Not 'arf! 7 out-of-actions including the Kommodore himself, luckily I ended up with just 2 dead Henchmen. Not enough cash from exploration to replace both though! So just one new, inexperienced, Orc Boy hired. - Von Kurst wrote:

I believe they were part of Le Sanglier's crew who deserted a few years ago (they were from Chanlons, rather than Stirland). From Outlaws in Bretonnia to Outlaws in Sartosa. Maid Marion is by far the best archer in the band. I wouldn't be surprised if she took over leadership soon!

| Outlaws iz outlaws iz fact. Don't matter where they from. Always shooting things full of arrows. Complaining about the 'repression inherent in the system' and such. Our lot have scuttled their ship and hang out in the Osso Hills when not robbing Sartosa. Make the wolves nervous. | |

| Taking advantage of honest pirates! Never doing a hard day's sailing in their lives. Lubbers! Marion is a funny character now though - she has Toughness 1 but 2 Wounds, Ballistic Skill 2 but ALL the shooting skills. Zelophahad is keeping a tally of the OOA results scored through shooting, with the stated aim of Russel the Crow getting the most, but Marion is top of the list by far! | |

| Characters like Marion are why I love the game. My best fighter last campaign was T1. Al Bobo couldn't take a hit but he could dish them out!
Have a pint on me mate! | |

| They'll be back, don't worry! I got lured into an online campaign (Treachery and Greed) where Pirates were more appropriate than Witch Hunters. It ends soonish (I think) and I'll get back to hunting them damned Witches! Under Lock & Quay is a very open-ended campaign and a few of us are playing with more than one warband (Dave is using Vampires and the Watch, Phil is using the Merrie Men and is about to switch to the Cave Orcs, the others have made multi-warband noises to). There isn't going to be a "winner" so there is no need to work hard on building one warband! | |

| That sounds like a FINE way to game. It's rather like a story that has no definite beginning or end; it just grows with the telling. PLUS it is a campaign that appeals to the modeler/painter in moi,,,there's no limit to the new ides that can be explored. Have FUN with the idea; I, for one, will enjoy following the developments. | |

| Quite so! We've had a few quite competitive campaigns lately and while they are fun, they aren't really what any of us are about. The Pit Fighting sub-campaign fills that quota well enough that we can ignore it for the rest of the time.

| 12th October, the year ten Running the BlockadeBreakthrough at the Barrel of Monkeys ~~~ Seagull squawking echoed overhead as the crew of the Ogresun hunched behind the deteriorated walls of the old graveyard. The Kommodore opened his telescope and rested it on the lichen covered stone. “I can see them blasted Merrie Men lurking all over: Up in that prison tower, the Hole in the Wall Inn and right down the far of the street on the walk-ways. They looks like they knows we was coming.” He snapped the spyglass shut with annoyance. He sat down with his back to the wall and looked at the Orcs and Goblins around him while he thought. “Roight. Dredger and the Kabin Grotz come with me along their east flank. Mr Nog – you take everyone else head round the west flank. Stay low and run fast. Don’t hang around to shot at the lubbers, just keep going.” ~~~ Arrows rained down around them as they ran, most skittered off the cobbles or thudded into timbers rather than hitting their mark but enough were fired that it didn’t matter. The pirate’s numbers were whittled down steadily. Dredger and the Kommodore both fell with minor wounds inflicted by Will Écarlate’s cruelly accurate bow, Whalebelly the Ogre was injured and carried on running with arrows protruding from his sun-browned hide. Wyrdtoof and Scupper Lug raced up the broken side of the Hole in the Wall Inn and charged the Merrie men hiding there. The Shaman infused his staff with Waaagh! energy and a flickering green fire surrounded it, as he swing the skull-topped totem a trail of ghostly energy was left in its wake. The tough old git waded through the Outlaws with no thought of his own safety! The massive weight of fire that the Merrie Men could lay down was enough to halt the Ogresuns’ advance and the Kommodore was livid. They had missed last orders at the Barrel of Monkey from that day forward Deffgit hated Will Écarlate with a real delight. | |

