Spoooooky swamp terrain for empire in flames skirmish

Hey guys, like i promised, my first add for the forum family, hope you like it, and iam lookin forward to recieve good and bad about it!
the thing is based on our campaign setted in the area near mordheim, with a spooky necro´s tower in the middle, wich i scratchbuilded myself, and as lazy as i am, i made a mold of it, so i can use it later on , on the oncomming pieces yet to be done. I am especially proud of the trees made of wire and gesso, really easy and fast made stuff, well enough said, enjoy! well, hope that it works, if not, ja, then we have a problem, by the way, think that 2 other pictures came with it, some of my first mordheim board, to big, heavy, but nice, sold this one on ebay a while ago):

we allready played a few games on it, using the swamp and waterfighting rules from empire i.F., but it makes the whole game to slow.

Well from what I can see that looks pretty spooky

Some of the pictures are a bit blurry, wouldnt mind seeing a shot of the entire scene. The fona looks awesome.

OOOEEEOOO! SPOOKY STUFF indeed! While slightly crisper photos might allow a closer peek at all the COOL details, the mildly blurry effect enhances the SPOOKY feel. GREAT LOOKING TERRAIN. VERY WELL DONE!

Hella good terrain and not bad photography, neither. Good job.

BTW, would you mind sharing your technique for the colorful vines, and flowers. They really do add an extra layer of detail. So nice seeing something that isn't all green for a change.

As said, pics a bit blurry, but the gameboard looks really good. Lots of detail that gives it character and flavour. Splendid work!

thanks for the "flowers"! To widgren, the tower is sculped from gesso in two parts, then the mold, and then again made of gesso, actually its a whole tower with a roof, but i wanted to make a ruin.
To Horned rat, the ivory is actually leaves for trees, in autumn coloures, and i just cuted them in small stripes and glued´em together. You can find them on www.battlefield-berlin.com, a german site, under " Gelände " , from a company called MININATUR , just call the guys at battlefield, the do speak english,

what is gesso?

davs widgren, nu skal du höre, gesso er bare gips, ganske normalt gips,

i do think that the english word for gips is gesso, but i could also be wrong, but gips should be the same in danish, swedish and german, i hope so.
while it is still fresh you carve it with a sharp metaltool, and the best thing about gips is, that you can go on and on, put a new layer on the old one, or even remove parts you dont like and make some new ones, but of course there is one big hindrace: weight, its so much heavyer then all the other materials you use to build with, but i still like it the most. hope i could help, floedebolle

I think I know what it is.. people use that material when you get a broken arm or leg.. they kind of put a layer of that white thing on your leg/arm/etc to keep it still so it would heal.

Thats called Yeso in México.

right dudes, opheliate is right, just took a look in my dictionary, y el general es correcto tambien, en espanol es yeso. You also use this stuff for plaster of paris, its those white plaster moldings you put up in the corners of the ceilings.

as i allready told, for my use its perfect, cause it can be done over and over again, thats the big plus of this thing!

and to everybody, a few hours ago i used some plastic water effectstuff to imitate the watery swampsurface, i think tomorrow i will have some more pics of the board.

I agree, thats a very sturdy material and it's not hard to get used to work with. It's also pretty cheap around here.

FWIW, in english plaster is the common name for the hard stuff you can carve, make moulds in, and that they cast around your arm or leg if it is broken.

Gesso is the same idea: chalk + gypsum + glue, used to prepare surfaces for painting. In classical painting this can be a paste, or rough gesso grosso as a base for tempera painting on wood panels etc. Often now refers to a pre-mixed acryllic white primer for canvases, rather than the more varied older usages.
