I was perusing the internet just now for Mordheim terrain inspiration yet again and found some archaic looking websites with simple looking buildings. The interesting thing is that i fond two references (turns out they re from the same author) to actually setting your finished terrain on fire !!

Check them out here and here.

Has anyone ever tried this? The walkway in the first link actually looks rather nice, but i think that setting a perfectly good piece of terrain on fire is a waste when you can achieve similar effects with black drybrushing...

Well actually I have. I wanted some charred beams so I set up a candle in my sink and toasted a couple of balsa beams. I carved them a bit before I singed them to get the shape I wanted without having to rely on the fire.

After I got them built into the terrain piece I decided it was a waste of time and slightly silly. Who wants to read about themselves in the paper--Gamer burns down house.

If you want to distress something hit it with some rough sand paper and dry-brush it with some black paint. Very Happy

I use it all the time! Fire is a modellers best friend! Really

foam is easily shaped by fire, wood is deformed easily, and it gives unexpected results you wouldn't get with sanding int...

You should really give it a try, just take care to fully extinquish the flames before leaving the house! (foam or other materials tend to smoulder for a long time and then suddenly catch fire again)

I usually do it before painting, but to finish up some stuff is rather nice as well....

oh, and don't combine deodorant and fire when you think it's taking too long... -MATT! Wink

The careful use of a lighter, candle, or heat gun can yield interesting results with vinyl strapping material, & plastic strips & sheets for things like vines, waving flags/pennons, stuff that you want animated. It can also enhance your reputation as a lunatic. Deaf Nala Smiley
