I've thought about generalizing mordheim. Doing some few customizable warbands to represent almost everything.

And over all adding these features:

-An Exploration table for type: Like Dungeon, Forest, Ruin, City under Siege and dunno some others... Differentiating like lustria or khmeri tables.
-Scenarios quest-style: Adding flavour to scenarios to enhance gameplay experience (lol i'm talking like a game designer XD). More scenario with an objective.

Someone told me that this way it would seem a lot similar to D&D and similar... Dunno but customization and variety is always a bonus, for what i Know. Whaddaya think?

Surprised

I am sorry but i don't fully understand I'm afraid...

Could you maybe be more specific?
What do you mean by "generalising"?
What do you have in mind when you say "quest-style"? I understand the exploration table thing. But it is only useful if you have actually PLAYED in a "Dungeon, Forest, Ruin, City under Siege and dunno some others". Unfortunately I don't have enough gaming boards for such an ambitious idea Smile

Oh and btw: I think it is pretty clear that there should ALWAYS be an objective to the game. Pitched battles in Mordheim are just boring as hell! At least throw in some wyrdstone counters.

On Tom's Boring Mordheim Blog there is a post where I talk about a game we played using Victory Points. I think that is a really great thing, Victory Points. Makes the game so much more interesting!

Oh ok, with "generalizing" I mean adding rules to play this rule-system in every possible fantasy ambientation.

The quest-style scenarios are to replace the unique flavour of the game that will be lost removing wyrdstone and all the background (imho).

The idea was like
To play very customizable warband (some of which out of the whfb world) in a setting of your choice.

For example, a campaign icluding a group of vampire hunters, a powerful vampire, some indiana jones-style treasure hunters and some mercenaries in a transylvanian setting.
All the scenarios wpuld be involved around the vampire count's castle: the treasure hunters trying to steal vampire's treasury, the mercenaries working for a noble to extirpate the vampire with the vampire hunters and the vampire hiding and striking when needed some opponenst.

(Just an example I thought now)

Ok I think I am starting to understand.

And I have good news for you. What you have just described is called a "narrative campaign"! Smile

That's the cool thing about tabletop wargames: you are completely free to tweak and customise as you wish! Want to play it more RPG style? Go ahead! Wink

Yes i know Very Happy There were also some "Mordheim Quest" articles on TC.
But I would like to do some gdrish bands too.

For example a band of human and elves, or something in tolkien-fellowship of the ring style... or even a d&dish band of few heroes, etc. Smile

Yeah I guess you could do an "adventuring party" style warband.

The problem is that the warhammer races are rather xenophobic and like to stick to their kin.

But I guess you could come up with a "mod" for Mordheim that would really focus on RPG play. It would take some heavy modding and playtesting, but it is feasable Smile

Me personally, I used to play pen and paper RPGs when I was younger (mainly DnD3, Vampire: The Masquerade, Vampire: The Dark Ages, Werewolf: The Apocalypse), but my RPGing days are over.
I still enjoy a little RPG game on my PC from time to time but that's it for me. I like the soft-core RPG elements from Mordheim, and frankly I am quite happy it does not attempt a full-scale role-playing emulation.

PS: If you have some time (hard to find these days), I can recommend the following RPGs I thought were quite entertaining on PC:
- Vampire - Bloodlines (Based on the excellent Pen and Paper game by White Wolf. You should have a slight taste for gothic-punk to really appreciate this game. A must play for it's atmosphere. Maybe one of the best in terms of that).

- Fallout 1 and 2 (careful, old game! Shit graphics for today's standards, but arguably the best RPG game ever created. A milestone.)

- Diablo (also old game with shit graphics for nowadays. Some argue that it is not a proper RPG. I don't care, this was my favourite game when I was little, so it deserves a mention!)

- The Fall - Last Days Of Gaia (Fallout-esque game, but with quite nice 3D graphics. Make sure you pick up the "Reloaded" edition.)

- Oblivion (completed it in 190 hours. Took me a year. Gets a bit boring after a while.)

No no you misunderstood, I don't want to make a rpgversion of Mordheim, just use the rule system in another fantasy setting (gwish or not). with very personalized warbands.

Rpg is nice and i played it a lot but it's out of my plans about this generalization Razz

So you are trying to make a version of Mordheim that has no particular setting but can be used anywhere in the Warhammer World? (I Googled it and everything but I still have no idea what "ambientation" means! geek )

There are already alternate setting available for Underground settings, Lustria, the countryside around Mordheim (Empire in Flames), the "modern" Warhammer World (The Nemesis Crown), cianty's Border Town Burning and many others. You could have a look at those as a starting point.

