well done!

The cent coins really do make good bases.

You should do something about the whites though... it looks too... clean. An easy way is to "wash" them with the new citadel washes and if necessary lighty brush them again with white after the wash is dry.

Try DEVLAN MUD as a wash.

Wow! a comment from the great admin Tom himself Shocked

Thanks! Very Happy

Washes? you mean glazes? i was thinking about using the army painter strong tone shade and varnish..

so that devlan mud is one of the new GW washes / glaze or is it another company?

I should test it out then (in a conspicuous spot Razz)
Sir, yes sir!

Yeah I wholeheartedly agree with Tom with regards to the new Citadel washes, they'll just make a ridiculous amount of difference to your paint job. Especially since you've done such a nice clean job on it already! Get on with the rest of them man!

AN EXCELLENT START! thumbsup

A bit of a wash on the white will give the padded surcoat more definition, & a reddish brown wash on the flesh do would likewise. This is going to be a FINE LOOKING warband.
The coin base is an EXCELLENT idea; not ONLY does it look good, but it gives the mini weight & stability [it SHOULD land upright when you drop it Suspect ]. WELL DONE! thumbsup

That's also an option. However washes are faster, less toxic and less expensive. Of course they are not shading your model as strongly, so 1 preliminary shading step is usually required and sometimes a post-wash shading step. But with whites I would not bother about the preliminary shading step.

I think for your small 1:72 minis, a wash would certainly be the more convenient solution.

WARNING: Washes are not meant for "Dipping". They should be applied with a brush - Actually FAP varnish shoulb be applied with a brush too - on specific zones. I am not a fan of flooding the whole mini in DEVLAN MUD.

Yes it is from GW and (you won't hear me say that often about a GW product) a must-have accessory.
Imagine it like a very light ink (so you can use A LOT on your mini) and not shiny. It takes longer to dry (4-5mins) but the result is usually worth it.

Good luck and don't forget to post your work!
Cheers

Do you consider only Devlan Mud a must have accessory or do you recommend other washes as well?

Devlan Mud i think is the best wash out there. Now Badab Black or however you spell it (its really early here atm) is a great one as well. If you have those two, you cant go wrong in my book.

Devlan mud is the one that is most versatile in my opinion. It is a dark brown and can thus be used for many surfaces. It looks equally good on metal, on beiges, on light browns etc...

I suppose if you only wanted to spend money on ONE wash (like me) DEVLAN MUD is the way to go.

So yes, I think DEVLAN MUD is the only "must have". However, as Drugart said having extra washes is always a good thing. The whole "washes" range by GW is very good quality.

Ah, alright, thanks Smile I will certainly buy some when I next visit my not so local GW store.

But now, I have to say that the crusader really turned out nicely! The base looks really good now it doesn't show that it's a 5 cent piece anymore.

Very Happy thanks for all these inspiring comments!

I do have a choice.. coz i own a can of army painter... the shop is closed today so can't get the wash.. AND i want it varnished so it stays nice..

yeah about that dipping, i tried it once on a TAU soldier.. haha i had to do extensive afterbrushing to get it semi good... so yes brushing it on would be the best solution.

so what to do Question i can test the army painter.. it does look pretty sweet on the tau bounce

but the wash.. confused hmm arg silent

One thing is for sure, i HAVE to get some shading!

well I guess if you've tried it on your Tau and like the result you may as well give it a go on that one mini you've got (he is one out of 112 after all!) and if it doesn't look good you can paint over it anyway!
Let's see some pics of your Tau in the sci-fi section buddy! Love those guys Smile

Here's a new batch!

I timed my painting time, as my friends wanted to know how long it takes to paint one fig:

A stunning 87 minutes and 15 seconds per mini. 333 minutes in total for these 4!

Enjoy! C & C Welcome!

Yes, with Army Painter. Although this tutorial apparently uses another commercial varnish that has a similar effect.
