Knights of La Mancha Empty
PostSubject: Knights of La Mancha   Knights of La Mancha Icon_minitimeMon 28 Sep 2009 - 20:52

The Knights of La Mancha hail from Estalia. Their home is an arid, fertile plateau located in the south-western foothills of the Abasko Mountains. Known for its windmills and fine woolen products, the sleepy pastoral province of La Mancha is a peasant's paradise. Those that call La Mancha home attribute its peace and prosperity to the fact that the region has avoided much of the strife and contention that embroils the rest of Estalia. 'Let the City States of Magritta and Bilbali empty their coffers making war upon one another,' a La Manchan will tell you, 'the men of La Mancha would much rather tend their flocks and make love to their plump wives.'

Due to this unseemly tranquility, a malaise has befallen the Knightly Order of La Mancha. It has been a generation since the cavaliers of the region have had any proper knight-work to do. Consequently, many knights have grown fat and now spend the campaign season raiding pantries rather than neighboring townships. In between "raids" the cavaliers while away their days, performing pedestrian tasks such as dressing themselves and bathing. Still other have taken to drowning their knightly sorrows in enormous casks of local wine or in the equally enormous bosoms of the region’s buxom serving wenches. For the knights of La Mancha, these are grim times indeed.

With very little else to occupy him, Sir Alonso Quixano has become especially reflective as of late. Nearing middle age and feeling his mortality, the gentleman knight has come to the realization that for a knight errant, to die in bed is a fate worse than death, or at the very least, equally as bad. Accordingly, the bandy legged cavalier has decided to embark upon one final quest. His greatest quest. A quest that will test his courage and valor like none other. A quest to the far-off and infamous City of the Damned.

The Knights of La Mancha are a 'counts-as' Estalian warband that use the Tilean warband rules. Their current model count is where they stand after 4 games into a 16 game (8 week) campaign. Hopefully pictures of painted models will follow soon.

Squire Sancho (young blood) and Sir Alonso Quixano (captain)

Squire Tomas (young blood) and Sir Francisco del Barco (champion)

Ahaha, I love them! The freelancer knight is a perfect choice for Alonso, and the Bretonnian friar certainly fits the bill for sanch too. That's a very fun and characterful warband.

Furthermore, I'm glad to see another Quixote fan importing him into Mordheim! I actually wrote him up as a Dramatis Personae, but this is a really cool warband! Can't wait to see some painted shots.

Thanks all for the kind words, but I am still not 100% happy with the warband overall. I just don't feel like most of the models are quirky enough. If anyone has any ideas, I am open to suggestions.

I think if it's quirkiness that you're going for then the model selection is fine, all you need to do is select some funky bits to add here and there. Fish nailed to shields, hand-puppets, you could put that Empire Handgunner monkey to use, etc. etc.

Just try to find all kinds of "little things" that will add a bit of that oddball flavor.

I agree with Myntokk. You have a fine starting point to REALLY work on the character of the War Band. Just let your story line guide you as to what each mini would look like, what paraphenalia he'd carry, etc.. There are all sorts of cool little things you can add to the Lads that would make them unique individuals AND, from the backgound you've written, you've got the imagination for the job. GO GET 'EM! It's a bit off-topic, but here are some Dregs I put together for a friend.

And while some may argue that these models are better suited for Possessed warband, I would remind them that the rulebook describes Dregs as, "deformed and rejected individuals, shunned by even the other men and women who still live in the ruins and catacombs of the city."

For whatever it's worth, I think they look the part. The additon of the nose on the top Dreg does wonders for his appearance. You should send the bottom one out on the shopping trips...two faced peaople do rather well in commercial transactions. EXCELLENT WIP. Knights of La Mancha 544694

Taking a break from the Gentlemen of La Mancha is a fine idea, The project will have a chance to blossom in your imagination as you work on the Living Impaired Lads, AND you can return to it reinvigorated.

The addition of the skull, instead of the powder keg, is creeeeeepy! A monkey running around in human clothing carrying a skull is very eerie to me.

Dregs look great! I do think it's good that you added a nose to that top guy though, so he doesn't look too deformed and still somewhat human.

You CAN'T have a proper Quixotesque War Band WITHOUT a Windmill...well, you could, but it wouldn't be the same. quidamcorvus is using the same Windmill as the basis for a project: https://boringmordheimforum.forumieren.com/miniatures-f2/gallery-by-qc-t1097-75.htm ...check it out you might get some ideas. I put together some proper wyrdstone counters for my campaign. I borrowed the idea to use certain bits from 2 WIP pics I saw on this forum. I want to thank that member for the inspiration.

The wyrdstone counters look good! Lots of character there, I like the dismembered hand reaching for the shard - that's Mordheim in a nutshell!

COOL! I wonder what the effect on the Vulture would be if he should eat that Wyrdstone he's staring so intently at...could be a HORRENDOUS conversion here...or not. Knights of La Mancha 544694

You get a lot of points from me for actually doing small pieces of wyrstone instead of those massive shards that I see all the time. I know they're just representing wyrdstone, but I think it creates more realism into the game to actually having realistic sized shards.

I mean... If anybody would actually touch a wyrdstone shard bigger than a rat: They'd most likely mutate into oblivion or something along those lines. Remember kids - safety first!
