PostSubject: Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband?   sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? Icon_minitimeTue 10 Nov 2009 - 8:21

So, after having played on my new scenery with my Lizardmen (a campaign which we might continue) I thought it was time to start a more 'Urban' warband like the sisters of Sigmar. I also want to make it a good looking warband which I'd like to convert a bit, paint and improve my almost non-existent miniature painting skills...

First I want to do some research on what models/miniatures are available as sisters and this is where I'd appreciate help from the knowledgable community you people are! sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? Icon_cheers

We have of course the standard GW Mordheim miniatures:

sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? M1252198_99111102006_MordSistersSigmarBandMain_445x319

sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? M1251123_99061102016_MordSistersMatriarchMain_445x319

sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? M1251128_99061102017_MordSistersSigmarSuperiorMain_445x319

I also did some searching on the Reaper miniatures site, and also they have some very nice models!

After some conversion, these minitures could make for some awesome heroes:

sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? 14212_Kristy

sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? 03283_w_1

sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? 03222_G

And they also have a series of Sisters/nuns:

sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? 14372_G

sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? 14111_G

sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? 02432_w_1

sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? 02411_w_1

sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? 02403_w_1

sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? 14543_w_1

sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? 06062_G

sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? 02509_w_1

sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? 06101_G

Of course all thouse swords should get replaced with hammers, maces and whips... So I need loose parts like arms with whips and hammers. These "Boneyard" peices I also found on the Reaper site (there are no seperate pics of the parts, just the complete minis):

Whips:

sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? 14268_G

sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? 14131_G

sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? 50008_jack_harrison_front_rc

Hammers:

sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? 14464_w_1

sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? 03273

This last picture could also be a nice Augur, if I could just make her bald (axcept for the tail of course...). But this leads me to my first question:

1) Since I have NO experience with converting metal figures, how easy are they converted? Is making this chick bald and easy task? Or will it look like s***?
Also cutting away swords an all the models and replacing them with hammers/whips: is this easy? How to make the connections betwen the pieces strong and durable? Superglue? Greenstuff?

2) An obvious second question would be: where to find more lose hammers and whips (with or without arms attached)? Or how to make them?
Also: What other miniature sites/companies would you recommend? (I have no experience with this, only ever used GW minis...) Or do you know of other nice nun/sister/cleric/... models?
Are there other GW minis that might work?

3) I found a site www.chaosmailorder.com that sells the same Reaper models much cheaper, but it doesn't do interational
mail orders. Do you know any other miniature shipping companies that ship to Europe/Belgium?

4) A question about the size of the figures: Reaper uses 25mm (I think?) and GW uses 28mm... Is this a big difference? If I want to use a combination of GW and other minis, would the difference in size be annoying?
(Also, is there a big difference in quality between Reaper minis and GW minis?)

5) The "Bertha Bestraufrung" Dramatis Personae Mini is sooooo nice! Unfortunately I don't think GW still produces/sells it sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? Kopfschuettel ... (Why? Will it ever come back?)
Same for the nice "Augur" mini...
Does anyone know where to find one? Do some retailers still sell it? Does anyone using these forums have one and wants to get rid of it? sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? 544694

sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? Hsigmar12gdt9

Right, I think those where my 5 main questions! sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? Icon_smile

I thank anyone willing to help me/answer any questions! sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? Herz

Reaper minis are absolutely great! But hammers and whips are such easy to make yourself, that you don't have to invest in miniature only for one stupid weapon.
To make hammer you have to cut previous weapon, drill 1mm hole in hand, use wire as a handle and green stuff "brick" as a main hammer. Later wrap wire with some putty to make some nice facture.

hi,

been looking for Bertha myself, but she goes for rather high bids on ebay, so I wasn't able to get my hands on her myself.
For more ideas about sisters ; Trulsa got a similar thread on this forum ; be sure to check it out ! I don't know if there was talk about sisters on my "female miniatures" thread ...
If you get an all reaper warband, I don't think the size will pose you problems compared to the warbands you'll be fighting.

Replacing weapons is easy most of the time.
Making a bald head seems easy as well, but ofcourse you have to take into account the amount of existing hair you need to get rid off. If it's just the top of the head that needs taking off, that's no problem, but if the hair is sculpted on a larger part of the body, it can mean a lot of hard work.

There are lots of companies that ship to Belgium (lot of them in England) ; go search on ebay, or just google the name of minis you want until you find a UK based company.

Really look forward to seeing pics about your upcoming warband !!

ANSWERS:...more or less.

1- MicroArt Studio makes female heads which I believe come sans hair. I'll see if I can find you a lnk.

2-The "Hairy Head (Middenheimer) sprue has LOTS of hammers...I just happen to have a bunch that you can have if you'd like them. I'll check for some whips.

3-The War Store www.thewarstore.com has GOOD prices on Reaper minis; they do International Shipping, but suggest that they ship (for FREE) to a friend or relative in the USA if you have one...which you DO...to have them forward the minis to you.

4-Reaper calls their stuff "Heroic" 25mm which is the same as GW's 28mm & some other mini makers' 32mm...I wish they's ALL get on the same page.

5-I had both of those Holy Babes, but I traded them to Trulsa...my Avatar is in LOVE sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? Herz sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? Herz with her Avatar.

