What else I have been up to

Hola folks! I know I don't update here often enough. But I blame that entirely on my TERRIBLE case of Modeling ADD. The good thing is, I can share some of that with you all here in the Sci Fi area!

To start us off, here is a link to my gallery on DakkaDakka.com. I have so many different projects going at any given time, it's hard to know what I should post for a starter thread. So my gallery is a good jump off point ^_-.

As you can see I have lots of 40k stuff happening, a little bit of fantasy, a good amount of terrain work going, and of course, my Mordheim pieces.

Right now though, it's all about the Marines for me on the sci fi side. I've recently (a few months back) started working on a Sons of Medusa Space Marine army. It's going to be for the Badab War campaign that I'm hoping to play in come the end of the summer.

From here on out, I'll post photos as I complete projects so you guys know I'm still alive and well, just happen to be working on something else for the time being!

Da Bank, The sniper chick is from the now defunct Vor: The Maelstrom line. I picked it up a LONG time ago off chance and painted it last year for one of the Dakka Painting Challenges I ran called 'God Bless the Infantry'. Didn't win that one ^_-...she wasn't 100% complete, so the colors were off and a bit of detailing was missing. Did place well enough though!

Deaf, I've been on Dakka since 2001, it's a great site for just about every game you can think. A really great community. I've recently (last year) joined the ranks of moderators over there as well, and we've enacted a lot of great things since.

Welcome to yet another random model project.

+++Project Telion+++

This one is for the same person I did Chaplain Cassius for. I've been all about helping him get his character models painted up and on the battlefield. And this time around, he really needs this guy x.x...With scouts being miserable excuses compared to what they used to be (at least in my eyes, I'm sure someone out there actually still likes them!), Telion is a much needed boost to the scout squad!

I'm pretty much painting him directly codex colors. Nothing fancy, just copy and paste of the colors, with a little bit of added depth and detailing (but when have you seen a project of mine skimp on that anyways?).

I've got some work done on him. Still a little bit to go yet, but I thought I would share my progress:

The Chaplain is freaking great.

That REALLY is UBERCOOL! I don't tend to be a big fan of 40K, but that piece is JUST SO cool it has me doing a rethink about the whole thing. At the very least, it's given me a little push to get working on a certain "Top Secret" project for another unnamed Forumite [& about time ]. Thanks AND WELL DONE, Amigo!

The Might of Heracles:

AH! A tiny, little spaceship from HELL! Nice paint job. BFG is one of those games that I've heard folks play but I've never seen. The people involved seem to be a secret underground cult movement of sinister aspect [like the Masons ]. I like the star effect on the base. WELL DONE, Amigo!

BTW I signed on at Dakka; I hope you don't mind that I mentioned your name as the source of their new found pest. You may catch flack over this if I start posting.

Coming along slowly. But at least there is some progress!

Mag, it's really all about how you approach the piece. It definitely takes a lot more care depending on the piece. Paint coverage is a bit less of an issue, but covering everything is more of an issue! If you haven't worked with white primer much, I higghly suggest giving it a try for a few random projects ^_^.

Building my portfolio I guess! I'm considering taking on more commission work in the future. We'll see how that pans out.

VERY NICE SPACE NAZI! The vibrant blue & the scarlet cloak lining are very attractive; using contrasting colors adds a LOT of interest to the piece. All in all one of the BEST Ultramarines I've ever seen. VERY WELL DONE!

Commission work is a decent way to support your own projects, AND doing up minis that you might otherwise not have done broadens your experience & develops a higher level of self discipline, both valuable assets. The negative side is it doesn't really pay all that well & those things you want to do within the craft never seem to happen. C'est la vie, eh?!

One more stage of highlight I think and maybe a little bit of orange/brown wash for some color variation. Then camo stripping goes on.

OH, I LIKE THAT! That's a VERY cool color choice, a far cry from the normal GW Shoot-Me-I'm-Stupid Glaring Red or Blazing Blue. WELL DONE!
