My Mordheim terrain - under construction!

Hi there,

Throughout the last twenty years or so I've mostly hung out in the bars and taverns around Mordheim, mostly avoiding that terrifying place due to trivial matters such as studies, work, children and more work. Recently, however, I got pushed back into the good old fantasy world as we started playing Kings of War (I was absolutely shocked to learn that Games Workshop had killed off the wonderful Old World. What the hell is going on!), and as I suggested picking up KoW: Vanguard, my friend rather thought that we should start playing Mordheim again. What a ridiculous notion! Did he have any idea how much new terrain that would require?

Well, anyway, I couldn't quite let that thought die, and after flipping through my old Mordheim book and getting sucked into that terrific universe, I realized I had my work cut out for me. I had to start creating that damn terrain - there was no way around it.

Having found this forum, I thought I'd post some pictures of how it's coming so far:

So far I've spent two cans of black spray paint. It's more tedious than I remember!

...and a hell of a lot of drybrushing balsa wood! But it's coming... I just need to find a color for the bases that more or less match the battle mat I'll be using.

Wow, I really like the dynamic shape u got in some buildings! They really seem almost to collapse! (hope they don't). can't wait to see them painted! keep posting

Messy and chaotic and fantastic. Looks like it'll be hella fun to play on!

Yeah, they've mostly been knocked together without any planning whatsoever. I just tried to make the constructions as twisted as possible to make an impression that whatever was left of the building could collapse at any moment. It's been plastered with Polyfilla and reinforced with sticks of wood, though, so it's a lot more steady than it looks.

Wowee! That's some really impressive work there, both on the tall twisty buildings, & the small scatter terrain, like the balsa-wood cart, & the gallows that I've been meaning to build for a while... Anyway, it's all really cool, & definitely worth the tedious effort. Great work!

Those are a FINELY crafted, VERY IMAGINATIVE collection of ruins. They are the stuff of inspiration. OUTSTANDING WORK!

Really shitty weather in Copenhagen, so not many opportunities to getting the last two buildings spray painted black in the near future. Although, actually, a considerable part of my terrain has survived showers while drying, on days that were promised to be sunny all day. Which is a miracle. But who doesn't want a water resistant wargaming board!

Looking great! Balsa is very fun to work with.

I'm mostly done with all my terrain now - the buildings have been painted, the bases finished, and I've scattered loose documents and posters all over the place. I'm about to glue some dark green moss to the constructions to give it a slightly more organic and overgrown look. I still haven't played my first game on the terrain yet; I need to assemble and paint a warband, and I also need to find a way to unfold my 4'x4' battle mat since our dining table is just too small! But here are a few pictures of what it all looks like now:

OUTSTANDING! The pieces painted up BEAUTIFULLY. The colors are brilliant. VERY WELL DONE!

I'm very excited about how this terrain project has turned out, and I can't wait to start exploring the ruins. I will of course post more pictures of the entire battlefield once it's completely done.

Those really look nice with the paint on them. Wonderful work on the wood. The moss and the posters add that layer of detail, that makes the pieces special.

Wow, I really do love ur painted pices. The range of coulours on that house, from brown to yellow over some red, at the walls. Some green greenerey, some grey-blueish at the roof, and really nice wood brown. U did a quite nice job at highlighting and drybrushing. From allmost black to white, at the stone walls. Really nice, it give some depth.
