LFT on "How to Pin"

So, anyone have a tutorial on how to pin? I have a goblin conversion on a metal shaman that I wanna attach the arm to, yet I know (from exsperiance and lack of spelling) that i will break off the glue/ gs the moment I play with it.

ps O yeah, what tools and pin material do my fellow Mordies use?

You'll need a drill of the apropriate (small) size. For the pins themselves I use parts of paperclips.

And just press and super glue the the pins in place? I just ordered a set of jewelers drill bits, for like $10. I really dont have a drill bit small enough. And do u just use a cordless drill and put the bit in mini vice when u drill?

Or am I over thinking this?

Depends on the material and what you have at hand. Actually I do have a motor drill (for modelling purposes) and I use that usually. When pinning minis on resin bases I just use the metal drill bit (what's it called?) without the "engine" and drill by hand, because it give me more control over what I'm doing, which is necessary when working with rather soft resin bases. For metal minis however, I have to use the motor to get enough power for the drilling.

I just use a 1mm drill from GW, drill a hole into both parts and pin it with some 1mm copper wire or plastic rod (depending on what I am pinning). Easy.

Hmmm. I usually use a pin vice with a 0.5mm drill bit for pinning. Where possible, I glue the two parts together first and, when it's dry, I drill through the two parts and insert a suitable length of superglue-covered pin or paper clip. The outer hole can later covered over with greenstuff. Sometimes, this is not possible. Then, you have to go through the hassle of drilling into the two parts separately and trying to line them up. That's a bit more of a hit-or-miss operation.

i use an electril hobby drill (you should be able to find one for 25 $ or so)
drill 1 mm holes and also use regular paper clips to pin
I use it for metal as well as plastic. For hard stuff I take a fast speed, for soft plastic, a slow speed and clean my drill of plastic 2 or 3 times per hole

lining the holes is not always easy and i try to make no holes in the outer side of the mini
you can use a small ball of putty :
draw a hole in one piece
roll a small ball of putty and press it on the other piece
make the first piece with the hole wet with water and then firmly press it into place where you want to pin it
remove the piece ; the putty should show you exactly where to drill, lined to the hole you already drilled in the other piece

lately my youngest son gave me a mighty fine idea ; over here we have some small cheese balls called baby bell or baby blue or something and they come in a kind of a gummy jacket. The lad kneeded the empty jacket with his bare hands and was able to roll it in a ball of which I tear small parts. (so when kneeded / heated this stuff because like plasticine or so, but it don't stick to much to my drill)
i use this stuff the same way as putty

never found them that small myself
