| Thanks everyone! DeafNala, they're just cereal box card, cut out individually then glued down in semi-regular patterns. More progress, I've finally finished painting the first piece of scenery - only hundreds more to go. The stonework was airbrushed a dark grey over a black undercoat, then a selection of washes were applied to individual blocks - green, brown and black work best but there are also some blue and yellow(ish) washed blocks in there too. After that, the joints were washed in black to increase the contrast, then a lighter grey was drybrushed over the top to tie everything together. The water is several layers of gloss varnish with a little brown/blue/green wash mixed in. The brass started with a basecoat of 'Brazen Brass', followed by successive washes of dark brown, green and blue (sensing a theme here?) and then a selective wash of pastel turquoise for the verdigris. After this it was drybrushed with brass again to increase the contrast a little, then washed once again with dark brown...lots of steps but it gives a nice aged look. Next up, perhaps the wall sections I made before, unless I decide to finally finish the groundskeeper's house. Who knows? | |

| The Old Blood Bowl Guy looks TERRIFIC as a statue...of course, he looked pretty good as a player as well. VERY NICELY DONE! - DarkLordDaniel wrote:

...yes I know what they are. What I meant was they improve the appearance of the wall.

I am indeed, albeit slowly. It's been a hectic...well, year I guess. I had my finals in March and following those my individual project/dissertation. In July, I finished my degree and started a new job. Since then I've been slowly easing back into modelling (alongside other things) and I have made a little progress. The main progress is that I've finally finished the first house - only 15 months after starting! At this rate my great-grandchildren will have a lovely Mordheim board to play on. No full pictures yet, so you'll have to do with these teasers until I have the opportunity to take more.

It's a brilliant technique, hats off to Theomar for alerting me to it. Time for some proper pictures: Frontal elevation. Side elevation. Rear elevation. Other side elevation. First floor plan view, complete with rather dingy bed. Ground floor plan view, with small built in table. I'll add other furniture too in future, but for now it's rather bare. Front door with Hermann for scale. View through the front door. Close up of stonework. The variation in colour is all done with different washes. Water drips are a mixture of gloss varnish and dark green/brown wash, built up over several layers. Lead flashing around the chimney. Close up of front woodwork. Hermann goes looking for Old Jakub, who's nowhere to be found. The loaf of bread cooling on the table suggests that he's not been gone long... Next building should be some more things for the sword school, but I'm getting a hankering to build a massive coaching inn, so we'll see.

| Thank you both. The streaking is incredibly easy to do, it's just dark green wash flicked down from the timbers and then gloss varnished for the wet look. | |

| Gorgeous brush work. I love the color choices and technique.
Hate the Hirst Arts blocks, but to each his own.

Hate the Hirst Arts blocks, but to each his own. I do get very tired of doing the casting, but I love the assembly. They can be quite rigid, and if I were making single purpose boards like Theomar does I'd go down the foam route, but they're perfect for making modular constructions. I've not made much progress on Mordheim specific stuff in the last few months, but I've started experimenting with 3D printing for details: These are sparring dummies by dutchmogul on thingiverse. They've had very little prep, only some flash trimming. The yellow one was printed standing up, the blue lying down in two pieces. I've also been working on a Goblin-themed Blood Bowl pitch as a gift, with dugouts made from Hirst Arts blocks and a normal painted sand pitch. The whole thing fits in a custom (badly made) wooden case. WiP photos: Of course, this is a goblin board so most of the cracks and errors are intentional. Finished shots below. The scatter template is also from thingiverse, by sirbats.

| Crikey, that is rather nice. A very impressive pitch, & I'm sure the recipient will be immensely pleased with it -- it's a great gift! & it is handy with Goblins that even accidents & errors can be blamed on goblin craftsmanship... | |
