| I voted Reiklanders because they are good (best?) human warband and you can reuse the mercenary models for a lot of other stuff. So it's never wrong to make a Reiklander warband. | |

| I think you might get more responses if the Thread was in the Painting & Modeling Section. Let me know if you want it moved. | |

| After MUCH thought & gnashing of teeth, I ACTUALLY came up with of a decision purely on which I'd prefer to paint. I went with the Witch Hunters narrowly over the Living Impaired.

| Well I voted for Witch Hunters because I was in exactly the same boat and I went for them, Why? Well I wanted some conversion projects and I wanted something with a little more "flavour" than one of the Mercenary warbands (but I plan make a Reiklander one too) but it depends on more than a few factors, some of which are - - what your looking for in a warband, how they play and the modeling aspect. - what figs you already have. - your budget My real advice is, WHY LIMIT YOURSELF TO ONE? Hehe, good luck. | |

| Erm, it's tough to vote on what warband I think you should play, when I don't really know what you're looking for. Do you want a close-combat warband, or a shooty warband? Are your friends and group likely to be of the more competitive type, or low-key "play-by-fluff" sorts? What does your budget look like? Which warband intrigues you the most from a thematic standpoint?
I think all of these are things that I would want to know before casting a vote.
However, with no background knowledge whatsoever I guess I would second Cianty's vote of Reiklanders because they're pretty straightforward, easy to wield, and the models are likely to get used in various other scenarios and settings if you want them.

| In light of your answers, I went ahead and voted for Reiklanders. At a glance they may seem a bit "vanilla," especially compared to warbands like the Possessed and Undead (which, not surprisingly, have more votes). However, they have lots of benefits:
Cheap, you can probably pick up a box of Empire State Troops or Free Company and have a warband with figures to spare.
As easy or difficult as you want them to be as far as modelling goes. Other warbands will require a considerable amount of converting if you intend to pull them off without spending an arm and a leg on some of the figures.
Relatively few special rules and equipment to keep in mind, each guy has a straightforward purpose so you know how to use him.
They're a pretty strong ranged warband, typically with lower recruitment costs than other "shooty" warbands.

| Plague Doc, In light of your answers I would go for Reiklanders for the reasons Myntokk said. At minimum get the Empire Free Company box and you have all you need for the warband And again as Myntokk suggests too, the Empire State Troops are another possibility, which would give you some nice parts to use for your heroes. That’s why it would be good if you could get both together (but in no way a necessity...after all it will take you time to paint the models so you can save up for more and add to your collection). As Myntokk mentions you will get a load of spares with the two above boxes so that’s why in the long run it will be better and cheaper Also you have nice plastic box sets for the skaven and orcs and dwarfs and..etc...so the stuff I have written above is not to say that the other warband choices you posted will be expensive, but how much is expensive??? I suppose that's all relative Anyways...you have options, and a wealth of knowledge that you can call on from members of this forum so good luck. | |

| I voted Reiklanders because they are cheap, easy, fun to paint, and perform well on the table top. You can never have too many Reiklanders. | |

| when you have had a bit of experience in the whole painting/modeling/greenstuff thing it would be incredibly fun to make a plague doctor themed warband . maybe using posesed or carnival of chaos rules? but it would be very dificult to make and every model would need converting so I would wait untill you have done at lest one warband already. I think you made a good choice with rieklanders for a starting warband. | |

I think you made a good choice with rieklanders for a starting warband. That would be a nice little project indeed, but as you said i think i need a bit more experience. I have seen that orcs are quite popular and after looking at the rules they look very fun to play so they may be another option. So if anyone has any advice on my three chosen warbands (Rieklanders,Undead and Orcs) i would grately appreciate it, thank you. Doc

| Bear in mind that my comments come from someone who, over the last couple of decades has become more a modeler/painter than a gamer. That said, I would pick out a War Band solely on which one appealed the most to moi on an artistic level. If you LOVE the minis, you'll LOVE painting & gaming with them. The Reiklanders have advantages as a shooting War Band with a plus in the control/morale area. Undead cause fear, which is something not to be sniffed at [sniffing around corpses IS NOT a good idea ]. Orcs & Golblins are....well, different; they have good hand to hand potential...kind of; their ballistic skills reach the heights of mediocrity; they have attitude issues; BUT, if you enjoy cartoony minis & a good laugh, the Lads in Green really are the best. | |
