PostSubject: BTB - Rhinox: 3 questions ??   Tue 14 May 2013 - 21:28

Hi,

I'm playing a modified Maneater Warband in our BTB campaign and have just purchased a RHINOX called "Daisy" for one of my Ogres, but have 3 questions:

Missile and HTH hits are distributed to either the Rhinox or the Ogre. The Rhinox adds +1 Armour Save to the Ogre, but what armour save does the Rhinox get against these hits? Or is it the save of the Ogre? Very Happy

Impact hits work like Fantasy Impact Hits?

Not having the Ride skill effects the Rhinox exactly how? ( I'm very unclear about this)

Your wise help would be greatly appreciated

I haven't played a BTB campaign, but I have noticed that those who have seem reluctant to share their experiences and opinions. I find this frustrating on occasion.

I can offer some answers based on having used the Blazing Saddles rules since they came out. Flawed though they are.

Armor save--Does the Rhinox have a save on its profile? If so, it receives that armor save. If it does not, it receives no armor save. The ogre is partially protected by the Rhinox, the Rhinox is not protected by the ogre.

Impact hits--sorry no idea.

Ride skill--The Ride skill is taken by the ogre. The Rhinox may not take skills so it can not benifit from them. Do you have a copy of the Blazing Saddles rules? If so, the rules explain the disadvantage of attempting to ride a creature without the skill. If you do not have them I know they are out there on the net if you search, or someone with a link may provide it...

Hi,

I haven't played with mounts at all nor Rhinox in particular. VK is correct in the answers that he has provided.

I honestly suspect that 'impact hits' is a copy-and-paste error as it woundn't refer to Warhammer Fantasy Battle. I would treat these as automatic hits that are caused at the time when the charge occurs. Here are the rules.
Quote :
Thunderous Charge: Even a single Rhinox rider in full charge is a terrifying sight, the ground itself trembling as the cave-beast thunders into the ranks of their foe. On any turn when a Rhinox rider charges more than 7", he causes D3 impact hits at the basic strength of the Rhinox.

Would using the D3 impact hits be overpowered in Mordheim?

I play an Ogre warband and it would be great to use a Rhinox, but it seems a bit OP to me.

When simplified D3 impact hits means D3 hits. The flowery addition is simply that the Rhinox can cause D3 hits as a result of a charge. The unnecessary text was copied in by mistake.

Mounts can be used in two way; 1. Mounted by a warrior or 2. Tethered to a wagon as a draft animal.

Ride skill allows a Hero to charge his mount into combat. A Hero with the Ride Rhinox skill can mount unmounted rhinoxen and charge the beast into enemies.

Rhinoxen have Toughness 5, no armour save and 2 Wounds. Mounts confer a +1 save to the rider when he is hit.

One final point. When an enemy lands a hit on the mount then you might like to consider that any hits can potentially be parried by the rider. I donít remember there being an official guideline to cover this.

If youíve paid for it, youíve got it, so flaunt it while you can!

Regards,

Werekin

I guess that a Rhinox has some downsides that mounts usually do not have. If your warrior fails a Strength test when finding a Rhinox then it must roll on the Serious Injury Table. Ouch! The Rhinox can be hard to control when there are enemy warriors within charge range potentially reducing its use in the heat of battle.
