'll be able to get some use atlest. And prehaps later, they will indead form their own warband =)

Nice! The bits for the merchant look very suitable.

Whoo! more merchants! great pick! I love playing them, though beware of the vulnerability of your cart... and do not hesitate to load it with marksmen!

I love the idea of a short fat merchant, looking forward to it's result.

Very cool models so far... the merchant looks really good so far (and short), great idea.

The blackguard is also very nice, my favorite is the one with the pit fighter body, love his pose...

Yes, the plan was to make him alot in the style of Conan the Barbarian when I started on him. Though I might make him blonde instead =)

He's a right out of the box Empire Wizard, I just like that box so much I don't feel I need to change anything =)

I have to decide wether or not to give him a beard and weather or not to give him a bigger hat. I'll try to model a puffy sleave on his right arm, but if that don't work plan B is to model a cloak on him that hangs over that arm covering it.

Apprentice is looking good. Will you give him any weapon? Seems he'll be easy pickings otherwise...

I agree wholeheartedly concerning the wizard and the magical box he came out of.

The merchant: no beard! That face is such a nice sculpt. A bigger hat is a must though, to protect from sun, rain or hail.

Keep your tempo up! I just finished the first ogre for my sons Maneaters. Race ya to the finish!

Well, I WAS gonna claim he had a sword and a pistol under his cloak. But I suppose that will only get people to shout WYSIWYG at me ;)
I suppose I'll have to see about adding SOMETHING to give him an "edge" =)

I'd say "you're on" but I still have six or seven models that needs to be done (apart from finishing the ones above) and you only have to make another three or so =)

The Apprentice is a GREAT looking mini. You could just have the tip of a scabbard poking out from the cloak o represent the sword.; pistols are in the"real World" considered concealed weapons...SO, it's concealed.
The Wizard is COOL...the Wizard Kit offers SO MANY possibilities.
AND the Merchant is coming along nicely. FINE PIECES, ALL!

Alas, the neighbour I've been borrowing internet from is coming home sone, so updates will become a bit more eratic. On the plus side, i should have so much more to show when I finaly do update

I thought long and hard about using thoose models. But in the end I decided that's not the kind of merchant I want

I might still make use of them for a futre norse warband, though.

Love the knights - great use of bitz, apprenitce looks great so far, dont worry about WYSIWYG - my merchant and apprentice (the models) dont got weapons.

The merchant is comming along nicely - love the short look (that he is about as tall as his pistol just makes him a real warhammer/mordheim model)
