PostSubject: Ork Town "Badlanding"   Sat 12 Oct 2013 - 6:56

I have a small amount of 40k terrain, mostly made from Necromunda bulkheads and I've been meaning to update it for ages. When Dazza very kindly gave my two boxes of Ork bitz it started this long-overdue project.

So I'd like to introduce you to Badlanding, an Ork held region of an Imperial industrial area, or possibly an area of the Necromunda underhive (as the presence of Orks on Necromunda is in the original rulebooks - spores left-over from a failed Ork invasion many, many years ago). It could be in an invasion Landing Zone, around a dropped Rokk or Landa, in a desert landscape and drifting sand dunes, piled up against ruined buildings.

In my plan there will be scrap metal, the remains of captured or destroyed vehicles (Ork and enemy), littering the ground. Components piled up for "sorting later" and left to rust. The buildings were originally an Imperial factory or industrial zone but they have been ruined, repaired, modified, extended, and generally Orkified. Metal armour plates have been bolted or welded on almost at random, each baring the remains of its original paint job and/or the daubings of the Ork Meks and their assistants.

Some parts have their original paint will still be visible through the damage and the dirt. Other parts have been repainted by the Ork invaders. The remains of Imperial Gothic markings and words can still just be made-out but they are layered with grime and Ork glyphs, checks and dags.

Plans for more...

VERY COOL, W.K.! The Post Apocalypse, ramshackle feel of Ork(c) terrain has a lot of appeal for moi. GREAT & WONDERFULLY DETAILED WORK! thumbsup

This piece was mostly built about 10 years ago! I finished it last month by adding Ork "decorations" and painting it. It's by far the biggest bit of terrain in my collection.

Orks really reach their full potential in COOL in the GorkaMOrka/40K milieu. Your UBERCOOL terrain pieces prove out my point. GREAT WORK as always!  thumbsup

Thanks guys!

I built this a few months ago but I found time (& inspiration) to paint it yesterday. Over the last couple of weeks I have also gone over all the other pieces and added a splatter of Typhus Corrosion to them. Lovely messy stuff!

I love it; i.e., the piece is imaginative with a SPLENDID paint job. It looks like it's given Inquisitor Lenk a really intense headache. VERY WELL DONE!   thumbsup

Two quick 500 point games against Blessed Knight; both using Maelstrom of War missions.

My first list was Unbound: Warboss, Trukk, Weirdboy Warphead, 3 Kans.

+ + + AAR 9 STARTS + + +

"Dem Blessed Knights 'ave turned up just east of Badlanding and sent in scoutin' parties to spy on us! Get togevva what Boyz you can muster over there and see 'em off!"

+ + + AAR 9 ENDS + + +

Fairly rapid defeat for the Bad Redz! Outflanking Scouts did for the Kans while a Whirlwind pounded the Boss Trukk. One-on-one Librarian v.s Weirdboy didn't go well either!

+ + +

My second list was Battle Forged: Warboss, Weirdboy, 20 Shoota Boyz, 20 Slugga Boyz.

+ + + AAR 10 STARTS + + +

+ + + AAR 10 ENDS + + +

The Orks are THE COOLEST thing in 40K...maybe the only cool thing. AND your latest creations bear out the truth in that statement. VERY WELL DONE!   thumbsup

About the only criticism I have is the guns/flamers would look better if you drilled out the muzzles.   What a Face

I still don't get a lot of hobby time these days - even though the twins are 6 months old now they still seem to eat all my free time. My wife and I don't do much that isn't directly baby related. We are even struggling to keep up with just 2 TV shows!

So small, quick projects are the thing for now.

+++

I've started re-basing my Boss Nobz onto the new(ish) 32mm bases. This isn't the first rebase they've had as they started on 40mm bases (which looked too big). I moved them to 25mm bases (which looked too small but were the "official" Nobz bases). Now it seems 32mm bases are fine for whatever model you want on them (Marines and Necrons come with them so far).

I think they look much better and highlight the "squad leader" really well. My Nobz mob will stay on 25mm bases apart from their Bos Nob.
