Hello all.

Whenever I've hired an ogre bodyguard I have always counted its rating as (25+20+experience), with the 20 being the Large Creature tax. I'm wondering, though, that perhaps that's not accurate? It seems to me that the 20 added rating for big things is instead of the usual 5 for ordinary warband members, but hired swords don't use that. Or do they?

For some examples:

Is a pit fighter worth either A) 22 (rating) + experience or B) 5 (warband member) + 22 + experience?
And an ogre either A) 25 + experience or B) 20 + 25 + experience?

Thanks in advance!

Mordheim Rule Book, 2005 wrote:
Hired Swords do not count towards the maximum
number of warriors or Heroes a warband may have on
its roster and don’t affect your income from selling
wyrdstone.

Rating: A Pit Fighter increases the warband’s rating
by +22 points, plus 1 point for each Experience point
he has

Rating: An Ogre Bodyguard increases the warband’s
rating by +25 points, plus 1 point for each
Experience point he has.

So the Pit Fighter is A.

The Ogre is A.

A is the answer.

Reading the rules again that's the conclusion I'm coming to now as well. It does appear a bit strange that an ogre is worth only 3 more rating than a pit fighter, although I suppose the hire fee and upkeep is there to take care of that. Thanks, VK!

You are welcome. As with many of Games Workshop's rules, I think your question could have been answered more clearly by the rules. However, the wording of the Hired Sword listing concerning warband rating seems pretty succinct.