To be honest the "City of the Damned" setting is my favourite thing about Mordheim anyway, so making a generic fantasy setting for the game doesn't appeal to me - but don't let me stop you having fun!
study

There are rumours that GW is going to release a set of Skirmish rules for Warhammer at some point. They might fulfil yourrequirements for "any race" Mordheim warbands.

ambientation = setting, maybe i invented the word? Embarassed Very Happy

BTW I don't want to remove the treasure hunt cause it will result less appealing, nor limit the setting to WHF world, just this. rendeer

So i came out with this idea Very Happy

I'm working on a system that permits to recruit a band with lots of possibilities, interweaving races too. As Our Great Lord Tom said, the whf world is too xenophobic to allow this... nonetheless i'm thinking about it. (to allow play out of the WHF setting ^^)

OT: Lol sorry I've missread in your signature "Ironfag Fleet" And i'm litterally rotfling XDXDXDXDXDXD

BTW i've read somewhere that these shiny new rules will completely substitute Mordheim and delete any chance to see again this game as a GW supported game.

I don't know about that. But let's be honest - how much support is it getting now? Suspect

Exactly. Mordheim is kept alive only by fans (like all specialist games). Period.
I don't understand why such a great game isn't sold in GWs anymore.
I personally would have no problems replacing the LOTR range with Mordheim. But LOTR earns more money than Mordheim does, so Mordheim had to go.

Too bad.

Well, very sad, but actually that's one point I really like about Mordheim:
It's a game that the fans keep interssting. It doesn't need any official improvments, because the fans do this. It shows that this game really has a lot of potential, and if GW doesn't want to earn money with it, not my problem.

Mordheim's alive, and it will always be, as long as people have such great ideas to do such great projects as the Relics setting, the Bordertown setting and so on.

I've thought about it. The prob is that few ppl buy Mord things!

For example I just bought the main box, although i've tried many bands. Why? Cause I love conversions and i use common gw minis instead of ordering original ones...

Maybe if ppl buy original pieces, Mord will be evaluated again by GW! Let's order then Twisted Evil

I promise to do my part!

Ok I wrote some basic rules:

-Each player has 5 hero choices and can choose among a list of hero that I will compile.
-Each hero gives henchmen choices and/or powerful skills to the band. Normally a hero give a 0-2 or 0-3 choices.

EXAMPLES:
Champion: as normal, may recruit 2 men.
Necromancer: as normal, may recruit 4 zombies/wolves. (You could do a 5necromancers band with 20 zombies!)
Ogre Bruiser: can recruit up to 8 gnoblars and uses two heroes slot!
Tamer: can recruit 4 hounds or a big animal.
Goblin Tamer: can recruit 4 spiders/squig or a troll.

I'm going to add also other funny things, just for fun. Like an Orkz with big armor Razz

First game using this method! ^^

Ogre warband: [We overpriced ogres and made em with S5 T5 cause a wardog simply CANNOT be as strong as an ogre... (S4)] [5 hero choices]

- Ogre meneater with sword
- Ogre hunter with javelin, net and ogre mace (gives access to various beasts) + 2 giant spiders [counts as 2 heroes)
- Ogre Bruiser with sword (gives access to 10 gnoblars!) + 8 naked gnoblar (we made em with S2 T2 but free sticky things - as shurikens). [counts as two heroes]

VERSUS

Kislev-like warband [4 hero choices]

-Commander with duelling pistols brace, sword (gives access to 3 men) + 3 men with xbow
-Tamer with whip and sword (gives access to hounds or a big animal) + bear
-Elemental Archmage (gives access to a Little Dragon) + Dragon [we'll prolly revise this character, but I just wanted to play a dragon!]
-Champion with xbow (gives access to 2 men) + nobody

Both bands should be around 800-1000 gold crown cause we used big guys alot Smile

FIRST FEW TURNS: We advance.
The melee stars pretty soon cause our fighters have M6!
The maneater engages the dragon, while the bruiser goes on the bear. The hunter remains backward (being big he cannot charge easily when another ogre is on the spot).
I try to doubleback the bruiser with the tamer but I get charged by lots of gnoblars XD and the tamers dies!
Soon the bear dies too while the hunter is killed by my 4 xbows!
The dragon kills the ogre he's fighting but he's charged by the hunter,a spider and a gnoblar. I send in the cpn' with 2 duelling pistols buts the dragon is killed and she's overhelmed.
The wiz kills tje wandering spider but his brother charges my mage for a inch and kill him Sad.

I remain with 4 xbowers, while he has 8 gnoblars, the meneater with his last wound and a spider.
I try to shot down the ogre, but I fail. The melee comes even too soon and i manage only to kill a vicious gnoblar... (my xbowers had only a dagger!)

We played without rout, Ogres won with a remaining:
-Hunter with his last wound.
-Spider
-7 Gnoblars

1st.. I love this idea of Mordheim and a RPG style. I started working on it but never got far. Some people hated the idea but those who like RPG should have fun with it. Please let me know if I can help.

2nd. I agree with all those you mentioned that Mordheim is only kept allive by us. This is so true. Like many others on this forum who have emailed Andy Hall or SG and see all material will be fan based. Unfortunately, it is out of Andy's hands as he is tasked with other work besides SG.

3rd....I forgot. LOL.
