| Hey guys! I just got a chance to test the brand new Fallout 3. I used to be a big fan of the original game (Fallout 1) so I was pretty excited to test it. I don't have any time to play it right now, but I got a first impression and it was a very good one. Here are a few screens from my PC. Graphics are on "Low" since I do not have a very powerful machine. Since the "Fallout" Licence was bought by Bethesda, a little bit of the "Oblivion" feel can also be found in Fallout 3, however it is well integrated and the game has a great mood. Bethesda managed to essentially catch the mood and (as far as I can see) some of the dark humour from the original(s). The combat system is what struck me most: they actually managed to integrate a sort of "round based" combat system in a FPS/3rd personv view game. Pretty original. And yet it remains optional: you can play the game only in FPS - with real time combat and everything - but you can also switch to 3rd person. In both cases you can activate the "VATS" (Vault Tech Assisted Targetting System) if you want when enemies are near. This allows you to pause the game and choose "hit zones" on your opponent where you want to strike (how often you may do so is determined by the amount of Action Points you have). You can then "validate" your choice by pressing "E" and lean back to watch a very cool fight cinematic. I thought it was very immersive. Anyway, I was wondering if any of you have also had a chance to take a look at Fallout 3, and if so, what your impressions were. To all the others I can really recommend the game... so far _________________ | |

| I am so hooked on this game!
I thought Fallout 2 was the best RPG i'd ever played, but i never tried the first, maybe i will now that Fallout 1,2 and Tactics are available for 5.99 each...
Yeah there are some annoying holdovers from Oblivion (but another game i loved) like 1 hour of sleeping heals all wounds and leveling up is way to fast but i am enjoyng it very much.
The best thingabout fallout 3, besides how they nailed the atmosphere, is how interesting the dialogue and quests are. The deep quests with many ways to solve are impressive given that they actually had to record all those lines of dialogue.

And of course because it is the first of the series. But I do agree that the Fallout series is likely the best rpg series ever made. A rich setting, dark humour, multiple quest solving possibilities... - Pathfinder Dubstyles wrote:

Agree. - Pathfinder Dubstyles wrote:

And again. The facial expressions, the voice acting... 10/10. The problem I had with Fallout 3 was that I made the mistake of bringing it along to a friend's house, and said friend has a killer PC. We played for an hour or so on "ultra high" quality settings (we are talking 1680x1200 @15xAA and full shader details)... when I came home, I turned on my comp and uninstalled the game. I'll wait until I get a better PC (in approximately 100 years) that does the game justice... 800x600 @ 2xAA just doesn't look that good anymore _________________

| I've always liked F1 the best.. untill i got fallout 3... i'm playing it on the box and i'm sold... i have 40+ ingame hours already and i don't think i'm even halfways through - there's SOOOO much stuff to do! They've added Karma - which gives you opportunities to go different ways and unluck different storylines depending on your choices on who you help and how you help them. The best thing about fallout which they've kept is that you can play pretty much whatever character you want - stealthy ninja guy, dumb brute soldier, scientist, smoothtalker - and still have a brilliant game! haha i'm starting to sound like a commercial, but seriously... BUY THIS GAME!!!!! | |

| I loved Fallout 1 - one of my fav games ever. Fallout 2 was good, but not as much as 1. Unfortunately, I'm not that into FPS games so I don't see myself picking the latest one up for the PS3. | |

| Eth, i feel the exact same way! But i got it and i haven't regretted it a single second.. you can view it in 3rd person and stick with the vats - then it's almost the good old fallout | |

| Just wanted to chime in, I consider playing Fallout and Fallout 2 to be one of the high points of my childhood. I was 13 in 1997 but wasn't exposed to Fallout until 1998 when a friend of mine told me about how addicted he became to the storyline in just a single day. The next day he told me he could play it without the disk if he did a humongous installation on his computer (boy where did those days go). I took Fallout home and its been in my life ever since.
As soon as Fallout 2 came out, or as soon as my brothers and I could raise the cash and find a copy, I brought Fallout 2 home as well. Fallout 2 wasn't quite as good as the first, but Black Isle damn sure did try! I've played both games through at least a dozen times, and at least once a year I find myself reinstalling the Fallout 1 or 2 and having another playthrough.
I was 17 when Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel came out. I bought Tactics the first day is was available. It wasn't Fallout, but I knew that going into Tactics. Interplay (14 degrees East?) at least was honest enough to say it wasn't a Fallout sequel but was "side cannon" to raise capital four Fallout 3 while appealing to the masses. I consider Fallout Tactics to be a "quality game" if not really Fallout. At least I knew ahead of time what the game wasn't going to be.
When I was in undergrad I picked up Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel for 5 dollars at a video game store. Words don't sufficient convey how bad this game is. The only adjective that comes to mind is abortion. I doubt this paragraph requires further qualifiers.
I haven't touched Fallout 3, and I don't plan to. Nothing against Bethesda, I have never played any of their games and I'm hardly a NMA dude, but I refuse to denigrate my childhood anymore. While it's progeny has left something to be desired, Fallout is an iconic game that remains unsullied by the masses of the lowest common denominator that is today's RPGs.
Regards, Eric | |

| Yes this is thread necromancy. Why ? I played Fallout end of 2008 lots of time on my Ps 3 and of course finished the main plot. meanwhile i played a lot of New Vegas and started Fallout3 again three weeks ago.. This game is sooo awesome. I hope Fallout 4 will be finished soon. I am also a Fallout addict from the first hour. I loved part one and two. Everytime i am a Brotherhood of Steel member or sympathisant. Also this time ,but this time i played the hard and strong melee guy with explosive and big gun support. It also works. Normally i have high speech values, not this time, this time my brutal fist answers all questions I love his game, as much as four years ago | |

| THANK GOODNESS it was you, MoM! While there is nothing wrong with Thread0mancy, quite a few times it's been a Bot that has done the resurrection routine. That aside Fallout must be a pretty cool game; re, there are a fair number of Guys over on L.A.F. that do it as a miniatures game. Like movie sequels, this is a form of popularity measurement...maybe. | |

| I really enjoyed Fallout, too bad there are some compatibility issues with Windows 7, and even hours of following some supposed solutions didn't change the fact that it freezes all the time. New Vegas is cool, too, but I really wanted to check out the old one again | |

I would be very interested to just look on the game they are playing. Sorry I do that all the time. L.A.F. is Lead Adventure Forum: http://www.lead-adventure.de/index.phpThe Fallout stuff would be in Future Adventures. Enter Fallout in the search thingy & it will give you a list of threads. There's a sticky I believe that deals just with Fallout minis.
