Thieves stealing a thread from the Merchant in Marienburg

Started this thread with a Bordertown Burning Merchant Caravan.
page 4 is where my Mutiny in Marienburg Low Kings warband starts off.


Well, As only one week before the meeting in Bremen, I just realised that I have a LOT to do still, but what better way to motivate one, than by making a nice little WIP thread on this forum!?

so here we go:

I've decided to go for a Merchant Caravan as I already wanted to make a merchant warband.
My Caravan hails from Averland, and went up north around the mountains, to make it to the wastes and route for cathay.
Being from Averland makes them sort of wealthy, and being a merchant makes the leader a showoff, so he needed a lot of fine cloth and plumes and an exquisite rapier, for which I could not find the rules but the theme just demanded the conversion:

the coat will be a soft blue hue and will feature an intricate design (if there's time before the meeting... )

Then I have an apprentice which is clearly not as esteemed... being succered into all sorts of lousy jobs he needs a lot of leather protection, and my magician, who got picked up on the way north:

(All my heroes have magnetic joints so they can change weapons or heads etc. and for my apprentice I made another body for his driving of the cart):


The two Knights Vanguard are well equipped but because they have been roaming around for a while and fought many battles they have lost most of their connection to the Averland colours (there will be more different colours):


Then the Marksmen, are brought along from Averland and feature neat colours and unity:


Then in the event of great wealth, I've made some models to hire, one with a pike, just because pikes are allowed in this list (the pike is about 5 cm long - which makes for greave danger to one's eyes when painting the face a bit too closely to his own face! haha) and one with a halberd:

Now a lot remains to be done, and I should really decide on colours for my crossbows... as brown is too "normal/cheap" for my rich little dudes, but I'm not sure what other color would fit...
And the Cart needs a LOT of building and painting.. so I hope I can get to finish that one in time...:S ohhh the work

VERY COOL! It is impossible to pick out a favorite; re, they're ALL just SO GOOD! I LOVE the Merchant's checked pants. GREAT LOOKING STUFF! Keep up the GOOD WORK!

Rapier rules can be found in the 2002 Mordheim Annual. Pretty sure there's a PDF version in the downloads thread on this forum.

Warband is looking good. Great work on the stripes/checks on clothing.

I wouldn't worry about using brown, leather boots/gloves/armour can be high quality, it's not just for peasants.

I love what you've got going so far!

If you want to make your wooden bits look more expensive/exotic, make them look like they're made from a bit more exclusive woods, and more polished? Maybe freehand some carvings in the crossbow stocks etc.

i like! Good to see someone making a merchant caravan! How did you get such a great yellow over a black undercoat? If that the new GW foundation yellow?

I knew my cart was simple but yours really destroys mine! It looks fabulous already! I love the design! Are you building it with 20x20mm bases in mind? It looks so (because it looks so big). I didn't for mine and that was not so smart...

Love the warband and can't wait to see it in reality soon!

Progress has been made, though not that much today... hangover is striking me in a rather serious way... jech...

But I have managed to paint the last marksman, all the bases are flocked, some clubs and hammers were made and my captain is looking a bit flashyer with his shiny rapier...

a lot remains though...

Cianty, yeah, I had a cart fot testplay, and that was a tad small, so I built this one around 6 bases, so I can fit everything in with ease, also, I made the cart magnetic, so the models will not keep falling out when driving up a hill or sorts.. that I must say was one of my better moves! hahah

Dubstyles, The yellow is made by coating it in bronzed flesh (3 thin layers), then highligting with sunburst yellow, washing with gripphone sepia, another highlight of sunburst yellow, and final highlights with bleached bone.

Hope to post more tonight, but now I must entertain some friends in the park...

I especially like the Cart so far! Have you decided what kind of wheels the Cart will have?
You actually made a lot more progress than me.. So far, I have 2 completely finished CD Henchmen.. and that's it.. the rest is still on the "conversion bench"..

I, as another anxious git, am looking forward to see these lads in the flesh as well!

Wow, that's awesome! Can't wait to see it for real, and the pants are awesome! I think you'll have to give me some advice so I can improve my warband when I'm at your place.

I thought your previous band of privateers looked awesome as could be man!? so I don't know what I can improve on your style?!

I think your captain does look much better But we will see soon

One point of criticism, though: the rapier needs a point. Currently, it looks like a metal rod and not a blade.

hehe, well, at the moment it IS a metal rod! but the filing down takes forever! :S

Well...you COULD use a needle . OR it could be a Light Saber...Jedi Merchant, that's the ticket!

Well, Progress has been made albeit a little.. I'll post some updates tonight..
suffice to say, it's been hot, and damp out here, and we've been painting a lot... on a cramped table... we could have spent our time a little better in the park or some such thing :S but hey... models are looking a tad nicer now

Well, I've come up with a name for my band:

the Obviously Opulent Averlander Trading Company (Get it? the OoA Traders? )

And made some more progress, though yesterday Sascha and me felt a bigger desire to head into town than to paint (it was still blazing hot, even though it rained a bit...) so we found beers instead of treasure, but never the less counted ourselves rich men!
