I was looking through some old files I have on my computer the other day and came across a few items that I thought might be of interest.
I present two Dramatis Personae that I created but never got around to actually trying out. The first, inspired by the musical Sweeney Todd, were originally intended to be used in a scenario defending a shop and their Wyrdstone-enhanced pies from a number of encroaching warbands.
The second, Sanshi and Ichidi, were written for the Ogre Maneater Ninja model that GW released.
I'm not sure how balanced they are, but I thought they'd be quite fun all the same!
Todd Lovett and Mrs. Sweeney
Exactly what horrors have been witnessed by Todd Lovett, none can say; but little of his sanity remains. Unlike most in the City of the Damned, he opted to stay after the cataclysm that reduced most of the city to ruins and attracted the attention of adventurers from far and wide. He still broods in his small apartment and barber shop above the Pie Shop of Mrs. Sweeney. And Mrs. Sweeney, ever devoted to the demented barber, also remained in Mordheim making pies from the corpses of those Todd Lovett killed with his viciously sharp razors.
No one knows exactly what drove Lovett to insanity; some say he had a wife and child that were killed in the catastrophe that befell the city, others say the Wyrdstone itself poisoned his mind. Whatever the case, Lovett seems intent on eliminating all who are to blame for the destruction of Mordheim. Though his judgment depends a great deal upon his mood, it seems that he holds most of the many adventurers who have flocked to Mordheim responsible for bringing down the accursed comet that led to the city’s destruction.
Hire Fee: It costs 75 gold crowns to persuade Todd Lovett and Mrs. Sweeney to fight a battle.
May be Hired: Any warband may hire Todd Lovett and Mrs. Sweeney, though they will only fight for one battle and cannot be hired by the same warband for two consecutive games.
Rating: Lovett and Sweeney increase the warband’s rating by +75.
----------------- M WS BS S T W I A Ld
Todd Lovett----4 5 3 4 4 2 4 2 10
Mrs. Sweeney 4 2 2 2 3 1 3 1 7
Equipment: Todd is armed with a pair of cut-throat razors (count as daggers). Mrs. Sweeney carries a cleaver (counts as an axe), a rolling-pin (counts as a club), and garlic.
Skills: Lovett has the Step Aside, Dodge, Ambidextrous, Jump Up, and Lightning Reflexes skills.
Special Rules:
Pies: Lovett’s hire fee doesn’t represent him actually taking money for his trouble; rather, it is the cost of purchasing large numbers of Mrs. Sweeney’s pies to reassure her that you are not going to harm or take away her beloved Lovett. Following the battle in which the warband hired Lovett, the hiring warband counts as having half as many warriors (rounding up) as it actually does for calculating income.
Dangerous: Going to Sweeney’s barber shop is a dangerous affair as there is a chance that he will use his wyrdstone-granted powers of persuasion to get whoever approaches him into his barber chair – after that, it’s into a pie with him. A lucky adventurer will manage to talk Sweeney into a rage and convince him that their rivals are responsible for the city’s destruction. When a player wishes to search for Todd Lovett, he must specify which hero is doing so; if the result on the D6 roll to find Lovett is a 6, the poor hero has decided to get a very close shave and is removed from the warband roster and placed in a number of meat pies.
Out of Control: Should Mrs. Sweeney be taken out of action or leave the table, Lovett will lose his last connection to his past life and will then go on a rampage. Lovett will move toward the nearest visible model (friend or foe) as quickly as possible and will charge and attack them. If there is no model in Lovett’s line of sight, roll a scatter die to randomly determine the direction in which he will move; as soon as he is in a position that brings a model in his line of sight, he will rush toward that model and will no longer have his movement direction randomly determined.
“I’ll Polish ‘im Off!”: So skilled is Lovett with his two razors that they cause a critical hit on a to wound roll of 4+ (unless he would normally require a higher result to wound).
Frenzy: Lovett is subject to the rules for Frenzy. Should Lovett be taken out of action, Mrs. Sweeney then becomes frenzied and will not lose it unless she is taken out of action.
Unbreakable: Lovett never tests for psychology (including all alone tests), even if his frenzy is lost.
Love-Stricken: Only Lovett counts as a friendly model to Mrs. Sweeney for the purposes of all alone tests.
Sanshi the Ogre Assassin of Nippon and Ichidi
Hire Fee: It costs 140 gold crowns to hire Sanshi and Ichidi, and 60 gold crowns upkeep.
May be Hired: Any warband may hire Sanshi and Ichidi.
Rating: Sanshi and Ichidi increase the warband’s rating by +120.
------------M WS BS S T W I A Ld
Sanshi----6 4 3 5 4 3 4 3 8
Ichidi------4 3 2 3 2 1 4 1 5
Equipment: Sanshi is armed with a dagger, light armour, a no-dachi, a sword, throwing stars, and Black Lotus. Ichidi has a dagger, Bo-Staff, and a rope and hook.
Skills: Sanshi has the Infiltrate, Acrobat, Ambidextrous, Eagle Eyes, Knife Fighter, Climb Sheer Surface, and Expert Swordsman skills. Ichidi has the infiltrate skill.
Special Rules:
No-Dachi: These weapons are razor sharp and perfectly balanced. To the men of Nippon, a no-dachi is long and wielded with two hands; Sanshi, however, uses it like a normal sword. All attacks made with a no-dachi gain +1 strength, initiative, and weapon skill. It is also armour piercing and can be used to parry.
Bo Staff: This staff can be used in a variety of different ways: either as a club, spear, or halberd (and can change from phase to phase in the same combat). It always counts as a blunt weapon if the special critical hit tables are being used. Additionally, it can be used to leap short distances and grants its user the leap skill.
Black Clothes: Because of his training and his dark clothes, Sanshi is more difficult to hit than his size would suggest. Unlike other large models, he does NOT count as a large target.
Partners: Sanshi and Ichidi must be deployed within 2” of each other, but will move independently thereafter. Should either Sanshi or Ichidi be killed (i.e., roll an 11-15 on the serious injury chart) the survivor will immediately leave the warband.