The first winter clouds were massing over Vercuso and the Hold Rats were returning to their lair. Skrikit and Izkit were weighing a couple of shards in their paws while approaching the prison tower.
Suddenly, by the other side of the building a halt was shouted. A Watch patrol, returning to their headquarter with some confiscated stolen gooods was approaching.
"Quick-quick, get them and bring me their shiny-shiny stuff!" ordered Skrikit. The Hold Rats spread around the prison tower in a two pronged attack. Graar charged the Watch ogre and the two brutes started trading blows.
From his vantage point on the Hole in the Wall Inn terrace, Scheech aimed his new bow at the Watch captain and the man-thing fell, a long arrow protuding from his back. At the same time Srikit was taken down by a couple of bobbies.
The man-things cheers quickly turned into a fearful wisper as they saw Graar knocking the Ogre off and turning growling at them. With more deadly arrows raining down on them, the man-things dropped the goods, grabbed the wounded and retreated into the safety of the Prison Tower.
~~~
Later that day, Skrikit treated his gang to a visit to the Lock and Quay Inn. A couple of Verminkin placed some well chosen bet and the Assassin was quick in claiming the prizes for him.
With the morning loot they made up for enough money to purchase a few giant rats and some new equipment.
Skrikit sneered as he pictured himself ruling over Vercuso.
| Die Chronik der NachtJägerNight of the Swarm12th November, the year Ten In a Skirmish at Wrecker's Point, the NachtJägers hold off the Hold Rats with a barrage of crossbow fire and a little holy fire. ~~~ In the darkness a cold mist swirled through the narrow alleys of the houses surrounding the ship yards. Kaptain Fängmorder sent half his warband up into the Hole in the Wall Inn and took the other half down Silk Street towards the Gunsmith’s Workshop. Something was up ahead, something with clawed feet and beady black eyes that glinted red in the night. “Ready for the abominations to come, we must be!” growled the Kaptain “The creatures will be fast and nimble. Make sure of your target and make your shots count.” A horde of Skaven came teeming down the narrow street - there seemed to be no end to them! Rat-things of all sizes flooded down the cobbled street, a squealing blanket of rats cover the ground ahead of them and a great lumbering Rat-Ogre followed behind. The Orcs steadied their crossbows against walls and window frames as Fängmorder raised his hand. As the Skaven host came into view through the fog he dropped his hand and the Witch Hunters fired a concentrated volley. They hurried to re-load as the Skaven kept on coming – Grimmig ran on ahead and crouched next to the Pie Shop, he closed his eyes as focused his energies… when he opened his eyes again a searing blast of green fire tore into the Rat-Ogre just as three crossbow bolts found their mark in his iron-hard flesh. The beast stumbled and half-fell. It scrabbled into the meager cover afforded by one of the hovels of the Shambles. With the giant creature out of their sights the Orcs turned to Skaven targets. The group in the high balcony of the Hole in the Wall pelted the Skaven Assassin (who went down), while those on ground-level engaged Giant Rats and Verminkin. A few rats attacked Grimmig but the Shaman-Warrior-Priest held them off for long enough that Zealot Wütend was able to come to his aid. The pair were able to quickly dispatch the vermin. Another rat attacked Zealot Folterknecht but the poor shooting (aimed at Finster, behind him) of the Skaven Verminkin actually dealt with that for him! The casualties soon mounted and the Black Skaven realised that things were not going well. He called on the Hold Rats to fall back and they left the NachtJägers in control of the Gunsmith’s Workshop and its hidden riches. ~~~
Rumors of a stash of jewels and other goods somewhere at Wrecker's Point had lured the Hold Rats to the infamous neighborhood.
While the Skaven were searching the buildings a loud, guttural and almost inintelligible cry was heard. The Templars of Sigmork were back in town and they were trying to put blasfemy and ratmen into a single sentence, although not with much success.
"Stupid-stupid green-things! They'll call in the man-things! Get them, quick-quick!" Skrikit order was rapidly obeyed and the Hold Rats darted forward.
In a rather un-orcy fashion, the Templars of Sigmork not only stayed were they were without much quarreling, but they also rained a few well aimed quarrels and fireballs at the advancing Skaven.
Skrkit was uncoscious on the ground, Graar was cowering in a corner putting the last green flames out and a good score of rats was skewered and ready for the orcs' dinner.
Meanwhile, Squeech had located the stash in a ruined house once belonging to a merchant. With so much stuff to give Skrikit, he felt safe from the Assassin's retribution and turned tail. The rest of the Hold Rats recognised the wisdom of the Black Skaven and followed suit.
Later that day, Skrikit paid a visit to the nefarious Luciano Malatesta and secured his services along with a precious relic the warlock had recovered from a cursed temple.
| Die Chronik der NachtJägerNight of the Hunted 18th November, the year Ten In a chance encounter with the Hold Rats, on the streets of Ragil, the NachtJägers suffered a crushing blow. ~~~ “There is something here, something… unnatural” said Grimmig “be on your guard.” Unseasonable snow silently fell in the cold evening air as the Orc Witch Hunters walked cautiously, with crossbows at the ready, through the empty streets of Vercuso’s neighbouring town. Rumours of foul magicks being practiced openly had brought the NachtJägers to Ragil and there seemed to be some truth in them. The populace had locked themselves indoors at dusk and there were eerie sounds echoing through the deserted streets. Skittering shapes appeared in the distance through the gloom and the NachtJägers fired off crossbow quarrels at them but they had no notion of hitting anything. Mummfisch took a small group of Zealot-Boyz round the back of a row of houses to prevent the Skaven outflanking them. Suddenly a vast horde of Skaven charged! The Orcs pushed the Goblins forwards to hold the Skaven up for a few moments and enable them to fire a few more volleys before the Ratmen closed with them, then the big greenskins counter charged the Skaven and hacked down three or four of them, The second wave of Skaven, including their Rat Ogre, arrived and smashed into the Orcs. Mummfisch’s party was attacked by the Assassin and a handful of spear-armed Skaven. The Assassin pounced on Mummfisch and drove his wicked blades straight into the Orc’s neck and chest, he died instantly. Kaptain Fängmorder and the Zealots who had held back to fire on the advancing Skaven joined the fray and floored a couple more Ratmen. But the Hold Rat’s greater numbers started to tell and more and more Orcs were taken out of action. Fängmorder was set-upon by a Black Skaven who fired his Warlock Pistol into the Kaptain’s face and blew his brains out. With the Kaptain gone the Orcs were shaken to the core, Grimmig’s bellowed prayers held them in the fight for a while but when the Warrior-Shaman was pulled down the five remaining conscious NachtJägers ran for their lives! ~~~ | |
| Thanks guys! Godfather Viktor is considering retiring the Hold Rats for a while and switching to another warband - they are maxed-out at 20, including the Rat Ogre... plus they have a Warlock Hired Sword and a bucket-load of skills and stat-boosts. I'm considering retiring the Witch Hunters for different reasons! Now then, the question is... re-start the Witch Hunters or switch back to the Ogresuns for a bit? Or maybe both?! | |
