Painting Journal - 2250pts of Vampire Counts

Well I have most of it still in plastic and I want to get it painted. As I see it, the best way to do this is to start up a journal so if I stop, I wont just be disappointing myself.

Here is what im trying to paint in 3 weeks (my holidays)

phase 1 (stuff I have currently)

40 zombies

20 grave guard

10 dire wolves

1 corpse cart

3 vampires

1 vargulf

Its going to be a got of work, but hopefuly I can manage the first part of my army.

The second phase of the journal will include the stuff I still have to buy;

12 crypt gouls

4 grave guard

10 dire wolves

40 skeleton warriors

1 vampire on zombie dragon (using the old "winged nightmare" model)

The scheme is based around purple. all the skeletons will have purple clothing/sheilds ect, vampires will have lots of purple clothing, gouls will have purple rags ect ect. The zombies will all be painted brown (as they are risen from the ground) and will have snow covering them in some parts (all my models are snow based).

Here is my army list for those who play WHFB. In Australia, our tournies arnt as hard core as the UK (you get shot for having the lector + 2 stanks over here) so It may be a tad soft compared to what you are used too.

Et tu Bretonnia?!

One of my pigeons [patrons] has me painting up three "armies" one of which is the "new" Living Impaired; they're quite nice minis although the assembly on the Grave Guard is a bit time consuming. They paint up REALLY nicely [note: if you are not put off by assembling in stages paint the mini & shield separately with the Skellies]. The Crypt Ghouls & the Vargulf are an absolute gas [or ghast ] to paint. I'll compare notes with you as we go along. I've got the $s to motivate me [mercenary old so&so].

Note: the eventual size of my pigeons units is somewhat larger than yours. If you'd like the Order of Battle, he's using I'll post it for you. Enjoy the project: "The journey of three thousand points begins with but a single mini."

How's the PROJECTcoming along? Mine seems to be temporarily on hold due a lack ok funds on my pigeon's part . Of course, if he backs out, that leaves me with the Corpse Cart to turn into something TRULY horrific [there IS an up side to most everything ].

Ok so far I have 20 zombies painted up to average gaming standard.

Im not a good painter and the only reason I do it is to get marks at tournies.

I will get some pics up asap probaly next weekend, but I am aiming to do another unit of zombies then as well.

I am currently one of the leading VC theoryhammerists on wargamerau (The majority of the wargaming community in oz) I just need to get my army up and going so I can win some games.

I'm glad you didn't give up on it. I paint EVERYTHING to the same standard; i.e., the BEST I can do [doing stuff for other folks MIGHT have something to do with this approach ], but I know a number of good painters who ONLY do basic paint jobs on units. The rationale being that they DO look good when view across the width of a gamining table ,which, of course IS true.

Nice army list. If I was doing the Vampire Guys for myself rather than a commission, I think I'd go for a Ghoul orientted army with lots of Dire Wolves, & maybe a Stirgoi Vampire & Varghulf. Thus far I've done up units of 10 Grave Guards, 10 Skeletons, 10 Crypt Ghouls, 5 Dire Wolves [Game Zone], a Banshee with 3 Wraiths [Reaper], 3 Fell Bats, a Varghulf, AND LOTS of Vampires [he wants LOTS of Vampire characters to swap in & out to create individual army groups for campaigning]. I've also done up matching numbers of Stirlanders [gotta have someone to bite, eh!? ].

I'm looking forward to seeing your stuff when you get a chance to post them.

Alrighty mate, hopefully with a few more years down the road my painting will be up to the point where I can strip everything and start again

Jusin, the guy I'm painting for, HAS sworn to take some decent photos of the minis I've done for him with posting link thingys. So far NOTHING has been forthcoming. I live in hope though [read: the man's an IDIOT ].
