| I'll introduce myself to begin with. I've been playing warhammer/40k for some years and Mordheim for a year or so, I also play historical games, napoleonics mainly. Mordheim never called my eye until a friend proposed it as an alternative to the lustria campaign for warhammer. It seemed an excellent idea, with the exploration and the cities of gold rules, and soon me and some friends played a sucession of games wich saw the death and impoverishment of most of my mariemburgers to the glee of my oponents (until I switched sides to the lizardmen)! Some time ago, I was browsing the general's compendium when I stumbled upon the ships section and I decided to build at least four ships for games of warhammer/mordheim. I've begun by the possibly most tiresome ships, the wooden ones. first wipsIn two days I've made some progress, but a lot stil remains to do, next weekend I'll finish and paint them hopefully. I picked some nice ideas around this blog, mixing them with the tips from the general's compendium. In the nebulous future I'll begin a campaign with the sartosa rules wich will be the continuation of our lustrian campaign. I've thought to add the general's compendium rules to play with a medium ship per warband. Have some pics Before and after

| Welcome to the forum!
Love ships and Mordheim, I do. Our group uses ships built for the General's Compendium rules too, although we use small ships. Medium ships are definitely a nice size for fighting over, but our small ships were made for 20 crew models and that's the usual size of a Mordheim warband (and we had more of the small size ship.)
We have been using the Warhammer Ahoy! rules since we moved from Warhammer battles to Mordheim battles. I can't remember the General's Compendium rules now, but Warhammer Ahoy! was less fiddly (but ships could catch fire from Critical Hits) so we've been using them since '09 or so when Sartosa came out. The Ahoy! rules are also free online which makes it easier to add new players.
Your ship has great potential, but I would make it less high in the water. Several of our ships are too high in the water (yours looks similar), and it causes some annoyance. It does help if you standardize the ship construction rather than having all the players build their own versions. Followed the link to your blog. Well you are mostly done I see... Ah well, they are coming along nicely.

| I probably should have built them lower but: 1- I had to havespace enough for 2 gun decks on one ship, 2- that's how the ships were made back in the general's compendium.
Could you pass me the warhammer ahoy ! rules von kurst? i 've tried to find them without any luck. Your ships were an undoubtely inspiration, specially the idea of making simple planking with fef stripes.
I've talked today with my father and he advised me to apply wood varnish to the balsa wood instead of paint so that's how the decks will be painted.

| Well, the warhammer ahoy ruules seem fine, but since they don't include points for guns/ships and such and the general's compendium has a better presentation I think that we'll use those, thanks anyway! I can alwas adapt the rule of raked fire however!

| me hearties! After playing assassins creed black flag today for the first time I was inspired and had to do some work on the ships! http://noigrimintothemaelstorm.blogspot.com.es/2015/03/ships-wips-2.htmlI painted the hulls, gunports and added the first layer to the respirators, the white in the left ship will be yellow someday (Aubrey style). The base of the hulls is finished, lots of work ahead! | |
