Pirate and Dwarf minis?

There's one detail that's really uncommon: the hook is on his right hand. Recently since I've been working on my pirate orcs, I've noticed there's a stereotype that the hook hand is always the left one, hardly ever the right. It's somehow bored itself inside my cranium so when ever I think about a pirate with a hook, it's always the left hand. Nicely sculpted and the gator looks pretty cool if you ask me. You could always replace the clock with a pair of legs coming out.

@Kaptain Dedgob: Come to think of it, you're absolutely right...although in this case, the Southpaws aren't getting the dirty end of the stick. Actually the lefty thing reminded me of Michael Perry who lost his right hand in a reenactment mishap...WHAT A BUMMER!

Maybe pirates who lose their right hands just retire, while those who lose their left can carry on?

I noticed that as well, so I made a conscious effort to make some right-hand hooks for my Orc crew.

True, but it's not all that grim since he learnt how to sculpt with the prothese. Makes me admire his skill even more to think he can do things with just one hand that I could never do even with both of my hands. 'Tis getting a bit off topic. Carry on thread!

For the helluva it I did a "hook hand" search at Reaper. It only came up with one...I KNOW there are more than one; that aside, quess what:

Hands were not only lost in combat... ships with a massive amount of rigging pose some serious dangers.. and as we all know.. crocodiles pose the biggest threat!

...with an atrilleryman/gunner the opposite would be true;i.e., the right hand would be still holding the rammer as the powder bag flared up the sparks remaining in the cannon barrel should it be not properly vented, sending aforementioned rammer & hand seaward.

Still in all I would imagine that a certain % of the swordsmen were "actually" left handed, &, ergo, prone to lossing their right hand. YET ANOTHER advantage to the dual wield question.

[EDIT] Decided to not be lazy and look myself. 25mm, that is usable...but I think it would be a bit small?

To be truthful...thereby avoiding some possible trouble/bad feelings...I don't really know JUST how big Capt. Hook is. He's made by Tales of War/Ron & Bones, SO I would imagine he'd match up with the rest of their range.

He & the Croc come with a 50mm base which they JUST about manage to fit on, if that's any help determining how big he is.

I think that Tales of War minis are a bit higher than GW ones, like Rackham ones perhaps...
I'm searching for a size comparison, but don't find it yet !
