Border Town Burning Warbands - Vote your Favourite!

The Border Town Burning supplement has been out now for some time and you've all had a chance to go through the various rules and maybe even try some of them in your games. In this thread I would like you to vote for your favourite warband from the supplement. It doesn't matter whether you make your decision based on how you like the actual rules and feel of the warband or because you particularly like the race and background. Feel free to elaborate on your decision by making a post. I have enabled vote cancelling so you can change your vote later if you want to because of new experience you may have made.

Marauders: Because you just never get enough chaos!

Merchants, I like the idea to be able to do something more in a campaign than just fight, you can now trade (ooooooohhhhhh!!!!!!).

I´ve tried out Marauders, Battle Monks, Maneaters and Merchant Caravan so far and i like the Marauders of Chaos best, because they fit GW´s chaos fluff perfectly.

So far the results are about as I expected. Although I thought that the Marauders would get the most votes hands down and I didn't expect the merchants to be en par with them. But maybe that's due to the rather small number of votes...

I haven't voted as I haven't actually played with any of the bands yet. I can't offer a valid opinion without any experience. I suppose I could comment on ant impressions I had.

I am building Marauders because I wanted to update my Norse warband with new models and Marauders seemed like a good excuse.

The Merchants don't excite me at all. I'm not saying they are bad, just nothing to grab my attention.

The Restless Dead seem interesting. They seem to have a very different feel that, along with the modelling opportunities, intrigues me.

The Battle Monks keep trying to tempt me mainly because I'm a fan of Chinese imagery. Trouble is that it seems like the popular choice amongst all those katana/samurai obsessed kids from various internet forums. That puts me off.

The Black Dwarfs would be an interesting modelling project. I'd be wary about them being as silly as the Dwarf Treasure Hunters with their near invincibility. T4 is tough enough, but add on all those extra special resilience rules...

Despite having an Ogre army for WFB, the Maneaters don't appeal to me. I haven't liked the warband during any of it's incarnations I read over on the Ogre Stronghold forum. It may just be a personal preference, but I don't see a group of ogres fighting over small amounts of loot, I see them fighting armies for far bigger quantities. The only ogres I think should explore ruins or small areas are Hunters with their entourage of Gnoblars (I will eventually finish writing the warband rules and make all the models).

So there you are. No vote from me but at least a reason why.

I voted Marauders. They're just so tough and brutal, I love them. Always loved playing hard-hitting warbands and since I first downloaded their rules way back, my poor Pit Fighters just sit there collecting dust.

I vote Marauders, mainly because the conversions I have seen using marauder torsos and Warrior of chaos legs really appeal to me (not that some of the amazingly sculpted chaos Dwarves i've seen are any less amazing!)

As far as the most innovative, id say the merchants add much more to the post-game (which as we all know is what skirmish games are about, my Necromunda group used to play multiple quick shoot outs in a row just for more post-game leveling up and item hunting)

I would like to again say thanks to everybody who took the time to vote! Also thanks to those who gave some insight on how they made their choice. Also thanks to you, Cat, for giving a fairly detailed explanation despite not voting! It is really appreciated.

The results, while not perfectly representing my own preferences, clearly favour the Chaos Marauders, which is what I had expected. I think the Warriors of Chaos as a Warhammer army definately needed a Mordheim equivalent, that's why they are the flagship warband of the BTB supplement (and why I chose to have mine painted by grand master Tom). It's also good to see the other warbands get some love as well.

I will keep these result in mind for whereever they may be relevant..

Ha ha! I hate playing against them. Especially against warbands with little to no ranged weapons you will often see a lone single zombie apporaching - and the players go nuts. Is it the bomb? It's great to see the mind games that can be played with this. Good fun.

battle monks because the fluff and the concept behind them is awsome... i love the conversions made by cianty for them as well

I voted Maneaters. They are fairly different to most everything else and I like that (similar to why I liked the Imperial Outriders from Nemesis Crown I guess).

I went for maurauders, even though I play merchants in our current campaign... I feel the maurauders fit the theme of the campaign best, which is what I greatly like (and also, I got bummed out by constantly getting harrassed by 3 bands of chaos while driving my cart...)

Perhaps if another merchant would join our caravan and I could race him to the wealth, I will switch my vote back to my own side! haha

Regretfully, I haven't had a chance to play any of them or against any of them yet.

I wanted to like the restless dead, but when you see a lich go down to a goblin and the other skellies do the same, it's kinda depressing.

I really want to like undead (besideswith any mordheim warband I play, but I figure they are all just...not good.

Next in like is the Sartosa Ghost pirates (Styroheim!)

Funny. I have only ever seen the Liche go down once or twice. With all his wounds he usually stands in the middle of an enemy horde does some impressive spell-casting. I have really enjoyed playing against this warband.

I think if the (basic) necromancy spell list was a little better, it would be a scary warband!
