Anyone tried out Malifaux yet? I picked up the rulebook last week and played a game with some minis I had lying around. After one game I ordered a box set and deck of fate cards.

I really like the Cheat Fate aspect of the game. While the game uses no dice, it does still have the random element through randomly picking cards. However, there is more strategy to it because you can then adjust that with cards from your hand or through using soulstones. It allows for enough randomness to still make it interesting, without suffering as much from bad roll syndrome. it also adds another small layer of strategy in knowing when to Cheat Fate or use your soulstones.

Also, while I'm a huge fan of traditional fantasy settings the setting of Malifaux is just incredibly interesting. It combines all kinds of elements including Steampunk, Victorian, Fantasy, and Horror all into one, and it works!

The only thing I wish it had right now was the element of leveling up characters from Mordheim. With that said, they are supposedly working on official campaign rules which I would really like to see.

I highly recommend checking this game out if you haven't.

Well I've been a regular on the Wyrd Forum for awhile AND I have a fair number of their UBERCOOL minis...they turned out to be Resurrectionists when the game came out. The only things keeping moi from playing are a lack of opponents, & my prejudice against card games...I LIKE rolling dice. HOWEVER, the minis are a treat to paint up, if somewhat on the fragile side. BTW I opened a thread about Malifaux when the game was looking for Beta game testers.

Yeah, I saw your thread about it way back and just never looked into it. I'm not sure what made me look into it recently, but now I wish I had tried to get in on the beta!

I just ordered myself a Redchapel Crew (Seamus) box set. Are there pics of your Resurrectionists anywhere? I'm getting ideas for when I start painting them. Smile

No photos YET...I'm still photographically challenged. PLUS I've only recently started painting them up between commission thingys & the Imminent Doom of relocating.

Right now I have The Mad Surgeon, Sebastian, The Undertaker, Mortimer (painted), The Guy in the Topper, The Rotten Belles, Sybill, the Samauri Zombies, the Twisted Zombies (painted), & the Apparitions. They've come out with SO MANY new & UBERCOOL minis since the rules release, it would be a challenge to try to catch up, but one never know, do one?! Malifaux Suspect
