| After all the wilderness and oriental stuff it's about time I start some good ol' medieval town style gaming table. For the beginning there will be no experiments, no trying this and that. I start out big and beautiful - because the opportunity was there. Read on... - Spoiler:
I fell in with the house the very moment I saw it on ebay - - I HAD to get it. I have no idea who made it. I asked the seller and he said he got it from ebay as well. It has a striking resemblance with the Warhammer Coaching Inn from Forgworld, though it's not the same (the Forgeworld one is even better!). And no, the roof is not removable (can't have everything, hm). Anyways, I absolutely love this piece. It's incredibly detailed, the wood, the walls, the roof, the stones, the chimney. And it's huge! Sooo huge! I love it even more now that I hold it in my greedy hands. Ok now. Gotta keep my composure. *takes a deep breath* I am looking for your help, guys! I want to paint this beauty perfectly and I seek advice concerning... everything. Mostly colours I guess. How should I paint the wood/timber? Usually I just go with black, Dark Flesh, Bestial Brown and a Bestial/Bleached Brown mix. I don't think that looks good enough though. I guess some lighter brown (with a bit of... grey/yellowish tone would be better?). What about the walls? Brown/yellow or grey/white? What about the roof? Blue, red or something different? All thoughts, advice, comments and ideas are much welcome!

| rich brown timber,
i'd do a yellow / red theme on the walls,
add a bookcase or 2, some tables, stools a bar itself, do about 4-5 destroyed rooms with furniture bits liek destroyed beds, cabinets (Maybe dea dsleepers or skeletons in closet)
a store room, pleanty of holes if your vandalising it, if not then do colours as said but do balconies and scaffolding around the building so it has a use, but make it removeable. _________________

| SORRY! I looked at that BEAUTIFUL Inn AND drew a total blank color-wise. I also KNOW I've seen that model before; I'm pretty sure it's not a Hovels, but may be a Greenfield Garrison. I guess I'm of no help all around here [AGAIN ]. It DOES match up nicely to the Stage Coach. If this is a Coaching Inn owned by the same company as the Coach, perhaps they'd be in similar colors. | |

| That's a nice idea, DeafNala - I mean about matching the colours of the carraige to the house.
As for what colour to paint the wood - that's a tough one. You could go for a dark colour by using a basecoat of scorched earth (or even black, drybrushed up to Scorched Earth), and the a drybrush of dark flesh (to give it a reddish tint), or you could go to the other end of the spectrum, and paint it to make it look faded by sun and weather (so, basecoat of scorched earth, heavily drybrushed up to bleached bone by going through a few intermediary colours). For the second of these you could put a VERY SMALL amount of rotting flesh to the mix as you make your highlight layers to give it a slight greenish tint, but I would test this elsewhere first to see how it looks. It also depends on what colour you plan on painting the plasterwork. You might go for something complimentary to the greenish tint (to draw it out), as this could be contrasted with red or brown brickwork - the brickwork that's exposed where the plaster has cracked.
One thing has to be said, though - it's a magnificent piece of terrain, it really is. I'm sure you'll do it justice!

What I just thought is that I liked the two-colour style of the stage coach. This is what I mean: For my coach I used white instead of the yellow: Maybe using both colours would look good on the house. I could paint some wall parts white and others in red... Or I could use the same colour combo as the GW coach, ie. yellow and red. I like the wood of the GW coach, by the way. Any ideas which colours to use for that? Also, thanks for the suggestions, Hawkeye! Do you have any sample pictures of what that might look like? - DeafNala wrote:

I think Hovels didn't make resin buildings but... actually I have no clue what material their stuff is but it always looked like ceramic to me. And I have never heard of "Greenfield Garrison" before and it seems Google has neither. I'd greatly appreciate if anyone could point me to the company/person who made the house as I really really love it and I might even buy another one (or two or three...). Yes, I am that frantic and dead serious to boot. I will search for some cool buildings to get an idea of what I want to achieve. Copying a good colour scheme is always the easiest way. Oh, and I think I will remove the base (cheers, Ashton! ) so it will fit on whatever board I choose to use it on.

| sorry Cianty i don't think you understood me properly. i meant bookcases etc as in outside, like add some barrels or shelving for guns, chopping axes, wood etc round the building, for the colours i said choclate brown, its a very dark rich looking wood in my opinion http://www.flickr.com/photos/gornabanja/2552705067/ thats an example by what i mean. looks very costly, refined. I know the roof lifts off, its hard to write proper replies which are lengthy when in work and having to close window. a stage coach with a nice thick yellow / dark red colour scheme would look nice along side the inn with no horses, giving it a used to be used by the rich. _________________ | |

Thinking again, and looking at Wolfgang's famous Mordheim board and some other top quality scenery, I now decided against using too colourful paints like red and yellow. I want the building to look more realistic than ... colourful Warhammer scenery of 5th edition. Maybe a good yellow will work though. I need to search for some actual photos.

| No pics, Cianty, not yet. I'll post up some of the Morhdeim buildings that I painted in the last couple of years, but none of them do anything special (or even nice ) with the wood. However (there's always at least one however) I am about to start painting some new Mordheim terrain, perhaps over the weekend, and there's quite a bit of wood on at least one or two of them, so I'll try the technques I described, take pics, and post them up! | |

| For the new plastic buildings by GW I went with a Dark Angles Green roof with a little highliting and I think it looks quite good (gives a nice dark look).
Just a nice Bleached Bonish plaster colour for the walls perhaps.
You know what? It's hard to tell what to paint it without actually holding it. Send it to me, I'll give her a good look over, and then I promise (/snicker snicker) to send it back to you...

I know the roof doesn't lift off, that was a typo spell check did not find doh! damn my hands When i say bookcases etc out side i mean shelving maybe ruined with a few books lying on the floor as if the house has been pillaged and people have dropped and broken furniture when moving it. like rubble on the base but with furniture/chests/books etc For colours the following pic gives me nice ideas for how to layout wood or colours etc. _________________

| First off: No prob, Duce! Secondly, I have now removed the base. I can still put the house on it if I want to, but I don't have to. I am not going for a pillaged town look. I will probably make a burnt down ruined building some day but for now this house is gonna be intact and shining. That image is lovely! Where is it from? It seems that yellow/beige/white for the walls is the most realistic thing to do. I had a look at some pics, by the way, and I really like Jack's scenery and the wood on this image, e.g.: I am aiming at a more realistic appearance. This inn by Wotan at Gidean-Gelände is a great example: | |

COOL! I always thought doing one of the villages/settlements surrounding Mordheim had a lot of potential. The Inn is kind of right for Sigmarhafen. Some of the out-door areas, like a bier garden would provide a good gaming environment, and you could always do up floor plans for indoor mayhem.

Or expanding on that do Duce's scaffolding idea, if you don't mind obstructing small portions fo the building. Seeing how you like it gardens / hedges etc may be more ppropriate. or adding a stables area close by _________________

| OR, if it was one of the less reputable settlements, a Pit Fighting Arena would be cool. You could use Jervis J.'s Pit fighting Rules from Fanatic. For less formalize combat there's ALWAYS the alley for some impromptu mayhem. For Sigmar fearing communities, a Witch Burning Stake & a rescue attempt WOULD be cool. ALL the above, of course, aren't really helping cianty with his color scheme, but are fun anyway. | |
