| I am just starting to get into Mordheim trying to start it up at my club. So far I have chosen to make 2 warbands. Dwarves and Pirates. All of my collections have only GW models in and I want to try and keep to that. So. Apart from the Dwarves Mordheim set and the Sartosa Pirate, What models do people use for these 2 warbands? For the Heros and the Henchmen Thanks in advance | |

| hi, why is it that you want to stick with GW so bad ? (just was following two other threads concerning female mini's and pirates on this site, but didn't see any GW pirates) | |

| In the future I have plans to open a store for GW products in my area. Theres alot of players and no store closer than an hour away. The reason mainly is that I will want to use the models I have for display or gaming in the store | |

| ah ! ok then it's just that GW has nothing like my avatar, sooooooooooooo I miss some stuff with them, and also find them rather expensive plus I don't like their tendency to go more & more towards plastic maybe your shop can carry AND GW AND other brands ? | |

| I am a big conversion fan so plastic is good for me. I havent found any other supplier that will have the same turn-over and quality that GW does in the UK | |

| For pirates, I would stick primarily to Empire Free Companies (which incidentally, were originally released as Mordheim human mercenaries). The generally have a fairly piratey look about them (hats/bandanas, eyepatches, overcoats, big boots, etc.), and come with several weapon arms carrying cutlass-shaped swords as well as pistols. To further distinguish them you may want to do a little conversionwork on them, to the effect of additional hats, hook hands, etc. etc. I also really like the Highwayman model, although including him may confuse some opponents.
For dwarfs, just check out the Warhammer army - they've got a great selection of figures that should cover all of your needs as far as the warband goes. The biggest problem is that it's probably not all that easy to get just a few of each troop type - so if you want to look for individual figures or small groups I would hit eBay.

| While browsing the GW site, I noticed that Kal Jerico from the Necromunda range, while very expensive (partially on account of his scavvy sidekick), would make a very cool pirate model if you swapped his las-pistols for the more standard fantasy variety. | |

| Pirates--I second the recommendation to use the plastic free company, but I would also suggest searching a bits supplier for other piratical bits available in the newer kits as well.
Dwarfs--if you can find the old plastic dwarf warriors from 6th edition or was it 5th, buy them! Otherwise a box of the thunderers may provide everything you need. (Except slayers...) Many of the beginning dwarf warbands I see lately use the Battle of Skull Pass because you get a selection of dwarf warriors including a Slayer. Again a bits supplier would be handy, or just cruising e-bay.

That's true, you can often find the plastic kits "broken down" into bits on eBay (i.e. you'll find an auction for Goblin Wolfrider Legs x10 or something), I would also suggest hunting some of these down to enhance the piratey look of your pirates. It seems to me that the Empire Handgunners/Crossbowmen and Outrider/Pistolier sets are especially good for piratey stuff.

| I recommend getting the Empire Outrider box, too, as there are loads of pistols in it. Also, the handgunners have some cool weapons and of course the little powder monkey. | |

| Hendybadger:Can you tell me about the shops in the UK, is there a lot of stores that sells other manufacturers than GW?? Because in Sweden there are none and my thought is to open a store that sells from other manufacturers to since they are nowhere to befound... I also think that you are wrong about the quality about other manufactorers figures, just look at Reaper that has the greatest figures I have ever seen... This one was very cool by the way... | |

| I got The Pirates of the Dragonspine Sea 2 as part of a mini swap deal... VERY COOL minis. AND they can be purchased separately; PLUS there are several more that go nicely with the set. @Trulsa: check out The War Stores Internationl Shipping: http://www.thewarstore.com/InternationalOrders.html . AND bear in mind, you DO have a friend in the US of A. AND how's this for the Baddest Pirate that EVER sailed the Seven Seas?

| GW also produces the Long Drong Slayer Pirates. While very cool in their own right, I think I prefer the Armor Cast dwarf pirates that DeafNala posted, and the Long Drong pirates are quite expensive. However, they're a lot of fun and since you mentioned that you're aiming to stick with GW minis I wanted to bring them to your attention. | |