I'll get into modeling details and more questions later, but for now my question is whether paizo.com is a good online store? The prizes seems OK, as does shipping and they have another one or two nice models beyond the reaper collection.

@ Deafnala. Yup, my girlfriend Trulsa is really sinking her teeth into some nice Reaper minis right now, building a Sisters and a female Witch hunter warband at the same time. Thanks again DeafNala for Bertha and the Augur. thumbsup

(Still looking forward to my own Reaper undead minis to finish my warband...)

@ Jadex. I know there´s a nice plastic whip in the orc chariot sprue. Kazrak the beastman has a barbed metall one. Thinking about it, I guess most chariot crews got one.

Many plastic GW kits have hammers of some sort, dwarfs, marauders?, chaos warriors?, middenheimers, knights of the white wolf etc. "Pinning is the way to go i guess when attachin them, drilling a hole in both bits and put a brass rod in between. Enforcing with glue and perhaps green stuff is also good.

Does an Augur need to be bald btw? sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? 40268

According to the "fluff" in the starting warband, yep.

""Unlike the rest of the priestesses, they shave their heads, save for a single long braid" (p.84, 2nd column, 2nd entry: Augur)

Besides, they are blind.

But of course, nothing stops you from "interpreting" this as you see fit, if you find a suitable mini and you want to use it sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? Icon_wink .

And as the "official" Augur isn't available anymore (shame on
GW), you MUST find a proxi mini to use.

Hope that helps.

About the bald head: I'll just try to "shave" the rest of her hair as the model already has a nice and long braid : )
I also have some plastic hammer leftovers from a "morheim mercenaries plasic set" (is it that one you mean? Or what is the "Hairy Head (Middenheimer) sprue"?), but pesonally I find those hammers a bit to small/hammerish... Plus, they're from plastic: is it possible/advisable to us plastic weapons on metal mini's? Do you have some pics of your hammers? I wouldn't want to waste them ; )

Thanks for this info. I'm completely new to modding/modelling so even this basic info was very very usefull! Do you have a link or something to some tutorial for this? (on hammers/whips, or even just general greenstuff creations?)

Yeah, I looked on ebay, international/UK/everything, but the prices are still rather high... Or maybe I'm just not used to OOP prices for nice looking mini's... : p
I found:

Mmmm, DeafNala doen't only seem like a nice guy, he really IS a nice guy, trading away those nice minis! sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? Icon_smile

Thanks for all the references to the whips/hammers! But I'm trying to keep the budget minimal and I don't have a lot of these spare parts/sprues, and buying them just for that seems a bit drastic! I'll go with Kadzik's advice on making them myself. With 'zero' experience, I guess it'll also be a very nice learning process... sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? Icon_rabbit

Also: Since I didn't get any specific references to other "nun/sister/cleric/...-ish" models, I just went for an all (but one) Reaper mini Sisters of Sigmar warband. Below are all the pics of the minis I ordered, 16 in total, a decent amount to have some spare models to maximise the WYSIWYG options. Also ordered some greenstuff, a drill and a sculpting pen-thingy to get creative.. sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? 3228 (I ordered it all at once from paizo.com... Anyone has got positive or negative experiences with this site?)
Anyone hase a link to a fantastic beginners tutorial on greenstuffing, with rules of thumb, basics tips, ec.?

Here are the fig that I ordered and that I'll try to mod:

I am in the process of making my own sisters of sigmar warband. Jadex, would you mind giving me the name/number of the minis you linked in your last post?

Nice fig indeed. U already ordered a bunch of figures though, so not so sure if I'll order this one as well... But thanks for the tip, thery're always welcome! Wink

For the names of the fig, I just copypasted my kist of figs I ordered at Paizo.com:

Reaper:
Alaine Female Paladin
Elori Ebonscythe, Evil Female Cleric
Cyanea the Just, Female Cleric
Sora Goldflame, Female Cleric
Isabeau Laroche, Female Paladin
Nicole of the Blade Female Warrior
Majeda Battle Nun
Battle Nun Novitiates (3)
Kristianna & Squire
Majeda, Battle Nun

Non Reaper (www.darkswordminiatures.com/visions_gallery.html):
Female Paladin with Morning Star and Sword
sisters - Start of a new Sisters of Sigmar warband? DSM7404_500

But maybe you'll prefer other figures over mine, so on the reaper mini site, just "search" for:
- Nun
- Sister
- Female cleric
- Female Paladin
- ...
...and you might find other figs you like ; )

A long time has passed since I posted anything (basically due to the fact that I have 'Mordheim-intense' periods as well as 'Mordheimless' periods), but I have been working on the SIsters Of Sigmar Warband above, converting etc., and am now in a near-final stage, before painting (If I ever get to painting them... Neutral ).

Heroes

Henchmen (Or better: 'Henchwomen")

(I might use them like this in a next Mordheim weekend in two weeks)

Ideas for further adding details with GS etc are always welcome! Smile

COOL LOOKING HOLY BABES...rumble of thunder...Blessed Sisters of Sigmar! The hammers, in particular, turned out TERRIFIC; they're of a size that suggests that the Sisters could actually wield them. The Ladies will look LOVELY when all painted up. thumbsup
